Jimbo was going to LSU

I got to it later. I chose to respond anyway. Repetition drives a point home better.

Jimbo was never going to LSU.

It would be a pretty big step down and Baton Rouge is pretty darn terrible.

If he goes we'll find another...he isn't the ONLY coach on planet earth. Good grief. But to say, LSU isn't worthy of Jimbo's time is silly.

Per capita, the state of Louisiana produces more college football players than any other state in the country. Many of those players are incredibly talented. Given that LSU is the only major school in the entire state, all those top players want to go to LSU. Toss in the fact that the SEC recently expanded to Texas, giving LSU a direct entree into the fertile East Texas recruiting market and we're talking about a job so good even the grass tastes good.

It's a testament to Nick Saban that he did such a good job raising LSU from the dead that even a decade after his departure from the school, LSU has been good for so long that most people don't even remember the disastrous 1980s and 1990s. In college football, all triumph is cyclical. ~2014 Fox Sports

This is not to say FSU isn't also a great program (it comes in at #12 on Fox Sport's List), but Noles need to quit acting like its Samford who's knocking on Jimbo's door.

Fortunately, though, I think Jimbo is sincere when he says he's happy at FSU.

A FSU fan polluting a smack talk thread with actual facts?

I am not sure my heart can stand the excitement.

Plus LSU is in the SEC. And for all the snark from FSU fans denigrating the SEC, in general, it is better to be a coach in the SEC than in the ACC.

Fortunately, though, I think Jimbo is sincere when he says he's happy at FSU.

I think he looked at the opportunity, was glad to be considered, and decided to stay. For the reasons you articulate, plus maybe some of the personal reasons that Ghost presented. Plus, his road to the playoffs is a LOT easier in the ACC. Plus he knows it gives him a better negotiating position with FSU, now that both parties know he was being courted and probably will be courted in the future.

In the same FOX Sports article it referred to both FSU and Clemson as "SEC-type" schools. I don't recall Kentucky being called an "ACC-type" school, so what you say has merit.

I'll be right back...

I think FSU and Clemson are more typical of SEC programs than Vandy. And maybe UK. But that was not my point. My point is that, IN GENERAL, it is better to be a coach at an SEC program than to be a coach at an ACC program.

Per FSU AD:

Speaking during Monday's Chick-fil-A Bowl presser, Florida State athletic director Stan Wilcox wanted to make it clear that Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher did not have contact with LSU during the week leading up to the Tigers' season-finale, which many thought would be the final game for Les Miles.

Wilcox says there was never a connection between Fisher and LSU's administration, despite various reports.

Who knows what's true, but my simple point is:

A. It wouldn't be foolish for Jimbo to look into it.
B. Jimbo appears to be happy at FSU

meH.

There was too much smoke out there for there not to have been some contact. The very fact that FSU is rushing around trying to deny a non-deniable assertion give credence to that point of view.

LSU is a good job....until your admin and boosters sh#t the bed like a 2 year old in a new coaching hire. Saban did them so wrong I guess they felt they could handle it however they wanted without consequence?!

"If this pass against Texas A&M is incomplete we are firing Les.....completion for 3 yards....we're keeping Les". Idiots.

Mets - you should look into the Miles non-firing a little more before opining. Maybe go read some of the pieces from the writers out of Baton Rouge. Not quite as accurate as fsu message boards, I'm sure, but they are around the LSU Athletics Office and might actually know something.

I think that is a very fair criticism of LSU and how they handled the Miles issue

The smoke was all coming from tigerdroppings.com, no seriously that's the name.

It was an echo chamber of "insiders who know a guy" that local media picked up.

I don't believe there was any official contact from LSU. There was probably some boosters involved talking with Sexton ala Tubberville/Petrino.

The supposed insider said a plane with Jimbo, the strength coach and the DC was landing on the Monday after the UF game and that he had seen the contracts. That board ate it up. It was funny.

Who needs FSU boards? I have an entire side of the family from Louisiana. I deer hunt with 2 Tiger boosters. LSU stepped all over it.

Don't blame someone else because you fell for it hook line and sinker. Just because you read something on the Internet doesn't mean it's true.

Still nothing from Jimbo, huh?

Irony... Is that you???

Actually it's not. But you can believe whatever you want, even false information coming out of LSU. You can also believe they were "negotiating" with Jimbo. Hell, let's just say LSU is going to let Miles retire after next year and they already have Jimbo locked in. There's a nice one. Take that and spread it over the net.

Of course they stepped in. They are a broke dick state and a broke dick flagship University. I mentioned that as reasoning why I had a hard time believing the buyout would ever occur while all this talk was going on. The Admin staff, in an effort to save face, gave the ole "we decided at the 2:27 mark of the 3rd quarter to retain Coach Les." Yeah, right.

Whatever you need to believe to help you sleep better at night, hardliner

I find it funny that you believe that Jimbo was involved in serious negotiations along with almost all of his staff during the meat of the season with no one finding out anything except some random guys on an LSU board. El Oh El.

At the most some "big money boosters" tried to stage a coup and it blew up on them once the bill came due.

Serious negotiations? Who asserted that?

The agents for LSU contacted Jimbo's agent. Quiet inquiries were made. That is really all I am asserting.

Good for Jimbo. He gets leverage with FSU. And he gets the cache for being a hot commodity.

To think there was absolutely nothing there is delusionole. jimbo spent a lot of time in Baton Rouge, certainly has a lot of friends and ties to the school and area.

Jimbo on the "LSU rumors":

“I’m happy where I’m at,” Fisher said. “I’m very happy here. I’ve got a great job. I love this place. It is a great place and it has been very good to me. Hopefully I will end up being very good to it.” Nov 26
This is an old quote, pre-Jimbo and LSU engaged in negotiations assertions made by LSU. He has not commented on those assertions, to my knowledge. Your writers and Wilcox have but not the man himself.

"Jimbo Fisher was asked about coaching rumors on his radio show Wednesday and said he’s “very happy” at Florida State."

A caller wondered what it would take for Fisher to leave Florida State after reports started circulating Monday that LSU would come after the Seminoles coach if Les Miles is fired.

“I’m happy where I’m at,” he said. “I’m very happy here. I’ve got a great job.

“I love this place. It is a great place and it has been very good to me. Hopefully I will end up being very good to it.”

The caller said he hoped Fisher would stay at FSU until he’s about 85 years old.

Fisher laughed and said, “I’m good with that, too.”

What is it you need him to publically say and why does it matter?

Jimbo says he's happy. That doesn't mean he's dumb.

LSU/FSU say there were no "official" negotiations. Why is that a lie?

Jimbo's agent was likely looking out for his client's best interest and sought out what LSU's "unofficial" offer would be "if" they were to rid themselves of Les. Oh, and let's not forget that LSU's handling of Miles was Bush-league.

Heck, we're so far into this I can't even remember what the argument was.

Good for him.But no denial that he or his agent were in contact with LSU

Why would I (or anyone deny it)? Why does it matter? Who cares if he did or didn't? It's a business and a person should ALWAYS look into what serves them and their family's best interest. If Jimbo gets a better opportunity at another program, good for him. That doesn't make him any less dedicated to the job he's currently in (if the opposite is what's being insinuated).

Heck, I was one month from retirement from the Air Force, had another job in hand, and worked hard right up to my last day. I often heard the phrase, "Dude, why do you care? Aren't you retiring soon?"

I guess I just don't get what this whole thread is even about. What am I missing?
