Robbie Andreu, beat writer for the Gainesville Sun, tweeted that deal is not signed. Confirmed that UAA people flew to new Hampshire & met with him, but returned without Kelly or a signed contract. he told them he wants to talk to UCLA before making a decision. Seems like some people have gotten the cart before the horse.

    The Sun has confirmed that six UAA members flew to New Hampshire on Sunday to meet with Chip Kelly. The UAA members are returning to Florida without Kelly tonight.

I wish I could dislike my post, too, Sad. I just passed along what I read. And while Paco has a good track record and numbers seems to be confident as well, Robbie Andreu is a paid sports reporter with a lot of inside connections. I don't think he would intentionally report false information. And maybe Kelly will still sign with UF. But with UCLA firing Mora and expressing immediate interest, who can blame the guy for at least wanting to hear what they have to offer? But comparing the quality of life in Gainesville to L.A. as well as the potential of the football programs, I can't imagine choosing UCLA over UF.

A dude on Reddit went to the Ocala airport and interviewed Stricklin on Periscope as he got off the plane and was leaving the airport lol. It looks like both Stricklin and Fuchs were on the flight, but no Chip.

Stricklin said there were "productive conversations" and there's "a lot of interest in the job."

It was surreal to watch.
 
and now even more hilariously, andreu is back tracking and clearly making it apparent he's lying and has no "source" about his "statement".. catching flack from hell over it right now from our fanbase on twitter...
 
I bet Kelly has signed and they are just waiting to sign it themselves to announce it and make it official. The President wouldn't be on that plane if it wasn't already a done deal.
 
The wild card in all this is that David Dunn, Chip's agent, is an alum of UCLA and apparently Chip cannot sign any paper without his agent there in person with him. His agent was at the Cowboys game tonight.
 
Chip probably knows beating Clay Helton minus Sam Darnold is easier than beating Georgia, LSU, Tennessee (if they get a decent coach) FSU and then oh yeah Saban just to get to the playoff.

Well they're doing a very good job at making it look otherwise.
 
Remember the line from Stefan Djorjovic, played by Tom Cruise, in the movie "All the Right Moves?"

He yells at Coach Nickerson, played by Hayden Fox.

"You are not god, you are just a High School football coach!"

Similarly, this is just a football coach hiring...what drama. And yes in terms of big time college football and university profile, it matters, but man oh man the panties.

Just a football coach hiring? Wtf are you talking about? Like Meyer and Saban were just football coach hirings? For a fan, it’s the difference between living in the top 5, competing for SEC and national titles and being locked in every Saturday beer and barbecue in hand or else having weekends like the last one when I forgot we were playing until I saw the score scroll across the screen. As our last two hires have shown, who you hire is the whole deal.
 
So we were used for leverage..it happens.

It isn’t a good look for us going after our #2-#5 pick as coach.

I still think he is coming here but if somehow he didn't this is a screw up of epic proportions with the UF President being on that flight.

I have this same feeling. UCLA is historically way behind in facilities, but they just opened a $70m football facility that looks like a spa resort. They’re also historically cheap. People thought they wouldn’t pay the buyout to fire Mora.

Yeah. He might have leveraged Mora out of his job. If that’s the case and Kelly wanted to go west the whole time, that’s not really on Stricklin.

As a FSU fan I am here lurking the get updated info on the coaching situation.


I can tell you there is one coach that scares me more than the rest and that is Chip Kelly. Obviously there is no guarantee home run these days but he is very close to being considered one. As much as I don’t want him at UF, it will be fun to see him back in college. His offense isn’t exactly unique anymore and he did fizzle out in the NFL, but I think his offense works the best when there is a mismatch in talent. In College it can be extremely effective.


I also would not overthink him not signing last night. He and his agent would have been stupid to sign last night. UCLA fires their coach in an obvious attempt to go after Chip Kelly. He would have been stupid to sign and not use this to his advantage to get the sweetest deal possible from UF or any other school that is after him.
