Hydrogen

As I’m looking around, Many countries around the world are starting to make big investments into hydrogen.

Takes more energy to make hydrogen out of water than the energy one gets from its combustion. However, a process that uses low potential renewables to separate and generate high potential H, does have some merit for vehicles

Sounds like another immature 'green' technology that isn't ready for market, and that does more harm than good.

Warmists put their politics above saving the planet. Shall we visit a landfill where those solar panels and batteries are seeping chemicals into the soil?

Yes. Lets.

Morgan Andreae, Cummins executive director – technology and planning, pointed to several benefits offered by fuel-cell-electric vehicles.

“Hydrogen is the lightest element. So from an energy density perspective you get more energy per kilogram stored with hydrogen than anything else,” he said. “That enables longer range.”

Are you calling me a dummy for looking at hydrogen? Why don’t you read the articles before name calling. I’m not going to call you a dummy.
I report, you decide.

That said, one of these days maybe you will understand what all this is really about.

Hint: the rich aren’t worried about your trees, because contrary to liberal belief, money doesn’t grow on them.

But the Hyzon CEO also stressed that hydrogen can support the ideals of energy independence. It can be generated using everything from sewage to grass clippings and landfill gases. “You can get hydrogen out of anything.”

In contrast, Knight said that today’s electric grid and battery supplies will both limit the pace of broader battery-electric vehicle rollouts. “The grid implications are absolutely untenable,” he said.

Built for the worst case scenario
Hydrogen will be particularly helpful for fleets that have varied ranges, said George Rubin, CEO of Vancouver-based Loop Energy, which produces hydrogen fuel cells for commercial applications.

Typical trips may be addressed within the range of a battery-electric truck, but services need to be provided on the longest-possible routes.

“The more energy you put into your vehicle, the more you’re going to see the difference between a pure battery solution and a fuel cell solution,” Rubin said.

The options can extend beyond the trucks themselves. Mobile generating sets powered by hydrogen fuel cells could deliver electric power to construction sites that don’t have access to established electrical grids, he said.

“I don’t think we should necessarily think about batteries versus hydrogen. It is about electrification. Hydrogen trucks have batteries in them,” Rubin noted.

“It’s about finding the right balance that ultimately gives the fleet operator what you need to do with diesel, but without the pollution.”

Look, if hydrogen was the solution we'd see tons of startup companies investing in new hydrogen solutions. But there isn't a lot, not at this point. It's not ready for prime time. A quick 5 second search provides a variety of reasons.

What are the disadvantages of hydrogen energy?

Image result for why is hydrogen energy not used

Some of the disadvantages of hydrogen energy include:
  • Hydrogen Energy is Expensive. ...
  • Storage Complications. ...
  • It's Not the Safest Source of Energy. ...
  • Tricky to Move Around. ...
  • It is Dependent on Fossil fuels. ...
  • Hydrogen Energy Cannot Sustain the Population.

Here is a web link that discusses it. Full of junk advertising and painful to navigate, but info is here.

I’m reporting and you are being negative without adding any frame of reference to the topic of hydrogen, which appears to be super abundant and more powerful and lighter than diesel

We are starting to see start up hydrogen companies

Plug power
Fcel energy
Ballard power
Sun hydrogen
Bloom energy
Hyzon
Nikola
And others all here in the 🇺🇸

Well, they say that the battery from electric cars only last for "x" number of years, then it needs to be replaced and disposed of and the old batteries are considered toxic. Hydrogen cars are still an electric car, you are just using hydrogen to generate the electricity to power the engine. So, you still have a battery, although I would assume that the battery is probably smaller than a tradtional electric car and you also have a fuel cell. How long do the fuel cell last? Are old fuel cells toxic? They say storage of hydrogen is expesnive and transportation is difficult, so building the infra structure to support hydrogen cars will cost a fortune.

It's a boondoggle. Surprised @Kingseve1 fell for it. Then again he also voted for Hiden so nevermind.

I will stick with fossil fuels thanks
Internal combustion has been around since the first cave man rubbed two sticks together for fire. I suspect it will still be in play when the last human living turns out the lights for the final time.

Are these the same “many countries” that depend on other countries for oil?

I think that I'm starting to get a clue on this....

Tell me Kingfaux, which segment of H fuel are you and/or your's making money from, or hoping to?

Oh FFS!!! Put up or shut up! It either works now or it doesn't. The free world market knows what's real and bullshit. Prove this wrong.

I do own the H stocks, because I believe in them. I’m a lowly realtor, with zero connections to H. The H movement has never been stronger, but it likely has a long way to go without big money support.

I hope like hell you aren't heavily invested in PLUG. My wife bought some of that, she deserves a black eye for that. 🤣

I bought all of the H stocks, but heaviest in PLUG.

Your wife sounds like a smart girl. You’re a lucky gator
Ummm.........no. That stock is down about 45% since acquisition. Not my pick, but I own it. I own my mistakes. Now our oil stocks have tripled or better, but not the bell weathers. No BP or bullshit like that. DVN, SU, and MUR.

Manchin wants H. But, doesn’t want the build back better
Hydrogen could only work on a large scale basis IF the government spent billions and billions and built the infrastructure first. That is one of Biden's and Left's biggest mistake with the Green New Deal and getting rid of fossil fuels, they need to improve the solar/electric technology and build the infrastructure first. They haven't.

100% agreed. Need to dumb down the stimulus bill, to only include job promoting infrastructure jobs and primarily Hydrogen production and infrastructure

I mean.....seriously, you climate change-cultists are the stuff SNL is made of. The Green Nickelodeon Slime Deal cannot and will not work. For all the effort it takes to harness hydrogen into useful energy, you could just as well put into coal and regular natural gas and get more bang for your investment bucks. AOC has succeeded big-time inflicting you all with climate change-mass formation psychosis. You're all just plain zombies already.

Oh, I agree with you. I am totally against the green new deal. But Kingseve1 seems to be all in on hydrogen. Trying to just point out the obvious, before the Government trys to force that crap down our throats, they would need to invest billions and billions.

I’m all in H at this point, or until it’s been proven to work or not. From, what I read it does work, just not enough believers/money behind it.

I’m tired of energy reliance on Saudi and Russia. I think it would be nice to find something else that’s abundantly available here in the us and a

What? Why not be all-in on cornbread as an alternative to fossil fuels?

Hey you want to believe and more power to you. If you end up being right about hydrogen one day it would help us all.
