That program might be done. I predicted in Sad’s thread this would be a one score game and we beat them by 31. This with a QB starting his first game since middle school and as much as 5 defensive starters out of the game for us. They scored 3 points. Damn they have no pride got beat up from the first snap.

Just for the smell of it,,, UF 41 - 23 Tennis-sea :D

There isn't a huge talent gap between the teams, either. In fact, Tennessee has the more talented roster according to the 247Composite Team Talent rankings, which takes into account the recruiting rankings of the current players on the roster. (doesn't take into account the injury lists for either team) >>> So much for the team rankings, just as I've said. iG

So maybe it will depend on coaching.... ;)

UF 41 - 23 Tn -- (-18) prediction

UF 34 - 3 Tn -- (-31) outcome

The Gators scored just 7 pts less than my guess, while the rubber dollies sucked on their big toes during the game for 20 pts less than predicted. BTW, I'm fine with that... :D

Yeah I agree Oozie, I predicted a close game as well in Sad’s thread. After the first 3 weeks of the season...no way I thought our O line could dominate any SEC caliber competition. That program is becoming a disaster. With all the problems our program has dealt with in the last decade, there’s no way you could have convinced me that we would beat them 14 out of the last 15 years. It’s not even a rivalry anymore. ijs

It was admittedly surprising to sadgator. Tennessee was really a terrible team. sadgator almost kinda felt bad for them at the end.

It is very difficult to imagine that game ever becoming a big rivalry again. To the extent that it wasn’t dead...today may have just finished it off forever.

Thank goodness they didn’t get Dan before we did.....

Albert was holding up a sign on the sidelines during the game, TENNESSEE IS UT-MARTIN'S PRACTICE SQUAD. Dunno if that made it onto the TV.

He also had another sign with the UT and GState logo's and score that he was holding up too as he walked around the sidelines.

My brother told me while we were watching the game that Pruitt told the press that UF wasn't that good and they were coming to Gainesville to kick out asses. How does he walk that back? :p

Maybe I should have watched U.T. play this year before lamenting that they would likely hang with us. No way I thought they could be as bad as their record might indicate. Well they are!

Well it’s not that I didn’t know they were bad, I knew that. Just figured with all the injuries and Trask’s first start they’d make us have some mistakes which they did. I also thought they’d come in here with some pride and try to win and get their season back on track but they laid down from jump.

I think most of the close games predictions were classic home team hedging, predicting a closer game to avoid disappointment if team loses

Bottom line, Florida was a lot better team playing at home. That was obvious early when it seemed clear only turnovers could give utk a chance at all.

Still some over reaction to that late game weird interception with Miami

Overwhelmingly likely to be 5-0 soon. Schedule gets tougher then and some losses may come. As they would for any team that plays LSU, Auburn and Georgia in a relatively short period of time

Pruitt not likely to be great. He is a classic coordinator, seeming to lack the gravitas necessary to be a real successful head coach

That’s funny...it’s seems you may not have watched any of our first 3 games of the year if you were absolutely for certain that we would beat a U.T. program desperately looking for a win.

Yep. No hedging for me. I knew they were bad and I fully expected to win but it’s a rivalry with us banged up and then desperately needing a win it ain’t outrageous to think they come out with a little something extra.

Honestly they may be one of the worst p5 teams.

After we went up 10 it never seemed to be a close game to me. Weird feeling against a program that used to be our biggest rival(in my eyes). I am happy, sad and a little clueless.. Happy that we got the win, Trask looked great. Defense got constant pressure, and our lines looked better then they did last week.

Sad that this once great rivalry is dead. Other than the uniforms, this is not Tennessee, not the one I grew up rooting against.

Confused that a program can fall so hard so fast. Our decade of misery doesn't look too bad in comparison to the orange puttys. Yes we hired two terrible coaches, but even with them we still made a Sugar Bowl(got dismantled) and won two SEC East division titles(who cares).

Will Tennessee ever be elite again? I used to think so, but they don't have near as easy or short a road as I once thought.

They screwed up their coaching hires even worse than we did. It’s astonishing how far they’ve fallen and how fast. I think part of it is not having a fertile recruiting base nearby. They have to go out of state for a lot of guys and it’s been a tough sell. I will also repeat that uga has benefitted more than any program from them and us both being down. They can probably make it back but it might be tougher than some other schools

I had reservations about this game and was WRONG and I’m good with that. When Pruitt got confused about a penalty in the first quarter I was surprised. Dang. Also I thought Trask looked great in his debut game.

Is 28-6 even a rivalry?

UT has been irrelevant since 1998.

At this point FSU/UGA should really only be the UF rival. UT needs a demotion. Hell, LSU is more of a rival last bunch of years.

Relax Poindexter

Point was we have a much better team than Tennessee but gave reasons for tempering things

You may note I commented some of that was BECAUSE of earlier games

Love the love to fight internet guys

They were one game away from playing in the National Championship game in 2001 but choked to Saban/LSU in the SEC game(The Junior/Lulu game). From that point forward it was all down hill.

I still remember an old co-worker told me back when Spurrier left that UF would only win a few here and there in the UT series. The exact opposite happened.

I think most of us predicted that they would come out with pride and fight hard, until we got a couple scores. Our first drive of the game, 75 yards in only 5 plays sorta took the wind out of their sails before they even put their offense on the field.

I still say that the curse remains upon them. That game way back when that they stole from us because their home clock operator didn't run the clock which ended up giving them an extra 2 minutes to have another drive and attempt at the game winning field goal that they ended up winning on. I don't even remember the year now it's been so long ago, but I said then that that game would curse them for 10 years. Well we ended up having what, an 11 game winning streak on them after that? 14 of the last 15 and their program is a shambles now.

One might almost think there could be something to this curse stuff....

Yep 2004. That was the year. That was the game their CB threw a haymaker at Dallas Baker, Dallas slapped back and it was all in the face of the ref 2 yards away. He only flagged UF for unsportsmanlike. Then there was the clock debacle. The clock was supposed to run after that penalty.

I believe in the curse. Had UF won that game, it would have counted as a big win for the Zookster and we would have probably had him for another year and a team like Notre Dame would have got Urban. Instead Zook got the can, we picked up Urban who brought Mullen which later picked up Tebow, Percey, etc. We experienced two nattys, a Heisman, and a streak against the Dollywooders. Their legendary coach fizzled and burned. They have hired some buffoons, have had losing records and long streaks to their bigger names rivals in UF and Bama and have been on the losing end of more losses than wins vs Auburn and UGA. Plus have dropped games here and there to their smaller rivals UK and Vandy, games they normally dominated. Plus on a personal side note that tickles me, they let Memphis become the more exciting football team in their state more recently.

It couldn't have happened to a bigger douche nozzle of a fanbase.

As much as I dislike FSU, UGA, and such. These folks were the worst. Remember they are the ones who chanted "our students don't get murdered " at the time of Danny Rolling murders. They are the same group who threw a liquor bottle at Spurrier as he was exiting the field after the Palmer to Gaffney catch. That bottle ended up hitting a state trooper in the head. It's been a while but these were the same fans who would come into Gainesville and leave with committing more thuggery than those from a Miami fanbase would commit. I remember the 90's well. Cars would be keyed and windows broken in Gainesville parking lots.

Most people don’t remember or think it is urban legend. It was real. They chanted “Our students don’t get killed.” It was 1990. sadgator saw it. sadgator will never forget it.

Last 5 Recruiting Classes (2015-19) per Rivals:

2015
5. Tn - 4 5-stars
23. UF - 2 5-stars

2016
14. UF - 1 5-star
15. Tn - 1 5-star

2017
9. UF - 0 5-stars
15. Tn - 0 5-stars

2018
17. UF - 0 5-stars
20. Tn - 0 5-stars

2019
8. UF - 1 5-star
12. Tn - 1 5-star

2019 Team average class ranking and total number of 5-stars recruited:

Tn - 67/5 = 13.4 with 6 5-stars

UF - 71/5 = 14.2 with 4 5-stars

But Tennis-sea is 1-4 vs the Gators in that span.
Proving once again that recruit class ranking and 5-stars are the difference makers...

I didn't bother will searching out how many of the recruits are actually still on the 2019 team.

As to going out of stare, Tenn is surrounded my more states than any other state in the nation (7), and can recruit through Ga on their way to FL... NBD

As to Tn making it back, there's AD Phat-Phil and his hiring to get through...
