We've got it under control
It will be over by Eater
One day it will magically disappear
So it’s out of control? So what could any other president have done, to keep it minimized to a lesser extent at this point? He shut down the travel early. He formed a task force to fight it. He allowed state governments to make decisions based on their state. He has speed up the trial vaccine process by cutting out bureaucratic red tape. He has provided the necessary equipment for hospitals to fight it, by switching sectors of the manufacturing sector to produce the necessary equipment. What more can he do, what more could any other president do?

Listen, I know you’ve made that crack before and I usually let it go. But you’re an Alabama sheriffs deputy, which does not exactly scream genius. It’s easy to claim genius on an anonymous message board, which I won’t do, but If you want to compare education, I’d be glad to. Otherwise, all gloves are off.

Btw, Law Enforcement was always my plan after my Freshman year of college. I figured FBI or DEA but I got the job offer I mentioned above before my last semester in college.

I am grateful that I had that opportunity. It helped me set my family up like LE never could have and now I can do what I want instead of what I have to do. I've been blessed.

That said, you have a knack for being a faux condescending prick based on your preconceptions. Not all cops are bright but some are WAY smarter than you give them credit for...including the one that you condescended to in the post I just quoted.

It’s complete asinine to blame this pandemic and the response on Trump. Declaring martial law and completely shutting this Country down is complete nonsense, and that is the only way to keep COVID 19 from spreading. There has to be personal responsibility in taking precautions. People have to work and survive. You can’t get pissy with Trump because a thousands of people said f$&k it, we are going to riot and protest, and they don’t give a shit about spreading COVID 19. Trump didn’t create this unrest, just like he didn’t stop states from reopening. That’s not the job or jurisdiction of the federal government.

And he said once warmer weather got here that it would be knocked out and lo and behold....he's being proven right every day. Testing numbers through the roof, death rate falling through the floor.

Dude has nailed it from start to finish.

If the covid is so "knocked out" as you and trump claim, then why do the vast majority of states show so many more cases as states opened up? Testing numbers verify the numbers are high. Agree the death rate is lower and so are hospitalizations, but this is a function of the infections being in younger population groups. Just to be clear, did you also claim there is no vaccine for influenza as well?

It appears to me, and this is subject to change as we learn more about it, that the most dangerous aspect of Covid-19 is its rate of transmission. Much like the flu, it's typically well tolerated by otherwise healthy people. I think we all agree on this point.

So that leaves us with what should we and what can we do from here. Do we stay shut down everywhere and do our dead level best to prop up some semblance of an economy by continuing to print money? Or do we protect our most vulnerable while taking more risk with the less vulnerable so that we have some ability to pay for our standards of living?

I think we should take some risk, mitigating it as much as reasonably possible and react responsibly based on data where transmission rates become an issue. Yes, people are dying of this virus...but the lack of resources that come from a functioning economy is also bad for our health. And as the world's largest economies suffer, the rest of the world will suffer far worse. That too is worth consideration.

As with most things, I believe that the answer is somewhere in the middle.

Congrats, this is a logical and thoughtful post. Here are some concerns I have for you to consider; While I agree with your 1st paragraph, please don't diminish that our annual flu strikes and kills aprox. 30-40 K /yr. - young, old, healthy or sick, those are the average deaths. We are at aprox. 215K deaths in 4 months again that's total -- young , old. healthy, and sick. We have a significantly different outcome to date. Can we really say flu is a great comparison if the transmission rate AND death rates are that disparate?

Your second paragraph is spot on. Tough choices indeed.

The third paragraph is also dead right. Here is where a head-in-the-sand attitude hurts EVERYONE.
With no vaccine, you correctly state mitigation is our option, but given the transmission rate, it must be MANDATED and UNIVERSAL to be effective. We have not been given the leadership, the follow by example, the contact tracing resources,, testing/capita (especially early on) etc. to accomplish this adequately. A simple, effective start would be masks.

As testing increases, the number of cases increase.

What age group has been protesting and rioting all over the country? Think man, think!

Here's the real news:

DEATH RATE is falling like a rock. Massively good news for all.....except dems, apparently.

Just to be clear, did you also claim there is no vaccine for influenza as well?

There is no vaccine for the flu. That's why millions of people take flu shots every year.

No one takes a polio vaccine. Because it was eliminated from the US population decades ago via vaccination.

Yes, this is simply a new flu strain, just like Swine Flu was a new strain back in 2009. Soon there will be a shot for hoax flu just like there is for the seasonal flu, and numbers will go down in line with or below normal flu.

Again, Swine Flu infection one FIFTH of the US population AND put people in the ICU that didn't have underlying conditions, which makes it different from hoax flu.

Yet hoax flu is the one the media and dems are fear mongering over.

Democrat was president during Swine Flu, Republican is during hoax flu. Dots connect themselves.

Derp. So much stupid in this post.

The flu shot is indeed a vaccine.

the polio vaccination is indeed a vaccine.

You Trumpers are something else.

Some posters simply refuse to learn. IE- flu shots ARE vaccines, polio vaccines are given all over the USA and the world, swine flu caused 1/10th the deaths of Covid ( to date), coroviruses don't care which party is in the WH, both swine flu and covid are pandemic but covis is more contagious and much more deadly.

Your post compares 19 months of H1N1 to 5 months of Covid. Yeah that would be a silly way to compare contagious. Google R factor. You fail to mention the deadly aspect 12,500 deaths by H1N1 in 19 months to 127,000 deaths in 4 months. Have you figured out yet that the flu shot is a vaccine and that polio vaccine is given routinely? SMH

Transmission rate? Absolutely. Death rates? I don't believe that is correct and the more data we get, the more it points to a very similar death rate. More will die from Covid than flu simply because of its rate of transmission.

Disagree with much of this as well. Mandated at the local level? I think that is wise but you can't manage this from DC because one size does not fit all. It would be too aggressive in some areas and not aggressive enough in others.

And testing per capita has been better in the US than anywhere on planet earth. Again, we've tested more people than the rest of planet earth combined (save nations that aren't reporting test numbers). Yes, it got off to a slow start but we have done an EXCELLENT job since.

I'm going off what you said and providing common sense facts that prove your claim is FOS. I can't mention stuff you didn't mention, if you need a do-over to better organize your argument then that's on you, not me.

I put the facts right there for you. I can't make you learn them. Math seems so troubling to you. Feel free to enjoy the science-less fact-free atmosphere that appears to be prevalent currently.

You definitely sound like a guy that takes a yearly polio vaccine.

So now you do know that polio vaccine is routinely given to children in the US. Very good. Next lesson Adults in US would not need it but once, unless going worldwide to a hot spot of polio infection. You sound like a guy that missed out on science classes.

The US avg about 30-40 million flu cases annually, resulting in about 30-50 thousand deaths. Covid has caused 218 thousand deaths with 2.5 million cases. If flu was as deadly we'd have nearly 3 million flu deaths a year.

No, we are currently (6/29) ranked 8th in per capita testing.

This is a National pandemic, local effots should go beyond minimum protocols if they have a severe outbreak, but there should have been a National minimum because it spreads so easily.

Yes because children are routinely born in the US.

New strain so we don't have proper treatments in place yet.

Don't worry, by this time next year the cases and death rate will be in line with regular flu and you will be taking a yearly shot for it that won't vaccinate you against hoax flu anymore than the flu shots you're taking now do.

Good grief...you just won't be happy until we hang a hammer and a sickle over the White House.

There is zero reason to mandate this federally. It is actually counterintuitive. It's a national pandemic....wow.

This is the same guy that wears the same cloth mask 24/7 and gets a polio vaccine every year.

And you are likely the guy that wears a "mask with two eye holes and a pointed top" that posted in post #87 that there is no vaccine for the flu, and no one gets a polio shot anymore. Birdbrain would be a stretch for those statements since "brain" is actually mentioned.

Ah so now we're back to the old democrat projection game of calling others the racists.

My party was fighting for civil rights for all 200 years ago while yours was forming the kkk.

My party freed the slaves, your party went to war to stop it.

My party wrote and passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Your party employed the longest filibuster in US history to attempt to stop it. And you failed.

My party passed prison reform that will benefit minorities, yours passed crime bills that put them in prison for life.

My party didn't eulogize kkk grand wizard Robert Byrd (democrat) as being a wonderful person. Your President (Obama), VP (Biden) and Sec of State (Clinton) all did and admired the man to his death.

Talk to me more about who the racists are.

And I see you can't dispute any of these facts that illustrate your party's racist past and present.

BTW forgot to mention dems in Congress proudly wearing Kente cloths, that came from an African tribe with a long history of engaging in the illicit slave trade. Now THAT was a dog whistle to white supremacists if ever there was one.

Maybe instead of trying to project your party's bad behavior onto Republicans, you guys should simply start acting like decent people?

You can start by viewing minorities as AMERICANS, not political pawns.

LOL. Trump retweeted a video thanking his great supporters and they're shouting "white power" on Sunday. End of story. Kente cloths= nothingburger. The rest of the rant is a strawman treatise as literally no one here - EXCEPT YOU brought up political parties, and history. Everyone was on covid , then you moved topic to rant.

Just like you are the one that brought up racism, trying to project your party's racist roots onto others.

Lying when you have no proof is pathetic. Show me a post where I stated I was NOT a Democrat. You also cannot show me a post where I said I was. You watch impeachedpotus tweet a video that is factually racist, but somehow I am not supposed to mention it. Uh... saying something is racist when it is 100% racist is fine by me, apparently you have a real problem with it..... sorry I totally controlled and triggered you by projecting Trump's blatant racism at you. You go ahead and get pissy with Dem/Pub racial history .... I'm talking Sunday. Is it hot with that hood on?

Did it bother you when the lefties at that same event started the white power chant?

Or is that different?

The only reason that you can say this with a straight face is because you don't consider people of color attacking white people an issue and you certainly wouldn't call it racially motivated.

You tell half-truths on the reg and that makes you a liar. You should work on that.

If the Villages want to have a White Power golf cart parade, yep 1st amend. works . Anybody that tries to take that away bothers me. Would you agree that any legal assembly in this land should have the expectation that the 1st amend. allows they can do so without being physically menaced or threatened? Now if another group is also using their 1st amend rights, it becomes problematic.
