Herman to LSU

Ego? If he turns LSU's offense into a juggernaut he's getting all that praise and can name his job. Even though the people that know football realize what a sick job he's done for Bama he's still overshadowed and most people think it's just Saban keeping him under control. So he could probably prove more away from Bama.

This is my thought. And it sounds like Ogre is going to hire two to coordinators and stay out of the way. And Kiffin and Ogre could be a recruiting machine. Add Strong as DC and they could flat out recruit

Personally, I'd rather have Orgeron + Kiffin + Charlie Strong than Tom Herman. The kids love Orgeron.

But, I don't think Kiffin makes a lateral move to a major rival of his current program.

You'd rather have a collection of failed head coaches than the one guy who's proven not to be a failure?

Orgeron didn't fail this year, despite having to pick up the reins in the middle of the season. He didn't do well at Ole Miss, but the Rebels weren't doing all that great when he took over. It was a challenge to be a low-tier SEC program during the late 2000s, when the SEC was a meat grinder.

All things being equal, I'd take Herman over Orgeron. But if I could take Orgeron for less than half the price, and use the spare cash to hire a couple of top coordinators, I'd go with the latter.

I don't expect this combination to actually happen, in case I wasn't clear before. Kiffin and Strong are proven coordinators, though I'd worry about how much they would be willing to defer to Orgeron after both having been HCs at top programs.

This is a silly way to look at things. Failed head coaches make great assistants all the time. All those guys were/are elite coordinators which is why they got HC jobs to begin with. So why would them being coordinators again be a bad thing?

We don't even know who his assistants are going to be. I'm willing to bet LSU fans aren't thrilled with this hire.

Would you take the Ogre over Fleck, Fedora, Rich Rod (sorry had to throw him in there), James Franklin, D'Antonio, Gary Patterson, Petrino, Fuente, Dan Mullen?

Orgeron was a panic hire by a poor AD. If you are going to hire Orgeron what's the rush? Why did they have to do it today? They didn't want to talk to any other potential candidates, etc.?

I'm sure LSU fans hate it. He'll recruit like a demon though. Not that that has ever been LSU's problem.

No I wouldn't choose Oregon over any of those guys. I was more responding to Hardliner assuming having Kiffin and Strong would be bad. I'm not seeing why that would be the case if he can get them.

Strong should have stayed at Louisville. Hindsight and all but that was a good fit. He could recruit Florida kids that the big 3 didn't offer and it's low pressure, they still like basketball more if truth be told. I don't think he knew what he was in for at Texas. Doubt he gets another top 40 job.
