I’ve seen stats that up to 70% of NBA viewership is now foreign, with China actually having a larger share of overall broadcast/ streaming viewership than US. Their ratings are down by half, and would be massively worse if not for foreign market growth.

I disagree. I think that’s changed, particularly after the Budweiser fiasco. As evidenced by some of these things. I think some of these companies are learning the hard way that it’s better to be at the bottom of that index, then to be below their competition and profits.
Although I do agree, that’s where the initial motivation came from. But thankfully, the American people have rejected it with their wallets.
