Gators to Hire Ron Roberts as LB Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator ?

Florida football's official visit tracker for June 2023

The month of June is rapidly approaching, which means that official visit season for Florida football is just around the corner. The Gators already have a laundry list of prep prospects they scheduled to visit campus — a list that is expected to continue growing as summer slides into frame.

However, starting in 2023, high school prospects can officially visit as many schools as they want, but athletic programs are limited to just 56 OVs in a calendar year, forcing schools to be selective with their invites. This ups the ante when it comes to player-school relationships as an official visit assumes there is mutual interest between the two parties.

The 56 OV limit is another reason to focus on State of Florida players. With obliging G'ville Boosters (Owners of Motel/Hotel, restaurants, etc) the difference between an OV & an UOV for players & parents who live in the State of Florida will be minimal.

JUNE 2

Hope that Smith taking his OV to Gators after his OV to UGA works in our favor !

4-star CB decommits from Michigan State, re-opens recruitment

Looks like June is going to be an awesome month for CBN & Gator's Recruiting !

Florida football got some good news along with a dose of schadenfreude on Saturday when four-star cornerback recruit Jamari Howard decommitted from the Michigan State Spartans. The news comes just weeks ahead of the 6-foot-2-inch, 175-pound defensive back’s scheduled official visit with the Gators — a program that has long coveted the in-state target — on the weekend of June 2.

Fever,

See your point
BUT
what is fair - in the way of travel logistics - for the Jaguar's fan base ?
Large stadiums with NFL class locker room facilities (visitor's locker room in BHG will probably have to be remodeled) don't grow on tress; don't know of any other suitable stadium sitting around, unused in N E Florida.

Jags lucky that the HOPED FOR option of playing at BHG exits, close by in G'ville.

Riding to Orlando - twice the distance & has the same problem with UCF games.

A return to Doug's Rug in BHG ? Hope not; injuries more frequent.

Sod is cheap - let the G'ville merchants contribute to field upkeep.

Not sure you can get a field ready to go in like 16 hours. We will see what they do. It would take a lot of scheduling juggling on the Jags part probably. Curious what they do with this and the FL-GA game long term.

Fever,

what other choices do they have ?
Alterations to Fl-Ga bad enough; if they move the Jags out of town, doubt they come back. Shan Kahn not poor, but even he can't wave his hands & shorten the construction time.
assume, Shan Kahn & City of Jax have had extended discussions & have a plan, Interested to see what develops.

Downsizing the fixed seating capacity may be a deal breaker for Fl-Ga, although temporary seating (as they currently do for Fl-Ga) may alleviate that.
Charge more for the good seats & eliminate student tickets ?

FWIW
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Major renovations at TIAA Bank Field are moving toward becoming a reality.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected global design firm HOK as their consultant for the project, HOK confirmed to News4JAX.

On Thursday, the Jaguars published similar information in a post on the 1stDownTownJacksonville site. Among the information released on Thursday, the team said, “HOK’s initial concepts of the new home for the Jaguars and other world-class entertainment events embraced adaptive reuse and prioritized various features our fans and stakeholders requested, namely shade over all seats, improved airflow, wider concourses, unique fan amenities, flexible capacity and rain protection to help attract other major non-football events to Jacksonville.”

https://www.news4jax.com/news/local...e-shade-roof-reduced-seating-capacity-report/

We look forward to working through the creative process as these very conceptual designs evolve into more definitive renovation plans. In addition, when we have a more definitive renovation plan, construction timelines and cost estimates can be determined.
At that point, we will be better positioned to begin a productive dialogue about a partnership structure among the Jaguars and the City of Jacksonville.

City of Jax will obviously pay for the renovations - can't afford to lose the Jags; Jax would never get another NFL team.
Los Angeles lost the Rams & look how long it took them to get another team; City of Jax (hopefully) not that stupid.

The Jaguar's economic benefit to Jacksonville & N E Florida impossible to calculate.

Consistent with NFL rules and regulations, any Jaguars stadium lease extension will require the approval of the National Football League and 75 percent of its teams.

Mark Lamping, President of the Jacksonville Jaguars, said: “While much work remains to be done, we are pleased to have completed one more step in what remains a long but manageable journey.

According to a recent report published by industry insider Venues Now, the preliminary concepts include a shade roof covering the seating bowl and downsizing from about 67,000 to roughly 57,500-60,000 fixed seats, but no contract had been signed as of last week.

HOK is the same firm behind the renovations at the Miami Dolphins stadium and the new Atlanta Falcons stadium. HOK was competing against seven other firms.

Probably more likely we go to home and home with them going down to that number of seats.

Fever,

You could be right
BUT
Large cleared areas in upper deck where they can & do add temporary seating. -
- last year's attendance for WLOCP listed at Capacity 76,666

Would think that City of Jax would be conscience of keeping approximately that number of seats available for FL-GA.

Charge more for sheltered seats; less for the temporary ones; same $$$ for gate ?

Who knows ?

Paco has already reported his upcoming visit - but here's an article about Mylan Graham & some HUDL Clips.

This visit he’s taking will be a quick one, but will be his first time in Gainesville and perhaps a good teaser to set up a longer visit over the summer.

Will Thomas - "There’s a universe out there somewhere where both Graham and Jeremiah Smith flip to come to play with DJ Lagway.

Let’s hope it’s this one."

Numbers,

didn't recognize the acronym - GOR - had to look it up & it took me a second. Let me know if this (below) is what you mean.

"... The full answer hinges on the grant of rights.
ACC schools have granted the TV rights for their home games to the conference until 2036. The ACC then distributes that revenue back to teams. If FSU can’t find a legal escape valve, the Seminoles stand to lose out hundreds of millions of dollars."

Florida State’s board of trustees meeting sounded like a warning shot to the ACC: Fix the massive revenue gap between the SEC and Big Ten, or else.

“At the end of the day for Florida State to compete nationally, something has to change moving forward,” Seminoles athletic director Michael Alford said.

Something has to change because the status quo is unsustainable for a national-championship program.

The numbers Alford presented are striking.
The SEC will soon make $811 million per year with its new ESPN/ABC deal.

The Big Ten’s contracts are closer to $1.1 billion. (WTF why do they get $300M more for 2nd rate football ?)

The ACC lags far behind at $240 million. To make matters worse, the ACC’s deal doesn’t expire until 2036, after the Big Ten and SEC get another chance to negotiate an even bigger payday before the ACC.

Factor in everything else that goes into conference payouts, and Alford said FSU faces a $30 million annual gap that might extend more than a decade.

Like SadGator - I'm quoting myself LOL

Reread my post & for some reason I thought about a quote from former Marquette Basketball Coach (1964-1977) Al McGuire.

He talked about recruiting. His statement was that every year he would pick one HS player to personally recruit. He claimed that he never missed on that one player.

CBN has been personally involved in several recruiting battles - usually QBs; he is now choosing to get involved in DT David Stone - hoping he, like Al McGuire doesn't miss.

A few other McGuire quotes you may find interesting -

If winning weren’t important, nobody would keep score.

When I’m losing, they call me nuts. When I’m winning, they call me eccentric.

A team should be an extension of a coach’s personality. My teams are arrogant and obnoxious.

I think everyone should go to college and get a degree and then spend six months as a bartender and six months as a cab driver. Then they would really be educated.

So fsu has sent lawyers to ACC headquarters to comb through the GOR and to see if it's breakable (been doing it for 2 yrs). Quick answer, it's not breakable. However, there is a clause in the GOR that states if the majority of teams leave the ACC then the ACC is dissolved basically voiding the GOR by default. Lately we have heard even they don't get majority teams, fsu was willing to challenge in court (USF by joining the big 12 will be making more money than us each yr). I think we would have to pay 100 millionish, which we have been quietly accumulating over the last few yrs to challenge it and break away. I would be shocked if we were in the ACC in 2028.

So where do we go? The quick answer depends on espn, if they want to keep us, the SEC is the easy option (not my preferred option). The 2nd option and my favorite is the big 10. Same money, good leadership, and some really big games every yr. I think the big 10 will want Clemson and FSU and I think that's ultimately where we land in the next 4 to 5 yrs.

Funny thing about the current GOR to 2036, it was put in place because the big 12 was courting fsu to join and fsu was going to but it feel through.

Miami, FSU and Clemson are pushing for the Big 10. While it is a pretty good football conference it is still pretty much only a two team conference when it comes to football with Ohio St and Michigan so it is a much easier conference than the SEC. In fact only 1 Big 10 team has even won a national title in football in the 2000s (Ohio St). Miami can’t even win the ACC so no conference is easy for them but they know it is an easier path than the SEC.

I think this is true. If the SEC didn't add OU and Texas, I'd be more for fsu and Clemson going there because of location and some fun games. However, they seem like a finished product to me. The Big will have USC and UCLA joining (USC has been in playoff contention and will probably stay there because of Riley). The big is filled with Auburn type teams (very good but won't ever win the big one). I think the big Ten 10 offers some top matchups for fsu if Clemson joins. We would play Oh st, Clemson, Mich, Penn state, USc, and imo ND would think about joining as well. That's 5 or 6 really big matchups and a comparable conf to the SEC. Not sure which would be better moving forward but the money would be even which is what we are after. We can't keep falling 30 million behind and expect to keep up, that's impossible. I'd love to be in the SEC but I just think they are "full" right now with a good later of top and medium teams with a few bottom feeders. The big needs a few more top teams to join. Would be a fun cfb landscape if all that happened.

Agreed with just about everything you said except for some of the fillers are like Auburn. Auburn has actually won a national championship in the last 20 years which would only put them behind Ohio St for titles. I’d compare most of the big 10 fillers to like a Miss St, Ole Miss, USCjr or UK. Those are teams that aren’t likely to ever win a title. I also don’t think ND is going to join a conference anytime soon either but I guess we will see. They love to be “Independent”.

USF has
0 - National Titles
0 - Conference Titles
Basically, USF doesn't have a pot to piss in or a window to pour it out of.
But making more $$$ than you Noles - doesn't make sense !

Would rather have you & Clemson in the SEC where we can keep an eye on you.

Plus (hopefully) we (Noles & Gators) will still play each other on a yearly basis, so better, IMO, to have you in our conference.

Even if conference affiliations work out as you suggest - can't imagine not playing & insulting our neighbors in the
School Out West.

Big 10 has that funny white stuff that falls out of the sky - no place for good, Deep-South Football Teams.

I guess we will see what the future holds.

Florida Hosted Ohio State WR Commit Mylan Graham on UOV Monday

WR Eugene Wilson III should be on Campus May 29th to help host Lagway, Williams, & Smith on June 2nd

Florida hosted New Haven (Ind.) High wide receiver Mylan Graham, a class of 2024 commitment to Ohio State, on an unofficial visit Monday, he shared via Instagram.

The trip to Gainesville marked Graham's first as a recruit after earning an offer from the Gators' coaching staff on March 28.
Although he has been committed to the Buckeyes since April 4, Graham's pledge hasn't prevented him from checking out what other programs have to offer.

Graham also unofficially visited Miami on May 13, according to On3 Sports.

Graham, 6-foot-1, 170 pounds, is considered the No. 4 wide receiver and No. 19 overall prospect in the class of 2024 according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He's hauled in 73 receptions for 1,496 yards and 15 touchdowns in 17 varsity games dating back to his freshman season at New Haven.

Consensus No. 1 receiver Jeremiah Smith, of Opa Locka (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep, visited the Gators unofficially on March 23 and will officially visit UF from June 2-4.

Florida currently possesses one wide receiver commitment in the class of 2024, from Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day's Izaiah Williams.

With just eight scholarship receivers on its roster, including anticipated summertime enrollee and class of 2023 prospect Eugene Wilson III, the Gators aim to stack talent at the position in the coming months to pair with prized quarterback commit and 2024 Willis (Texas) High product DJ Lagway in UF's future offense.

Lagway & Izaiah Williams (UOV) scheduled to be in the Swamp June 2nd to (hopefully) connect with Jeremiah Smith (OV).

NOTE

WR Eugene Wilson III, along with the other 3 reaming 2023 scholarship players not currently on campus (see below) are scheduled to move in on May 29th.

IF that happens as scheduled - Wilson would be here to help host QB Lagway & WRs Williams & Smith !!!

If this happens - we can all stand up & applaud CBN & his staff for tweaking the details & making it happen !

RB Jerrick Gibson Places Gators in Top 5

I either did not realize or had forgotten that Gibson is from Gainesville.

Jerrick Gibson on HUDL

Gainesville, Fla. native and class of 2024 running back Jerrick Gibson included his hometown Gators among the top five schools remaining in his recruitment on Tuesday evening.

Florida made the list alongside Texas, Tennessee, Georgia and Miami.

Since he also plans to take an OV to Bama; guess we need to call it a Top 6.
Rule changes now say that recruits can take as many OVs as they want; but institutions are limited to hosting 56 OVs.

https://www.si.com/college/florida/recruiting/florida-gators-recruiting-jerrick-gibson-top-five

I think Defense will be improved but we will go from #100 to about #50 which isnt nearly good enough to carry most games for you ike the defense did some years under the 3 previous coaches.
You've got 1st/2nd/3rd & Napier on offense, with Mertz/Miller at QB, so my expectations are pretty close to non-existent....

Rumors the 56 OVs is going to be increased to 70 from what I understand. Secondly Gibson isn’t coming to UF. He wants a huge NIL like the RB from Edgewater high school got last year from Texas.

Paco,

If CBN maintains his in state focus the difference between an UOV & an OV for an in-state recruit should be minimal.
BUT,
Increasing OVs to 70 will help.

As I have noted before, your eyes & ears much better than mine when it comes to things like NIL expectations.

With no limit on OVs for players, Gibson may just be shopping the market or amusing himself. Maybe CBN & all the other schools recruiting him have dashed water on his NIL$$$ hopes & he is reassessing his NIL$$$ expectations.

It could just be that despite the overblown NIL expectations you ascribe to him, he grew up in Gainesville - watching the Gators - & still has a feel for them.

Not sure we need a third RB. With Bowens & Daniels, we already have two good RB commits - all we have to do is get them enrolled.

Cam Carroll obviously gone after this year & if Montrell Johnson has a really good year, he could be too.

Even if Montrell stays for his last year, that would only be 5 RBs & as a run based offense, we need enough high quality players in RB room to handle any injuries that might happen.

Fever,

saw the online post but didn't recognize the name.

I have always felt that WR was the easiest position for a true Fr to come in & excel at
BUT
a lot of that depends of the QB throwing the ball !

We seem to share the same reservations about our QBs, but who knows - Maybe the horse will learn to sing between now & the Utah game - Sept 2nd.
