Gator's 2024-25 Recruiting / Portal

We are in such good shape Bama is having to take our backups now.

I think Bama and GA are about the only 2 teams now which just have a few portal starters. Most other teams are loaded down with portal starters now.

Clemson has done less in the portal than anyone, by miles and miles. Since it started, they've brought in only two transfers through the portal - a couple of QBs, neither of whom ever started a game for them.

Bump to the new page....
I'm not too worried about the EDGE for now, we'll see as time goes by....

Returning Roster EDGE for 2025:

George Gumbs Jr 6-4 249 rsSr - 32 Tkls, 5 Sacks, 4 QBH, 2 PBU, 1 FR

Tyreak Sapp 6-2.5 272 rsSr - 44 Tkls, 13 TFL, 7 Sacks, 4 QBH, 2 FF

TJ Searcy 6-5 262 Jr - 34 Tkls, 4 TFL, 2 Sacks, 2 FF, 1 FR, 1 QBH

Kamran James 6-5.5 267 Jr - 25 Tkls, 6 QBH, 3 TFL, 1 Sack, 1 FF

LJ McCray 6-6 264 So - 12 Tkls, 5 QBH, 1 TFL, 0.5 Sack

#7 EDGE Jayden Woods 6-3 240 Fr ****

#22 EDGE Jalen Wiggins 6-4.5 255 Fr ****

Layne Swafford 6-2 243 rsSo - PWO
Titus Bullard 6-2 223 rsFr - WO
Charles Emaunel III 6-3 236 rsFr - WO

Forgot about them. I wonder if he eventually budges on that as they haven't been their usual self since NIL started. They kind of backed into the playoff spot with the 3 losses this season.

In a related development a judge ruled the NCAA can't count junior college years toward eligibility since it's not an NCAA institution. Vandy's QB sued on that. Next we will have someone suing they shouldn't be limited to 4 full years as long as they are in graduate school. A lot more money to be made for some players that aren't likely to stick in the NFL and tons more money than the Canadian league pays.

Interesting point. When you think about it, why should eligibility be limited to 4 years? And a lot of times it isn’t.

Amateur College Football has finally become $emi-Pro in all but in name.

The death of College sports. How long before this moves down to the HS level?
Probably some of it already happening however the thing that NCAA always loses on in court is that they make a ton of money off college athletics, so setting up arbitrary rules to prevent athletes from participating (or preventing them from participating where they want) has been considered restraint of trade.

Well if they want it like that you grab the NFL final cut guys and the top Canadian league guys. Way more bang for the buck. There are players in Canada making like I think 95k on average with their salary caps there a lot better than some of these college players making way more than them. You won't have to guess much about their true level of play either.

Make it truly open and the market will correct many of these kids being overpaid. The education thing is a joke for 2/3 of the players anyway.

Pyburn's dad is acting like the position coach is the issue apparently. My guess is he didn't want to share reps at a certain level here or why leave if it isn't for more money.

A pretty good pickup. People say he will be clear 4 star talent with Lagway. Good at contested catches and had a big 22 season and supposedly QB and scheme changes hurt his numbers after that. Did have two 100+ yard games against USC and Minnesota though.

The Florida Gators will put the bow on the 2024 football season on Friday afternoon as they take on Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl but soon after the game is over, the coaching staff will turn their attention to adding pieces for the 2025 season.
Billy Napier and the coaching staff will host several prospects on campus starting on Friday night as they look to add more transfers and possibly two more high school prospects to the class.
GC brings you a look at this weekend’s visitors list for the Florida Gators.

2025 prospects heading to town

Fresh off being released from Oregon, receiver Dallas Wilson will be in town for his official visit. Expectations are that the Gators will land Wilson and he will enroll early at Florida but this weekend the staff will be able to put the finishing touches on this plan.

Penn tight end commit Cameron Kossmann will make the trip from Missouri this weekend as the Gators offered him earlier this week. The Gators are looking to add a tight end to the class after they parted ways with Taeshaun Gelsey. Kossman is a true tight end and he plans to arrive in Gainesville on Friday night.

Transfers to visit

The Gators have picked up two transfers already and they’re looking to add several more to the class and they will have several top targets on campus this weekend before the dead period starts on Monday.

Texas receiver transfer Johntay Cook plans to be in town on Saturday as he’s someone the Gators continue to evaluate. Cook has been very open about his interest in the Gators and playing with DJ Lagway so this weekend could really help the Gators.

Central Connecticut State offensive lineman Rahtrel Perry is also planning to visit Florida this weekend after he visited Ohio State and Syracuse already. Perry is someone the Gators really like at tackle.

UMass defensive line transfer Kofi Asare is another name that plans to be in town this weekend as the Gators are looking to add depth after TJ Searcy and Jack Pyburn decided to transfer.

UAB defensive back transfer Adrian Maddox is planning to make the trip to Gainesville on Saturday after he had a solid year at UAB. Maddox is someone the Gators like at safety.

I wonder if the FCS lineman will live up to his billing. Quite a few linemen teams have been high on from the FCS don't pan out on power 4 teams.

So if Dallas Wilson signs with us since he is asking out of his deal with Oregon, is it it gonna help our signing class of 2024?
