As usual, the NCAA made their path more difficult than it should be for a #1 seed. They put 50 win Florida Atlantic in their regional, then put them up against Georgia in the Super Regional, with Georgia as a #16 seed getting softer regional opponents than UF. On top of that, if we get to the WCWS, our 1st game will be against, probably, the winner of the FSU/Kentucky Super Regional, with a 2nd round match-up against either Auburn or Oregon. Auburn does have to get past Tennessee first, but Florida's path is not easy and they will have a bullseye on their back. Michigan, Oklahoma and Alabama are in the other side of the bracket, but I thought a #1 seed was supposed to get easier draws. We've played the toughest schedule in the nation, by far, went undefeated out of conference and the reward these girls get is probably the toughest draw of any of the top 8 seeds. I hope their bats come alive, the pitching stays stout and they stick it to the NCAA again. Go Gators!!

Just like with gymnastics, the NCAA would rather have some other team win it all.
UF Gymnastics 3X NC -- UF Softball 2X NC

And while the 'officials' can't entirely 'fix' the outcomes, they can and will 'tilt the table' in the direction that they want things to go, so we'll see.... o_O

Read where this is the fourth time that UF has been the No 1 overall seed since the NCAA went to the Super Regional format. No one else has done it more than once.

I don't think our bracket is that bad, IMO the only teams that can beat us (twice) are Oklahoma, Alabama, Oregon and Auburn, and they're all in the other bracket.

No, their not, the op is right. If we make it to OKC, we have oregon and auburn on our side. Not to mention, we could also possibly have to face Tenn or Kentucky. The other bracket seems much easier, it looks like the ncaa is doing all it can to help bama and michigan.

I told myself, I'm going to stop letting such things bother me and just root for the women to do their best regardless of the outcome. GO, GATORS!!!

Kelsey Stewart, you've been good but not up to your own standards, it's time for that to change, you've only got a few more games to represent the Gators, make the most of it.

From fat Dooley;

14. Because the NCAA uses geography and doesn’t believe in the integrity of seeding in the softball regionals, Florida got a pretty tough one. Second-seeded Florida Atlantic is the only other team in the field with 50 wins and UCF is a strong team as well. Just out of curiosity, I added together the RPIs of the second and third seeds in each regional. Lafayette has the toughest (No. 17 Texas A&M and No. 28 Texas), with Tallahassee second and Los Angeles third. Florida’s is the fifth-toughest based on RPI (FAU is 23 and UCF 33). The easiest belongs to Michigan because the third seed is Miami of Ohio with a 106 RPI. The SEC has eight teams who will host the regionals, half of the 16 top seeds, but at least two won’t make it past the Super Regionals because SEC teams would be matched up there if the seeds hold.

To be the best you have to beat the rest.

Line em up and wear them out. If we are number 1, play like #1. These girls aren't scared. Go Gators!

Correction: That's Fat Drooley if you please.... :D

(he will occasionally trip over an acorn though)

Once you get to the WCWS all 8 teams are playing well to be there, obviously and match-ups don't matter that much, although it would be nice to play teams outside the SEC, at least early on. But it also seems the #1 seed should get an easier path, much like the #2 seed Michigan got. We still should get there, but like Dooley says, the committee puts geography ahead of fairness. I, also, agree that Stewart is not getting on base like she did her 1st 3 years and Fuller seems to have lost all confidence at the plate. Merritt has been real steady with her play and Munro is having her best year with the bat, on top of being the best catcher in the country. If Stewart & Fuller get hot, watch out - If they don't it's going to be a real struggle to win in OKC, even with the great pitching and defense.

That is the bitch about playing in the SEC in both softball and baseball. There are SOOO many great programs, the possibility of meeting another SEC team early on is very high.

I think this softball team relishes the opportunity to play Auburn again.

Our side of the bracket has 6 SEC treams.
The other side of the bracket has 5 SEC teams.
That's 11 out of the SEC's 14 teams in the NCAA Regional's.

UF has the toughest regional because the only other team with 50+ wins is in our opening 4 team group, FAU 50-7.
That just seems pretty chicken-chit of the committee to me.

If they are really concerned about geography, then how are OkSt and Maine in UGA's starting barcket??? o_O

UK has Utah in their bracket.
TN has tOSU and AZ
AU has OreSt
aTm has BostonU
UA has Cal
LSU has LIU Brooklyn and AzSt
George Eats Old Gray Rats And Paints Houses Yellow - my azz....

Whatever.

Quit whining and play the games

Sorry, but none of us is actually on the Softball team, so playing the game is basically out of the question.

The difference between 'whining and discussing' is similar to George Carlan's difference between 'Stuff' and 'Chit'. (I've got no place for my stuff, because your chit is in the way)

LHP Delanie Gourley Jr 18.3 - 2 No-No's this season.
143.2 Innings Pitched with 206 Strikeouts - (1.44 SO's per IP) - #2 ERA 0.73 - OBA .139

RHP Aleshia Ocasio Soph - 20-1 - 1 No-No
130.0 Innings Pitched with 130 Strikeouts - (1.0 SO's per IP) - #1 ERA 0.70 - OBA .186
~ From what I've seen, Aleshia could probably play any position on the field, she's not just a great pitcher, she's a true all-around player imo.

RHP Kelly Barnhill Fr - 15-1 - 1 No-No
107.1 Innings Pitched with 164 Strikeouts - (1.53 SO's per IP) - ERA 1.37 - OBA .141
Kelly holds the UF record for SO's in a game with 18.

* Their combined pitching ERA is a Nation leading 0.90
They are #2 in fielding percentage at .984.

Gator Pitchers have combined to go 53-5.

All 3 have 100+ innings pitched, (381).
All 3 have 130+ strike-outs, (500).
All 3 have 15+ wins, (53)
All 3 combined make up the 'by-far' #1 Pitching Trio in College Softball.
***** And all 3 will be returning for next season. -- Yee-Haw!!! chomp

Catcher Aubree Munro Sr (in iG's humble opinion, the best catcher in Gator history)
In 934 Defensive chances, Aubree has 1 error in the last 2 seasons combined. (Bat-Ave .279)
She flashed her defensive brilliance at Ole Miss. The Rebels entered that weekend as the SEC leader with 106 stolen bases with an 86% success rate. In game one of the series, Munro caught two Rebels trying to steal and picked off one Rebel base runner all 3 by the 3rd inning.
05

~ Ole Miss did not attempt another stolen base for the remainder of the 3 game series.
15

Florida's opponents have only attempted to steal 11 bases against Aubree Munro and UF's catchers this season. That mark would shatter Florida's school record of 25 attempts by opponents that was set (by Munro) in 2015. In addition, UF's stolen-base-against percentage of 45% (5-11) this season would be the lowest in school history.
~ We are all going to greatly miss Aubree next season, but next girl (brick) up...

The 2016 Gator Team:
Has a .314 Team Bat-Ave.
Their .437 OBP is the best in UF history.
Amanda Lorenz (.530), Nicole DeWitt (.520) and Kayli Kvistad (.517) are trying to become the first trio in school history to all have at least a .500 OBP or higher in a single season.
~~ Senior Kelsey Stewart is the NCAA active leader in games played (259), at-bats (898), hits (355), triples (29) and she's third in total bases (507) and fourth in runs scored (257). In addition, she's one of two active players in the country with 300-plus hits, 200-plus runs and 100-plus stolen bases.
The Gators have 8 come-from-behind wins – 4 in SEC play – are 3-0 in 2016 extra-inning games.
They have 28 shutouts and 19 mercy-rule victories so far in 2016.
UF is 22-5 vs current 1-25 RPI opponents and 10-0 vs opponents ranked 26-50 in the RPI rankings.
UF has allowed just 62 runs and committed only 25 errors through 58 games.
The Gators are 20-5 (.800) against top-25 opponents this season, for best in the SEC
The 2x NC Florida Gator's continue to be the #1 Ranked Team in both polls.

NCAA Regional: 3-0 UF won 3 Shutouts, going 24-0 combined in the 3 games, 2 were 5 inning mercy-rule (11-0 & 8-0) 5 inning wins.

Kelsey Steward made a GREAT play, a smart play, a very good play.

However,,, instead of just stealing home, she also 'stole' a Gran-Slam from Nicole DeWitt's 3 run HR....
Sorry Niki, but sometimes do-do occurs, even if it's the non-smelly kind....

Next UP -- The Jawja Buttsniffers for a 3 game (SEC) Super Regional.
The winner punches their ticket to OK-City for the WCWS.

PS

Just a thought, but should we nick-name the stadium 'The Brick House'.... :D
(I liked the song, it always brought a smile to my face) ;)

Katie Chronister, Gainesville High School. Just won a state championship last week. Finished 2nd for Florida High School Softball Player of the Year. She's a lefty, 5'9", ace for GHS since her freshman year. Threw 12 shoutouts this year, 4 in the playoffs and shut out opponents in the state semi-finals as well as in the finals. Regular season ERA was 0.60 with 243 strikeouts in 164 innings. Plus she hits. Will be interesting to see how Coach Walton uses 4 high quality pitchers next year.

Figures that a dog and a nole comes over to gloat. FSU fans are particularly funny. Vicarious win for them, as they could not get it done in the regular season. At least the UGA fans earned it.

I'm pulling for LSU simply because their coach, Beth Torina, was one of the Gator greats as a pitcher from 1997-2000. Glad to see Georgia beat FSU today, with the Noles committing 7 errors. Auburn is beating UCLA pretty easily right now. I think Michigan may be the best team in the tournament, but if Auburn gets decent pitching they are going to be hard to beat.

FSU played Jawja today? cool. thank goodness I come here for all my news, to include Jameis updates. ;)

Dawgs are hot right now, I wouldn't count them out. They will need that pitcher to keep dealing, since there isn't much after her.

Agreed. That is one of the two things that made that walk off HR so painful. We get that last batter out, who was down in the count 0-2, and we force a third game. I liked our chances
