Gator Baseball

and we keep beating the highly ranked teams after losing to the trash ones... The usual
As an Auburn fan, I think our pitching is legit. We have held Georgia to 5 total runs over the course of this entire weekend going into the 8th iinning today

I actually think Auburn may be one of the surprise teams in the SEC this year. SEC is always loaded with high quality teams, but Auburn seems to be making a move to be among the elite. Not being recognized as such in the polls yet, but let's see how the season plays out.

Swept Mizzou this weekend. All one run games

4-3
2-1
2-1

The offense has not improved. But unlike previous years, Sully is riding his starting pitching up to and well over 100 throws. That has resulted in winning close games.

Seems like he's starting to settle in on how he's going to use the bullpen. But we're also dealing with key injuries to Guthrie, India & Langworthy. The infield is weakened with Guthrie & India not able to play in the field and India got hit on the hand today to go with his injured forearm. Langworthy made a brief relief appearance today, 3 batters I think, but is still unable to hit. Hope those weekend arms hold up through the SEC grind, but so far they have been amazing.

Some Bullpen Possibilities Include:

RHP A.Bodrato Fr
RHP T.Dyson Fr
RHP B.McKay Fr
RHP N.Brown Fr
RHP C.Weinberger Fr
RHP N.Long Fr
RHP K.McMullen Fr

LHP G.Milchin Fr
LHP A.Baker Fr
LHP C.Maye Fr
LHP A.Langworthy Fr

Does anyone notice any pattern or common traits in that list?

He definitely recruited a lot of arms. Dyson, Brown, McMullen, Milchin, Baker & Longworthy have all gotten some innings in. Baker has been the least effective of those. Dyson has not gotten as much time on the mound but has looked good when he gets in there. Longworthy doesn't have velocity and counts on off seed stuff and had a couple of good outing before he got hurt. Brown has had some good outings, but Milchin has come on lately and may be a gut relied on more as the season progresses. No doubt O'Sullivan can recruit pitchers. He needs to recruit mo' better bats!!

Nope, you're just in the dust-bowl, while UF is in the SEC. You might be riding some donkey's ass pullin' a slow wagon, but not a Gators...
==========

Hey 'head-nailed-to-da-flor' anything to say for your sorry collapsing/dwindling conference?

Baseball America Top 25 Baseball Rankings: (4-3-17)

SEC (7)
7. AU
8. UF
11. SCa
13. UK
15. LSU
16. Ark
22. MsSt

UF OoC in state rival 24. FSU

Big12/10 (3)
3. TCU
6. TxTech
9. Choke-la-homa

To me, that looks about like the same difference between competing in the SEC, and the Big-whatever in football or B-Ball.

Basketball -- The Dance committee only let 5 SEC teams in, but 3 made it to the Elite-8, and 1 to the Final-4.
So, how'd and Chokers and the rest of the Big-whatever do in the Dance?

PS

2009 Football -- BCS-NC UF 24 - 14 Chokers (double-digit loss to a glorified FB)

2016 Basketball -- UF 84 - 52 @ Chokers (-32 at home)

O' my point was about the Bull-Pen in 2017. It's lay-O-ded with 11 freshmen.

So I would expect the pen to be better as the season goes along, and hopefully ready to go by the post season...

And I've been asking for a batting coach that's as good as the pitching coach since last season... o_O

We're getting pounded by Stetson tonight. 7-0 in the 3rd and we're already on our 3rd pitcher.

That's a cheezy way to avoid a nasty loss. o_O

So Kudo's to O'Sul for a very smart move on the now, very mad-hatters.... :D

Down to Tennessee 3-1 going to the bottom of the 4th. Faedo has 8 strikeouts, but gave up 5 hits in the top of the 4th. Guthrie back in at SS for the 1st time in weeks. Schwartz is out sick. Need the bats to come alive.

Now 6-5 bottom of 7th. Faedo chased off the mound
Faedo struck out 12 in 5.2 innings, but couldn't locate his fastball in key spots and gave up 10 hits, many of them with 2 outs. We were trailing 6-4 when he left the game. Got 1 run back in the 7th, now 6 more outs to tie or win the game. UT is 1-8 in the SEC.

These guys just aren't any good, must be plenty of other teams not any good to still be ranked this high with all these L's or we are just overrated from name...

and ut must be REALLY bad, because they just celebrated a world series from beating this bad team lmfao.

Lost 3-2 in 10 tonight. Three terrible base running mistakes cost us at least 2 runs. Byrne was the losing pitcher for the 2nd straight night. Looks great at times and then gives up key hits. With Sully suspending 2 veterans for the game (Schwartz, India & Liput) it seems like something is off with this team. They just look like they're not mentally with it. These supposed stars that were playing for MLB draft status may need to come back another year to prove their mettle. There is no way this Gator team should be ranked in the Top 20, let alone the Top 10.

And was it the 3rd base coach that stopped the runner after he pasted 3rd going full steam, or was it the runner than tried to stop and slid down before being put out? I was screaming at the screen more than once in that game!

Baseball America Top 25 - 4-10-17

16. Florida 21-11, 6-6 SEC (3-2 vs Top 25)
Weekend Series: 6-2

The Gators lost consecutive 10-inning games to lose a series to visiting Tennessee—a team that was 1-8 in conference play heading into the series. Florida bounced back to win Sunday’s series finale and is just two games out of first place in a tightly compact SEC East. But Florida will need to get back on track this week, as it travels to rival Florida State on Tuesday and Vanderbilt for the weekend.

While the season has been frustrating for me at times so far, the CWS is when they have to be ready to go. It's like making the dance in B-Ball.

And I can stand it because I'm loving watching our girls play softball! :D
While Lacrosse is kicking some Big East butts again...

Yeah, you're right that college baseball is all about the post season, but the injuries and pathetic hitting have this team looking very average. Veterans seem to be slowly coming around with the bats and the weekend starters are as good as anyone's. The bullpen has been pretty bad and for as highly touted as this freshman class was, no real stars have emerged yet like we've had in past years. Normally with O'Sullivan's recruits, 5-6 freshmen seem to contribute in a big way almost immediately and don't need time to adjust to college ball. Shore, Puk, Schwartz, Rivera, India, Guthrie, Liput just to name a few recent ones. But there's a lot of ball left and IF they get the bats going, get everybody healthy and find 3-4 guys who can consistently contribute from the bullpen, the talent is there to make a post season run and do some damage. We just may have to play a Super Regional away from Gainesville. And you're right about lacrosse and softball. Kelly Barnhill may end up being the best Gator pitcher in a long line of great ones and could go down as one of the GOAT in the sport if she keeps it up for 2+ more years. And don;t forget the Gymnastics NCAA championships this Friday & Saturday night on ESPNU.

UF up 10-5 on FSU in the bottom of the 4th, but they have bases loaded and no outs!! Pitching has been terrible for both teams. We made back to back errors to give up a run, but this could be a 4 hour game. UPDATE: Nick Horvath came out of the bullpen and KO'd FSU's 3, 4 & 5 hitters to get out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the bottom of the 4th to maintain the Gators 10-5 lead.

Gators hang on to beat FSU 10-7 to sweep the series with the Noles. Need a good weekend at Vandy, starting Thursday night.
