Florida @ Utah - 8/31 @ 8pm...

All jokes aside. Where are the Mertz fans now? We went cheap on a transfer QB and got a mediocre QB

With all of the embarrassing mistakes and penalties how can anyone think this coaching staff has made this team better?

Mertz played pretty well. INT not his fault and goodness he was under a ton of pressure. O-line is clearly a problem and Napier play calling is still bad. It was bad last year. Defense actually didn't play bad. 70 yd play and the 28 yard run were the only bad breakdowns.

Overall, I thought Mertz played well considering we had no running game and the O-line was horrible. Play calling could be called into question, but none of that matters if the offensive line can't execute, especially on keys downs where they failed over and over. The Tennessee game is now almost a MUST win if we're to have any kind of season.

Man, 3 silly penalties on 3rd and 1's all in Utah territory. And then we converted none of them after the penalty. Seriously, that last one illegal formation. WTF?? We were driving into the endzone.

Yes the defense looked ok but when you consider they had a third string walk on QB and a couple of other offensive weapons out. I’m afraid we might be in the woodshed more often than not.

Only gave up 50 yards in the 2nd half. Utah lone TD was after the turnover and they had short field. Can't play much better than that. First half gave up the two big plays.

With the schedule we're looking at, I honestly never expected this team to win 8 games. But if we have another losing season, my concern is that the recruiting class will fall apart.

I’ll check back on the defense after we’ve played Tennessee and Kentucky. But I hope you’re right.

I agree. Need to find a way to 6 wins. Going to be tough.

Yep. Agree. Utah is better up front than both vols and cats, but tn and ky have better skill players. Utah brought 4 oline starters back and 2 of them will get drafted this year. So we shall see.

Well if nothing else tonight I saw something I have never seen before and probably never will again. A penalty for two players on the field with the same number. And after a forth down punt.

Alright, after the gloom is over, we lost by 13 to a ranked team in a loud environment that is the two time defending conference champs and has gone 23-1 at home in recent years and has a head coach who has been there for over twenty years, 19 as head coach and before that DC under Meyer next to OC Mullen back in the day. We outgained them but momentum changing penalties by us throughout the game lost the game. I'm pleased with Mertz being in a hostile road game with subpar O-line and no running game support. If this game was home or neutral site, we win. I like our chances home vs UT and FSU....but @LSU, @USC, and Uga in JAX are L's if this is how we rack up penalties.

Utah had 270 total yards offense and 98 of that came off 2 plays. Defense did not generate much of a pass rush but we were much better in the 2nd half. Offensive line looks to be an issue. Mertz was consistently harassed and did not have much time, but still managed 333 yards through the air. The penalties were game changers. But don't want to hit the panic button just yet.

Y'all have a good one in Pearsall when they finally got him going. Even though they are PAC12, Utah is a tough to team to play at home with a really good coach the first game out.

Mertz is a frickin joke. We didn't even convert a 3 rd down until late in the 3 rd Q I think.
