The Florida Gators were in the win column Tuesday night as Florida knocked off the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 8-4. The Wildcats struck first with a three-run first inning but the Gators were able to come from behind and defeat a quality team in BCU.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Yoel Tejeda Jr. got the start for the Florida Gators. Tejeda Jr. had a rough first inning after Robert Moya hit a three-run home run. However, Tejeda rebounded nicely and finished with a solid outing. Tejeda threw four innings allowing two hits, three unearned runs, and two walks.

JUCO transfer right-hander Clete Hartzog came in relief for Tejeda and earned his first win as a Florida Gator. Hartzog threw one inning allowing one hit, one run, three walks, and one strikeout.

Side-arm relief pitcher Nick Ficarrotta received Hartzog and pitched very well in his outing. Ficarrotta pitched two innings allowing one hit, no runs, one walk, one hit by pitch, and two strikeouts.

Two southpaw relievers pitched for Florida in the eighth and ninth inning. Freshman Chris Arroyo threw in the eighth as he struggled with two walks but kept the Wildcats before scoring. Sophomore Philip Abner also struggled with control as his first seven pitches were balls. He would adjust and record the final three outs to secure the win.

The Florida Gators hit the ball well against the Wildcats’ pitching staff. The Gators scored eight runs on eleven hits. Left fielder Wyatt Langford went 2-3 with a double, triple, and two runs scored.

Veteran shortstop Josh Rivera continues to rake for the Gators’ offense. Rivera went 2-4 on Tuesday night with a stolen base and a run scored. BT Riopelle went 1-4 with a two-run home run and Ty Evans went 2-4 with a triple to right center.

What’s next?

The Florida Gators will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee tomorrow for a three-game series versus the Tennessee Volunteers. The Gators will play against the Volunteers and all three games will be nationally televised.

RHP Brandon Sproat is expected to be on the mound for the Florida Gators in the series opener. Tennessee will hand the ball to star right-handed pitcher Chase Dollander on Thursday night. The first pitch for the Florida-Tennessee series opener is on Thursday at 8 pm on ESPNU.
