bowl placement: Alabama getting knocked out of playoff set off a chain reaction. Ole Miss nor Bama was selected by Citrus. Ole Miss nor Mizzou wanted to play in under construction Liberty Bowl as #14 and #19 ranked teams with 5-3 SEC records - which UF was 4-4 and unranked (would have been ok with one ending up in Music City Bowl and other in Reliaquest/Gator). SEC sided with its higher ranked/standings teams over Gator Bowl preference and UF placing Ole Miss in Gator even with UF beating Ole Miss. Mizzou gets Music City as they desired (ultimately doing UF in for Gator because Music City was other potential location for Ole Miss). Liberty Bowl likely did not see UF as fit for selling tickets in Memphis, while potentially UF did not see as fit either. Thus, Arkansas gets selected for regionally convenient match that will sell a lot of tix and UF goes to lower level Gasparilla Bowl that was better regional match and will sell more tix. Gator Bowl wanted UF as there are worries about Ole Miss fans traveling or interest in game along with opt outs.
