SEC schedule is brutal. Good lord. All the top teams in the conference.

Football and basketball are the same way. As I have mentioned before the SEC has a grudge against us with scheduling. They are apparently tired of us owning the conference.

Gators Baseball Debuts at No. 10 In Preseason Ranking

The Florida Gators enter the 2025 season inside the top 10 while looking for a third-straight College World Series appearance. Head coach Kevin O’Sullivan and the Gators finished the last campaign 36-30, having a very up and down season throughout. However, they still managed a College World Series appearance with much of the credit going to star Jac Caglianone, who broke many program records including the career home run record.

Impressive if a true freshman is going to start at 1b. Excited for Yost to come back healthy. D1 baseball said K Jones could be a star in CF. Lots of talent. Much deeper team than last year. Lineup as well as pitching. The rub is obviously we lose Cags and Neely, who were far and away our best players. I would like to see much less swing and miss from our lineup. Need Kurland and Heyman to hit like their freshman years. If Donay can make contact he’ll hit a bunch of balls out. He’s an impressive athlete. Excited to see what these guys can do.

The Gator's former relief pitcher record holder Bryne (35 saves) is returning this season as an Assistant coach. YeeeHaw! Bryne was one of the iG's all time favorite players. Good guy, great pitcher....

Pretty awesome baseball is back! Love to see us build some confidence this weekend. Air Force typically aren’t pushovers but would like to these guys show what they can do. Big thing is if Peterson can control the game.

Would be nice if we can stack some wins in non conference and midweek this year.

Also the tourneys at Puerto Rico and Arlington look like fun. Pretty loaded fields.

Yeah those Air Force guys can "fly" around the bases.

Just as long as they don't 'fly off the handle' in the process..... 😉

From the long ago 'old daze' in the military there's this marching call out:
Zoomie Zoomie Don't Be Blue,
Tinkerbell's A Fairy Too....
😁

Impressive pitching. We have to be leading the nation in strikeouts after the first 3 games. Batting order not as power laden as last year, but plenty of good hitters up and down the lineup and still lots of competition for 2-3 starting positions. Quality depth. I think this team is going to be better than last year's.

ocala, I don't know the strength of last years 1st 3 game series opponent, nor what the Gator's did against them, so this is not an argument on how power laden this years team is/was in comparison. You can make that comparison if you'd like by posting their stats. This is just a positive show of what they've done in their first 3 games. I'm impressed.

UF 28 - 5 AF (-23, about a 9-2 Ave)

In just their first 3 Game Series:

12 Players have scored a run.

9 Players with at least 1 RBI.

8 Players with at least a .333 Ave.

7 Players with at least a .700 SLG%

5 Players with at least a .400 Ave and a .700 SLG%.

4 Players already have a HR (Donay one each game for 3 so looking a little like Cag)
=====

Brody Donay - AB 10, H 7, Ave .700, HR 3, SLG% 1.800

Hayden Yost --- AB 9, H 6, Ave .667, HR 0 , SLG% 1.000

Justin Nadeau - AB 4, H 3, Ave .750, HR 0, SLG% 1.000

Bobby Boser -- AB 11, H 5, Ave .455, HR 1, SLG% .818

Colby Shelton - AB 10, H 4, Ave .400, HR 1, SLG% .700
=====

Other mentionalbles:

Kyle jones -------- Ave .500
Landon Stripling - HR 1, SLG% .833
Kyle Jones -------- SLG % .750

Two things it definitely looked like they are emphasizing is throwing strikes and being aggressive on the basepaths. These guys have stuff so let them swing at it. And probably sully realizes they’re going to have to pull runs from everywhere to make up for losing Cags.

Great start to the year.

Coach O'Sullivan used a bunch of different players in the first 3 games and indications are that several positions are still open competitions. I will say that Colby Shelton at SS, Cade Kurland at 2b, Luke Heyman at C, Bobby Boser at 3b and Brody Donay at DH/c are probably set in their position. Ty Evans is probably safe in RF, but didn't play Saturday and so other guys got a shot in RF. True freshman Brendan Lawson had won the 1st base job pre-season, but struggled opening weekend. I think Sully will stick with him a good while, but you never know how freshmen will do against real competition, but this kid is obviously very talented. In CF Stetson transfer Kyle Jones got the nod opening night as leadoff hitter and went 2-4, but didn't play Saturday. That seems to be his job to lose, but JU transfer Justin Nadeau had a good Saturday and could challenge for an outfield slot. Plus he can play 2b or 3b if needed. Miami transfer Blake Cyr seems to have won the LF position. He played all 3 games, going 3-8 with 2 walks and 2 HBP. But he made a couple of base running mistakes and misplayed a couple of balls in the outfield, so we'll see how it goes. The OF star of the weekend was sophomore Hayden Yost, who came in as a defensive replacement Friday, then started both games Saturday, going 6-9, 3 doubles, a walk and 4-4 in stolen bases. He is going to get more opportunities in the pre-SEC season and it won't surprise me if he ends up winning one of those outfield slots. I'm sure other guys will be given chances as the season moves along, but this team is deeper than last year's and while we don't have Jac C, I think it will be a more balanced lineup 1-9. The weekend starting rotation seems solid and set and now we'll see who will be used as midweek starters and who he's going to rely on coming out of the bullpen. Lots of talent/depth, but much of it is unproven. I'm looking forward to another really good year. #10 in the nation starting off, but 5 SEC teams and FSU are ranked ahead of us. Brutal once again.

Last year we lost our season opener to St. Johns 9-5, then had the next 2 games with them rained out. We had a very mediocre regular season, going only 28-26 during the regular season, 13-17 in the SEC and got swept by FSU. We lost our first game in the SEC tournament, barely got an NCAA bid and got sent to Stillwater, OK, where we upset Nebraska, lost to Oklahoma State, then beat Nebraska again and Oklahoma State twice to win the regaional. We then went to Clemson and upset the #3 team in 2 straight in the Super Regionals, then went to Omaha and made it to the semi-finals. Other than Jac Cags having a great year, it wasn't a good season for Gator baseball until the NCAA tournament, where we got hot. I'm thinking this year will be much better, but we'll see.
