FIRE GRANTHAM

Guy can't recruit either. Dan needs to send a message to the program right now, and can his buddy....

I said before the season I saw us going 8-4, 7-5 if things went sideways. That looks pretty spot on.

Also said we would finish 8th in the SEC in total defense and 43 in the nation. After today's game we are giving up 338.4 YPG, which would put us 8th in the SEC and 41st nationally. Of course, the later games will move this a little, but I feel I called it fairly accurately, and really really hate being right. I would rather we were great and I had to eat crow.

The good news is it doesn't look like my biggest fear is going to come to pass. I wanted Grantham to either turn into a great DC or be terrible and get canned. What I didn't want was for him to be just barely good enough to keep his job another year. We are never going to progress until we get someone competent in that position.

Unless there is a total defensive meltdown grantham will keep his job. Our last 5 games we will be favored in 4, and of those 4 none have world beating offenses. Looking like 8-4.

Georgia has a much better offense than LSU. When they rack up 600 yards and 56 points on us, you will feel differently.

I meant none of the 4 teams that we will be favored against will have a top notch offense. Georgia, being the 5th game will run all over grantham. So basically 8-4 and grantham catches a break with the teams we play outside of dawgs.

Despite my grumbling about Grantham, I don't "celebrate" anyone losing their job.....but at the same time I can't say I would shed any tears if it happened in this case.

I think it's just a logical step to take and it's quite amazing that he's lasted this long.

I'm out and about in town ATM, what was Mullen like with the reporters after the game?

I'm still trying to figure out what insta sees in 3rd and Grantham that at least I don't.
Seriously, the players on defense talent isn't horrible. But the secondary runs around like they've never been coached before. The defense is capable of making plays, sometimes they show it. But they never show that have the first inkling of fundamentals, either the line, linebackers, or the secondary???? They are NEVER in position. Tackling is a joke at every position. Grantham is still shuffling players in and out when the other team snaps the ball, they don't even know where to line up half the time. This has been going since he arrived. Today LSU had a guy lined up that wasn't even covered. Everybody has a bad day. but it's become a habit every week. It was almost this bad last year, maybe the same, but the offense rarely ever failed to score. Think about last year. Excluding the bowl game that nobody cared about, including the players. we lost games where we scored 46, 34, and 38 points. That's not Gator defense, that's a joke.

Right now. In the locker room.

Not because the defense was bad. Everybody can have an off day.

Fire him because LSU ran the same play 30 times and he had no answer for it. None.

Florida deserves a DC who isn't the worst coach in the world.

Disagree with me @instaGATOR, I DARE YOU.
It’s time to fire Mullen. He is one and three versus LSU. He is going to be one and three versus Georgia. He is two and two versus Kentucky for Christ sake. Our recruiting classes are never in the top five. He just isn’t the guy for you Florida. This is his fourth season and we’re about to go 8-4 at best

Very well summarized. Frankly, we could have absolute studs in every defensive position and still be fighting for our lives in games against average teams.

The defense was not prepared for the LSU running game. All I read during the week was how they were concerned about Max Johnson's passing game. They steamrolled us in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Much greater effort and preparation from Orgeron and his staff and from Mullen and his boys. Our O-line didn't play well, either. Just outcoached all the way around, from game preparation to game day execution and adjustments. Pathetic.

Mullen hired him and you want the DC fired...

Yea he did....and people LAST year wasn't happy about how "hockey dorey" Mullen seemed about Grantham.

Even the best of coaches are not immune to making a bad hire. I'm not going to necessarily blame a coach for a bad hire, but I will blame a coach if he sees the results against him and let's it continue.

Mullen gets more slack because he's earned more credibility than Grantham as a coach.

Mullen won't get fired. But he needs to make a change.

You forgot to add that Cousin Eddie is 2-7 vs last 9 P5 opponents.

I shed no tears for someone utterly incompetent in their position, and I also shed no tears for someone with millions in the bank. Grantham is both.

Well unfortunately my takeaway is the players have lost faith in Grantham but Mullen has no intention of doing what should have been done after last season...

Pretty sure the AD can fire anyone on any coaching staff he wants, maybe needs the President's ok, but either way, Mullen's intentions won't mean a lot. In fact, Mullen may ask the AD to force this to happen so he doesn't lose Grantham as a friend. He can say "I backed you to the hilt, buddy, but the AD and President made the call. Nothing I could do."

These coaches are control freaks, just in their nature. I just don't see a change coming this season. Then we finish 8-4 with the d playing decent against lesser comp and we are rinse and repeat next season.

AD says "I'm firing Grantham. You don't like it, there's the door." You can't do that to a Saban, but you sure can to a coach with a 8-4 or worse record. Besides, we all know the real power is the alumni base, they want him gone, he goes.

Sounds about right. 8-9 wins a year, with an occasional 10 wins may be the ceiling for Mullen & Co. Next year we have 7 home games, but we open with Utah, not a gimmee, plus Kentucky & LSU in Gainesville, Georgia in Jax, away games in Knoxville & College Station. 4 losses next year may be about right, too.

Vols on the rise, A&M has tons of talent, dawgs will bring a ton back next season, I agree, 8-4 feels about right next year. Mullen has stabilized the program for sure, but he's not going to win you a natty.

Hopefully today was a good dose of reality. Get Richardson ready for next year by playing him now. If that light switch didn't go off in Mullin's head today it might never will. Shit can Grantham, the program goes on the upswing. I honestly can't remember Gator defenses being this bad, even in their darkest days in the late 80's. Even when Gary Darnell took over for Galen Hall, the defense didn't suck. But their offense couldn't line up and score against air in mock drills against tackling dummies.

I am under no illusion that it’s possible for him to be fired probably not even next year, but he isn’t the guy.
If you are looking for the guy who is going to take us to 12 wins a year and be in the playoffs every season, I honestly don't think that guy exists. And frankly, if does exist, and he is that good, how would we get him, and then, how would we keep him?

Let's face reality. UF is not a school willing to put in the level of investment needed to be elite. We pay the head coach pretty well, now, but the assistants are well down the scale, the recruiting budget is low, etc. UF uses a lot of football money to fund general education. For some reason UF administration thinks the school is primarily here to educate people, not as a focal point for sports teams.

All that money they put back into the school starts to evaporate if football is garbage. We would keep him by paying him, as you noted we pay our head coach well enough. You are also suffering from a Foley era mentality. We’re clearly willing to spend more money,!we just spent $300 million on baseball and football facilities combined.
I’m not looking to be in the playoffs every year. I’m just not looking to go .250 versus all of the good teams on our schedule every single year. The man is one and three versus LSU. The man is going to be one and three versus Georgia. And he is two and two verses Kentucky. That isn't acceptable.

i’m not really ready to submit to your sort of defeatism yet

Good news is we have a BYE to sort things out. If Richardson ends up getting the nod, then we have two weeks to prepare him AND Georgia will only have limited film on him. Basically one half of football in a come from behind scenario and a handful of situational plays.

you would think, to a degree, the LSU film won't be much help. As much as I hate Grantham, I just can't imagine that Georgia will be able to take advantage of the insane breakdowns in the front 7 we had yesterday. We HAVE to have an answer for that.

Also, Georgia could easily be overconfident coming into the cocktail party. And a QB like Richardson is going to make things difficult. We still have some serious skill players, just got to get it to them.

Just saying, when you look at how this season has been, there's a chance we pull this one out.

If the team hasn't checked out I think we may have a chance despite how the season has gone. I doubt even Richardson will be able to run much on that defense though with how that NT clogs everything up making it easy on the LBs. I wish Richardson had more time under his belt so he could just roll out like Cam Newton used to do and either find an open guy or take off. Don't think the more restricted designed plays will work great against Georgia after they adjust to what they see.

Counter tre, power, or what LSU was running GF counter are down schemes with pullers looking to kick out and the second puller wrap up through. High school defensive coordinators all over this nation Friday night were defending the same exact play and scheme.

As a defensive end when the tackle blocks down you squeeze with him and look for the puller coming at you. You attack the pullers downfield shoulder and blast him. It is called a wrong arm or a wrong shoulder technique. You create a pile where the RB wants to go so he has to bounce it outside where your linebacker should be scraping to. Keeping the RB from going north and south allows your safeties and other linebackers to flow to the play.

Again, tens of thousands of high school defensive coordinators were doing this all Friday night all over this nation. And an SEC defensive coordinator can't make this simple adjustment.
