Fans of other cfb teams sure are being critical of Florida’s week zero performance...

We didnt play well but at the same time many of the errors are correctable. My biggest concerns are the same after the game as they were before the game. Oline and safety play. So nothing changed for me. I will say I was pleasantly surprised by the play of Ventrell Miller.

Anytime you can beat an in-state rival while having a -3 TO margin you just move on and take the W.

I was 100 percent happy with the W.

Any UF fan who gets caught up worrying about how we won should think about how godawful a loss would have been. And think about how much better this outcome is.

Miami is pretty good, I think. I bet that's one of the top 3 defenses we play this year, and Diaz obviously had some inside info. on how to bother Mullen.

The running game has me a little nervous - not too many offensive linemen putting hats on LBs at the 2nd level. We cant afford that rushing number to drop to like 150 yards a game in SEC play. It would result in Franks Driskeling some unlike 2018.

I agree that was the one thing that worried me a bit. I was hoping for South Carolina/Vandy-style second-half running dominance.

My hope is that our struggles there were more attributable to Miami's defense and Diaz' familiarity with Mullen.

It was a little of everything: UM had at Top 5 defense from last year, Manny still coaches and schemes for the defense, first game, new Oline etc. I feel way better about the game in retrospect

Honestly, it is interesting how everybody wants to piss on our parade and say how terrible we looked...

There were a lot a miscues, sure, but there were also some flashes of execution that were damn good as well...the Hammond pass was perfect, being in position to jump on the muff, the fact that the D-line didn’t quit at the end given the numerous chances Miami had...all good...

We clearly should have played a flawless game in Game 1 against those scoundrels in a crazy hot and electric atmosphere...all the sudden every other fan base is like, “well you didn’t play like National Champions”...it’s like “no shit, really???”

sadgator actually was pretty pleased with the effort and the win...it’s kinda like comparing a Victoria’s Secret model to the super-hot check out girl at your local Publix. The Publix chick ain’t ready to walk the catwalk, but her ass sure does look good in a thong...

I posted in the other thread that advanced statistics show a +3.5 turnover margin, which Miami had, is worth 14-17 points. We were favored by 7.5 and turned it over 4 times, had over 100 yards in penalties, and won by 4. So we played the worst game imaginable and still almost covered. The overreactions are funny.

Don't think I would trust any poll that has Miami and FSU in the Top 25...

Miami is not a good team.

TBD. Their defense is very good and has been for three years. They lost games last year because their offense and special teams were both two of the worst in the country.

And how ‘good’ they are is all relative anyway. Even if they’re not great they’re better than most of the FCS and G5 schools a lot of teams will be playing this weekend. People schedule cupcakes week 1 for a reason...to work out all the issues. We didn’t get that luxury.

GwinnettDawg,

Agree that UGA has a good schedule this year; but both ND & aTm between the hedges, so that helps Dawgs quite a bit. Gators with Auburn at home, LSU on the road, and UGA in Jax also have a tough schedule.

This year's schedules for South Carolina, & aTm absolutely suck !

Opinions vary, but most neutral observers agree that S Car & aTm have 2019's worst schedules. Each of them plays a full SEC schedules, plus both of them play both Bama & Clemson; aTm, as you noted also plays UGA on the road.

Jimbo will earn his money this year !

Gators & most of the top SEC teams are toughening up their schedules. Gators have added Texas & Miami. If Diaz stays at Miami, they will be a good team by our 2024/2025 H & H series. FSU under Taggert will either get better, or FSU will get a new coach.

Except FSUcks has lost to them 2 years in a row.
And the 2 years before that you won those 2 games by a combined 6 pts...

Do you people even know what the ESPN's FPI Ratings are, or what they encompass?

I suspect most who follow football do. But there is no miracle formula that can accurately predict catastrophic injuries, growth curve of young players, and many other intangibles. They are fun to peruse, but like I said, 4 or 5 games in, team tendencies and their effectiveness appear more concrete.

In other words, there is a reason we play the games.

Im not knocking UF for doing it. I thought UF dominated the game but just gave away 2 fumbles. Miami got so lucky falling on their fumbles. It was clear that UF was the better team.

FSU is worse.....by far........

I think we're about even. I havent seen our version yet since we havent played yet but the last 2 yrs we have literally been even. Dont rly think major leaps have been made on either side. 2 yrs ago they hit a hail mary on us and last yr we had the go ahead td but it got called back on a bad call. I dont think we are good either.

Honestly I blame the media more than our team's less than stellar debut. ESPN and everyone else associated with the sport built this up so much in the week(s) prior, just in anticipation of the start of the season. We were the favored team so they were making these leaps of imagination such as Franks being a darkhorse Heisman candidate this year. This game really truly felt like it was a national title game with all of the buildup and focus on just these 2 teams. Why was there zero press coverage on Hawaii-Arizona anyways just because they played a couple hours later than us? Oh yeah that's right, they weren't on ESPN, and I still can't find that game anywhere online to watch as a result. It's like a media blackout and everything was polarized right on us.

Pretty hard for a team to take in week 0 and I FULLY bet this will happen next year as well with whatever week 0 teams get chosen. The expectation levels that were set were like the nation was expecting to see 2 teams come out at their peak of the season and play for it all, then people were surprised when they saw two teams struggling to shake the rust of the offseason off and dealing with high adrenaline and emotions on the players who were making mistakes.

UF ranks No. 6 in the SP+ (not the same as the FPI)

Bill Connelly of ESPN has released an updated SP+ ranking. As Connelly defines the SP+, “it’s a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency.” Recent history, returning production, and recent recruiting all factor into the equation according to Connelly, who also added, “I attempted to account for as many offseason transfers, dismissals and injuries as possible in the below numbers.”

Happy with the win.

SadGator is right about one thing. Miami is a team that usually finds a way to piss in our cornflakes. This time they didn't.

I really thought we would whup 'em. But I also thought the pressure would cause the Frosh to throw some int's. Funny thing is, for all the sacks, we didn't have a lot of pressures. We either dropped him or he had time to throw. There weren't many plays where he ran around and got frazzled. And they had a knack for falling on their fumbles when we did knock it out.

Overall a weird game.

But hey, we won, and we now have three weeks to prep for another SEC game, which is @ Kentucky, where we have won 19 times in a row, last losing there in 1979, and have beaten overall 31 of the past 32, then home for UT, whom we have defeated 7 times in a row at home and 13 of the past 14 overall. Feel pretty good about those. So we have lots of time to get ready for Auburn Oct 5th.

I think this is pretty much spot on

.....it’s easier for fans to focus on a rivals’ foibles and faults, when they have yet to see the same of their own team yet
