ESD Thread

But in reality, I always had to carry his lazy, stupid, gutless, no character azz, he was just the woman-less, daughter-less punching bag.... (prolly jus like now)

Edit for the turn-around...

Dannygator is my all time favorite Gator fan.
He's a loving man with a fine character, and he always does the right thing, even when it costs him money in his businesses.
I was out of line before, but I've been adjusted to see things much better now daze...

Not a bad group. Helps ease a fairly crappy day for FSU. With Miami and UF in transition I would have expected the noles to clean up.

I think we have the 13th ranked class in composite but it should have been much higher. We were like 1 for 13 on the day with our prized recruit giving us the middle finger for an fcs school ran by our best defender ever.....

its beyond impressive. Nice to finally have elite defenders again. Now he needs to up some O talent on NSD and via portal
Yes did very good on the defensive side of the ball today. Maybe their will be a bit more focus on the offensive side of the ball for NSD and the portal.

Today was about as good as you could have hoped for going. Coach on for 1.5 weeks without major ties to the SE and without SEC ties. We held serve about about everyone and added 2 top 100 guys. I mean - that's big.

Oh yeah we have 1/2 of a coaching staff right now.

Impressive - lots to do and see if he can keep the kill ratio on recruiting this high.

I think that's the most impressive - he went head to head on at least 4 top guys and won 3/4. I'ts a super small sample size but the kill rate was aweseom.

Et tu Brute’?

HCs are getting paid eight figures now primarily for their ability to recruit.

With the NIL and the portal, shouldn’t we expect the market to begin to reflect the real value of those involved? Some of these top recruits are worth millions per year. Instead of one head coach getting $10 million because he "can recruit,” why not have the same money go to top recruits and use what’s leftover to hire an Xs and Os coach.

I wouldn’t be surprised if HC salaries peaked this year and actually start falling now that it’s a semi-open market. I’m curious how Saban handles this. He is the GOAT of the last era, but everything has changed. Does he retire or does he successfully figure out how to make the new rules work for him?

Yes, because none of those 3 programs can get their crap together. nolies had an opportunity to capitalize and failed. Keep in mind that the rosters of all 3 schools are still mostly made up of Florida kids.

I still don't see how this is a failure. Even after losing Hunter, which I don't think Norvell could have done anything about, this is a decent class for a program that has suffered four consecutive losing seasons.

I agree. Failure is too strong of a word. I would just say surprised it wasn't much much higher.

Kiffin isn’t that good of recruiter. He really doesn’t like it that much. That is one reason why I didn’t want Kiffin here at UF. I think Norvell and his staff are decent recruiters but he had UF and Miami basically without coaches and the ACC way way down and it is his 3rd class. Honestly he really didn’t capitalize on all those things that went his way. Norvell has had 3 classes and hasn’t had a top 10 class yet. The issue Norvell may have now in state is their is 2 better recruiters in Billy & Mario & better staffs than his unless Norvell upgrades his staff.

Napier is gonna have to get a QB out of the portal I think for the exact reason you mentioned. I think it is highly likely that one of Del Rio & Kitna hit the transfer portal as well.
If you've got nothing to work with on the current roster, then you absolutely have to go to the portal for a quality QB, if that makes sense, or you won't be able to play a game unless you just go wildcat with the RB's taking the snaps.

Anthony Richardson 6-4 236 rsFr **** - Gainesville, FL

Carlos Del Rio-Wilson 6-2 225 rsFr **** - Atlanta, GA

Jalen Kitna 6-4 210 rsFr *** - Tacoma, WA / Burleson TX

Kyle Engel 6-0 190 rsSo ** W-O - Ft. Lauderdale, FL (STA)
Prep: Helped St. Thomas Aquinas to the 2018 FHSAA Class 7A State Championship Runner-up. He completed 67% of his passes with 9 TD's, ZERO Ints. as a senior.

I guess that one or all could bail before next season, but I haven't heard that any of those 4 intend to leave....

Maybe this is just one those glass half empty/full situations.

And I don’t know how significant recruiting class rankings are when everyone you recruited can just hit the transfer portal later.

Florida is lucky that Norvell is not good at recruiting.

Everything looked good going into the day, our OC announces on NSD that he's leaving which causes all of our offensive players to back away, Hunter pulls the rabbit out of the hat.... et tu brute?....turns out he had a Mullen like class without Mullen like coaching abilities

Dillingham is a good recruiter but not a good coach IMO. Norvell is likely a better recruiter than Mullen but certainly no where near as good in the X’s and O’s department.

Recruiting is still the most important. Transfer portal is big now too but you can’t build a championship team through the portal. How many players do you see Bama, Clemson, UGA & Ohio St picking up in the portal? Not very many because the kids in the portal aren’t better than any of the starters and key backups that they already have. It can be used for a good stop gap and a quick fix but it isn’t good for long term success. Not if the goal is to win National Titles anyways.
