Professor : You are a Christian, aren’t you, son ?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor: So, you believe in GOD ?
Student : Absolutely, sir.
Professor : Is GOD good ?
Student : Sure.
Professor: Is GOD all powerful ?
Student : Yes.
Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn’t. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?
(Student was silent.)
Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, young fella. Is GOD good?
Student : Yes.
Professor: Is satan good ?
Student : No.
Professor: Where does satan come from ?
Student : From … GOD …
Professor: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student : Yes.
Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?
Student : Yes.
Professor: So who created evil ?
(Student did not answer.)
Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don’t they?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor: So, who created them ?
(Student had no answer.)
Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?
Student : No, sir.
Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?
Student : No , sir.
Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smelt your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?
Student : No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.
Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?
Student : Yes.
Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.
Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.
Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Professor: Yes.
Student : And is there such a thing as cold?
Professor: Yes.
Student : No, sir. There isn’t.
(The lecture theater became very quiet with this turn of events.)
Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.
(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)
Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn’t darkness?
Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn’t it? In reality, darkness isn’t. If it is, well you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?
Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man ?
Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.
Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?
Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.
Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?
Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.
Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
(The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.)
Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?
(The class was in uproar.)
Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?
(The class broke out into laughter. )
Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?
(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.)
Professor: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.
Student : That is it sir … Exactly ! The link between man & GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving.
P.S.
I believe you have enjoyed the conversation. And if so, you’ll probably want your friends / colleagues to enjoy the same, won’t you?
Forward this to increase their knowledge … or FAITH.
By the way, that student was EINSTEIN.

First of all I believe in God. Second of all I believe in God as matter of faith. Third Albert Einstein having this conversation with his professor was De-Bunk’d back in 2004. Fourth the story first appeared in 1997 and at that time it was not attributed to Albert Einstein, that was added by somebody some years later. There’s also a distinct fallacy in the argument being attempted, because you cannot see, feel, touch or smell the brain, but you can hear the brain in the conversation. The production of language, particularly in a pattern of coherent thoughts, is direct evidence of the brain through one of the five senses.

PS I always like the story though.

By the way Albert Einstein did actually say this……in 1925, Too a young promising student.

I think many have the conclusion that Einstein had. With that said, I also believe the fact is Gods thoughts are in His Word. Many state the word was written by men, but the fact is it was inspired by God through His Spirit which He used those men for His purposes. Once those who faithfully follow Christ submit their life to Gods purposes, they will be led by God for his purposes in their life. Faith is the beginning of that journey & many faithful people have experienced many wonderful things they never thought would have been in their life. Many have also endured persecution for their faith in following Christ, but His Word also tells us that if we are living for Him, that will surely happen, not many want to sign up for that, and only the truly faithful will endure that and not fall away.
This is a great question OP & a change of pace from a chaotic world.

I am probably best described as an “agnostic theist.”

My perspective changed when I considered that if we are nothing more than deterministic chemical reactions, why are we aware of anything? That we are aware of anything at all implies to me that something about us must exist outside of a strictly materialist universe. Otherwise, it seems there would be nothing to experience sensation or awareness.

Whether that “something” should be called a soul, or a higher power, I don’t know. But, it’s not nothing. So it must be something.

Note: This is something I posted a few months ago. My beliefs haven’t changed, so I’m reusing it.

That’s a start my friend, you’re not closed to the possibility, it’s only those who reject that have no hope.

Well, if you believe in a higher power you might as well follow Christ if you want eternal life as opposed to eternal death/suffering. I wish damnation on no one. God Bless

So roughly a little over 2 billion Muslims that believe in God are all going to hell, mostly due to Nothing more than location of birth?

Not true. They had a choice.
As a trained anthropologist, I object. You are over 98% likely to believe in the God of your cultural upbringing than you are to change to a different fundamental cultural belief. And, to be fair, the God of Christians is also the God of Muslims and the God of Jews...............speaking culturally, of course.

Now take that a step further, as @EvilWayz does, and the God(s) of the Hindu's if much further apart culturally than the God of the Christians/Jews/Islamic peoples..................HOWEVER, both faiths have a flood story as well as several other similarities.

So at what point to shared cultural similarities and beliefs deviate into a selection bias where one version of the faith claims salivation superiority over the others, and why? Is it related to something that God wants, or, is it more related to something economics wants?

And before I am asked, I am Catholic, attended 12 years of Catholic schools, but I am not a strict monotheist as a cultural construct.

Do you know the know the covenent?
Oh, there is a covenant myth (cultural phrase, not meant to imply it is not true) in nearly every faith, to include Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and the Hindu faith.

Christianity is growing in Afghanistan and the middle east and China much faster than anywhere on the planet.

There is only ONE GOD. Can you tell me another?

Many more than that if you tack on anyone that doesn't follow Jesus Christ. Here's the good news, you don't have to believe anything to go to hell. It's the easy way out but the lousiest return investment.

So you think one can get to Heaven without believing that Jesus is the son of God who died for their sins?

There's a caveat based on geography?

Believing in something bigger than you is, IMO, extremely important for not just your life, but society as a whole. But, organized religion has killed more people in history, by far, more than anything else , it preys on the poor and indigent as an opioid for the masses and its thrives in hypocrisy so because of that I'm an agnostic. This is just my opinion in case it makes some people get angry

We might all do better to distinguish between what is man made, religion, and what is made of God, which is that which we are all likely not qualified to understand.

1) Yes
2) I believe so as a matter of my faith
3) Yes geography determines your cultural upbringing. Had you been born in Iraq, there is a 99% change you would be a Muslim right now. Does that mean you would be "wrong" or "doomed to hell" because of your birth and upbringing?
4) Mulsims and Jews are equally guilty of the same cultural bias. Many of them think you are condemned to hell too.

Agree to disagree.

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
