Did you know that in 1989 we completed 90 total passes in 12 games

Yes.With Donald Douglas at QB, Florida tried to be a wishbone team and go away from being a 'passing' team. Quarterbacks Kyle Morris, Lex Smith, etc. were too inconsistent to run the passing game; also, I think some of the football players (like an unknown player named Shane Mathews) were suspended for the year for gambling on ?college football games.

It was a shock to all Gator fans when Steve Spurrier later installed 'The Fun-n-Gun' in 1990. The rest is history.

That was my first year as a UF student....Emmitt was a damn beast that year.

If Florida did not land Emmitt Smith, I always thought that Florida would have been a 2-9/1-10 type of program from 1987-89. Smith almost single-handedly put the offense on his back(or legs) and helped keep Florida from being a losing team. From 1980 to 2012, Florida had an amazing streak of (33 years) winning seasons/non-losing seasons (6-6).

Emmitt Left, Emmitt Right, Emmitt up the middle, Punt, play defense.

I recall a lot of 10-7 type games. Gross football.

Against Auburn that year, Gator QB Donald Douglas was 1/7 for 4 yards. The Gators lost 10-7 on a last second TD pass by Auburn. Not surprisingly, this coincides with Muschamp's years he was living in Gainesville.

And don't forget how the season was blemished. First Galen Hall was forced to resign for NCAA violations, and then several players were suspended for gambling, incl starting QB at the time Kyle Morris. Other notables suspended in taht scandal include Shane Matthews and Brady Ackerman :p

I was a little to young to watch/remember E Smith as a Gator but I loved watching him running the ball in Dallas for my Cowboys...wish I could have seen him play college. One of my favorite players of all time. #emmittzone

Yep Emmitt WAS the offense in those days. Think he got hurt in Memphis game in '88....not surprisingly lost to the Tigers and then didn't even break 10 points against Vandy in the next game.

sadgator actually attended that game in person. The amount of bottles and sh!t coming out of the stands at Jordan Hare was insane. If sadgator is not mistaken there is a pass for negative yardage in the stat line...or perhaps it felt that way. We just did not throw the ball back then.

I was there too. The auburn fans were awful. They threw things the entire game.
