Bits and Pieces on Gator Sports...

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida opens the 2019 season ranked 8th in the 1st edition of the Amway Coaches Poll, released Thursday by USA Today.

Florida is one of 6 SEC teams and the only Power 5 school in the state of Florida in the preseason poll. :p

The Gators are scheduled to take on three teams in the preseason poll this season; No. 3 UGly, No. 6 LSwho and No. 16 Allbarn...

Hey fevered brains, I've got that 'official' Huggins update for ya...

*An accusation of defensive back John Huggins choking a female tutor last October has been handled and has nothing to do with his current status (not at practice), Mullen said. Huggins missed 5 games last year as part of his punishment. Huggins was not charged and the tutor did not press charges at the time.

A time for his return to practice was not given.

* Safety Jeawon Taylor (shoulder) should be cleared to return to full-contact in practice by end of week.

*Three true freshman defensive backs are going to play this season.

~ Note, the last 3 true Fr DB's were named Fr All SEC, so that seem just fine to me. ;)

Yep the rumor a while back was something to do with a female volleyball player so I can only imagine what that is if he was choking his tutors...;) :(

Well, it's no rumor that you're usually a clueless dweeb twit on just about any subject that comes up, but especially concerning recruiting, so excuse me if I just ignore your repeating of spurious rumors....

~ Repeating unsubstantiated rumors that put Gator's in a negative light should be left up to the always annoying rival buttheads that come here, but you appear to be clueless about that as well... o_O

Always love hearing good news for a very deserving young man. :)

GAINESVILLE, Fla.
Tanner Rowell's dad (legacy - Tony) wanted him to wait until high school to start playing football. Tanner had other plans and joined his first team while in elementary school.

"I had a bunch of offers from smaller schools,'' Tanner Rowell said Thursday. "This is just where I was going to play. It's been in my head since I was a little kid."

Former Gators lineman Tony Rowell was thrilled – "psyched up" in the words of the second-oldest of Tony and Denise's six kids – when Tanner told him that UF head coach Dan Mullen announced at a team meeting Wed. night that he was being put on scholarship.

7 of UF's 24 2019 starters (29%) are ones that have transferred in. (recruited) o_O
The Gators are building their rosters in a somewhat unconventional fashion, one not fully taken into account by the traditional recruiting rankings. -- Something that the iG has been pointing out since last year...

As to the conventional recruiting, in this case the Fr DB's: “I think they’re doing really well,” Trask said on Thursday. “I think our staff does an excellent job of recruiting and we get some of the best players in the country, and I think they’re all really hard workers that, most of the time I see them all staying after practice with our veteran corners and they’re really coming along well.”

The difference between a 4 star and a 5 star is small, so I'll take Dan & staff's opinions, over the biased recruiting services, on which HS recruits will make the best Gators. All SEC-AA CJ Henderson said;I like all of them. They came in ready to work.":

How about another opinion? They have improved tremendously with Coach Gray. He is a great coach,” All SEC Trey Dean said. “Just different things he tells them and teaches... I think they will be great.”

Just iG's early opinion: Jaydon Hill and Chester Kimbrough to CB, with Kaiir Elam to STAR.
=====

"With Feleipe Franks leading the way at QB and fellow rsJr Kyle Trask poised to be the team’s primary back-up, Jones isn’t expected to play a vital role in 2019." -- Graham Hall

~ Not having to go through what Franks and Trask have gone through, will be a huge plus for Emory. When he finally gets his shot as the Gator QB, he'll be fully ready to go with his mature patience having paid off. -- iG
