Which is why the Corps Got the Tiltrotors. After they figured out how to fly them they've been extremely effective.Historically agree but manpads have made their use untenable on a modern battlefield unless you OWN the airspace.

A bunch of Marines, forty or so died while they figured out the art of flying a tilt rotor. That last line cracked me up.

At least 8 died while they figured out how to fly the AV-8B. Flying VTOL is completely different from conventional fixed wing aircraft.
Tanks are becoming relics imo. Too easy to target and destroy with relatively uncomplicated systems.
Goodbye, tanks: How the Marine Corps will change, and what it will lose, by ditching its armor
Commandant Gen. David H. Berger has said that should armor be needed by Marines, he would look to the Army to provide that capability.www.marinecorpstimes.com
The idea that the Army will give us anything because we ask for it is laughable. MacArthur wouldn't even give the Marines the Presidential unit citation for fighting in a battle he gave everyone else one.
General Berger is a short sighted moron.
General Berger thinks if you don't need something or something makes you slow, you give it away even if it will literally take an act of Congress to get it back in the future.
You know what Corporal Desikan thinks?
If you don't need something or it makes you slow, DON'T BRING IT.
Brand new officers have to report to the Sergeant Major once a day. They tell them it's for accountability purposes and to teach them about the value of senior enlisted personnel.
The rest of us think it's to make sure the stupid bastards didn't get lost between the BEQ and the company area, and that they showed up at the correct unit that day.
What do you call a Marine with only half a brain?
Sir.
@BamaFan1137 and anyone else still interested
I saw video of the incident.
It shows a mig buzzing the reaper at a distance of ten to twenty meters and jettisoning a small amount of fuel.
Then it shows one of the props was damaged.
Depending in altitude the fuel could have instantly frozen it crystallized and damaged the propeller.
Or, since the Reaper is not meant to maneuver at speed maybe that did it.
Kind of think Putin should be writing us a check.
I have never seen a Reaper prop up close but I have been told by the people who do op planning and isr for devgru that both the reaper and the predator are notoriously fragile and cranky of maintenance.Saw that too. Something solid definitely hit the Reaper.
Could it have been crystallized fuel? Maybe...but I doubt that. It would have needed to be a solid block, not an accumulation of crystals.
Also the Reaper appears to be in level flight as it happens so that rules out the maneuver causing prop damage.
There's a jolt and then the camera immediately pixilates. That was jet on drone contact imho.

Think about how fast both aircraft were traveling. And jettisoned fuel is pressurized. But tiny crystals???
Unless that fuel immediately became a solid mass of fuel, I don't see how that's possible.
Either way, the freaking Russian jet caused it. Write the check Putin...or, we're even on the whole pipeline thingy.

Pressure plus temperature. Gravel off a dump truck towards a windshield at a much higher speed.
What's the alternative? A Mig flew by our 32 million dollar technical marvel and it fell into the sea?I'm a skeptical hippo...but maybe. Either way...
I agree with you..they were @ 35000 feet supposedly. We need to have some F 35's escort our drones, and if Russia wants to come play...shoot their ass down. Russia does NOT scare me one bit. They have their hands FULL with little Ukraine. They are no match for us, and Putin knows this. He also knows of how weak Brandon is, and knows how far he can push himThink about how fast both aircraft were traveling. And jettisoned fuel is pressurized.

HOW DARE YOU SIRI'm a skeptical hippo..

Really? You need a refund from Rivals then. I don't have that problem? Why is it when you quote yourself I can see your retarded ass even when I have you <n ignore?
The people who are in charge of protecting vital US interests seem to be worried about China, since they had the Commandant of the Marine Corps develop a plan than was approved and implemented by Congress under two presidents, one Pub, one Dem.
