5 star RB transfer Lingard is cleared to play THIS year

Mullen is the master with getting transfers and high quality talent.

The other thing that I notice is that is that it shows the attention to detail when it comes to filling the roster with strong talent and maintaining good relationships with people. Also knowing who's out there. It's been really impressive and the guys have come in have made a big impact. 1 other exciting thing to me is that players are looking at UF again for Football...IMO they want to come and play in the Swamp and be apart of the program.

We're are cherry picking talent...just have to make it happen on the field. #gators

Friday, RB Lorenzo Lingard took to Twitter to announce that he was going to be eligible this season. And just like that, the running back room and position just got better for the 2020 season.

We don't yet know where he will fit in in the playing rotation, but more quality depth is never a bad thing, especially in Dan's 'committee RB' offense. -- iG

#26 RB Malik Davis 5-11 195 rsJr
#8 Dameon Pierce 5-10 207 Jr (likely starter, others to be determined)
#16 Ath Iverson Clement 5-11 193 rsSo (RB-FS)
#2 RB Lorenco Lingard 6-0 200 rsSo (Waiver granted, available for 2020)
#16 RB Nay'Quan Wright 5-9 195 rsFr
(247 HS position rankings -- Ht-Wt from 2019 Bio's)

Note: Dan brought in 6 transfers to the 2020 class, and 3 of them were HS 5-stars:
#2 LB Cox - #2 RB Lingard - #1 WR Shorter

It remains to be seen if Lingard can get back to the hype he carried coming out of high school. Sometimes an serious injury can take something away from skill players they can never get back. And he hasn't played much since high school. 17 carries as a freshman and only saw action in 2 games last year. Hopefully he will contribute, but he's going to have to work his way up the depth chart over guys who have already proven themselves. Glad to have him, though, and wish him nothing but the best.

Good news on Lingard. I don’t think Shorter will get the waiver which is fine. We don’t need Shorter as much this coming season. Better to let him sit a year.

1 time transfer with 1 year sitting out imo - no exceptions.

Also, if the coach is telling the kid to transfer, he should have the option of keeping his free ride as an academic-only. This option would be irreversible, the kid forfeits all remaining eligibility, but would be able to stay and get his degree. I doubt this would happen a lot, but the kid should always have an option that allows him to get his degree no matter how his sports career turned out.

1st xfer is a freebee, no need to involve begging the biased NCAA for a waiver.
Fields could play for tOSU, while Cox could not play for UF is utter BS! o_O

Then any 2nd xfer costs you a sit out year with no waiver possible.
Wuss Signed LOI Steele left UF and committed to Ore.
Then he left Ore for USCw,,,,, and he still played immediately.

WTF over???

I don't like a program losing a player and having that same player start against them the same year. I like the 1 year off regardless of the reasons. 2nd transfer, sit 2 years.

If it's that important waiting 1 or 2 years is an acceptable cost to keep programs somewhat stabilized.

I haven't seen the portal as a problem for football yet.
And the no xfer penalties in the other sports doesn't seem to be a big deal for them.
Good for the teams and the players it seems to me.
The ones that have left UF haven't hurt, while the one's that have come in have helped.

JMOHO, but making 'a mountain out of a mole-hill' is never productive for anyone...
