In most states, very easy. A union makes very little difference in a right to work state. Most of us live in a right to work state.

We don't have a union. They have no real power here so it would be wasted time and money. At best a union here could claim that the cop was fired outside of established procedure.

Also, Sheriff's Department employees work at the pleasure of the Sheriff. He can fire you because he felt like firing you.

Collective bargaining agreements. They work if the law actively supports the union or if there is truly a shortage of people who can do your job at the same level or anywhere approaching that level (see NFL).
