2025-2026 Gator Basketball

This team is going to have tremendous depth at all positions. Experience in the backcourt is the only question. No doubt the guys coming in are ultra talented but can they play together unselfishly?
That's a big question. Our guards and forwards played amazingly unselfish, including Clayton. When it became obvious one of them had the hot hand, the rest of them fed that guy the rock until he was not. Some nights it was a completely different guy, I remember Martin going unconcious a couple of times when it was sorely needed.

That's exactly what happened when Aberdeen got red hot vsthe Cocks in Gainesville, although they knew Aberdeen was getting fed, they still couldn't stop him that night.

Just like there's a reason you aren't being paid for what you post here

You should go back to your precious women's basketball thread since you don't know squat about Rioux. How did that 7'5" or however tall he is from Ole Miss helped back in 2024? Their current 7 footer Bol, who decommited from UF, sucks.

As usual, when you have nothing constructive to say, you instead just go to babbling away... 😂

And Houston found out trying to shut down Clayton (which they did) UF didn’t try to force it they just went elsewhere (mostly Will Richard). One of the great strengths of this team was you couldn’t shut down everyone.

We begged the entire tournament for Richard to show back up, and he did in the biggest game of them all.. He's the reason we won that night, that just summed up what that team was all year.. you can't hope all of them have bad games because there was too many good players for that to happen.

As to replacing Clayton, NBD imo, they replaced Pullin didn't they?

The only 2 possible problems are 'can they play as a TEAM,' because the talent is there, and the ever present chance of injuries, but even that it mitigated with the depth on the roster.

Now, combine that with returning ALL of the BIG's:

Thomas Haugh 6-9 215 Jr
Viktor Mikic 6-11 250 So

Any pollsters not putting them in the preseason Top 10 is an idiot imo, likely Top 5.

And as I said yesterday....

The National Champion Florida Gators have scoured the recruiting boards and the transfer portal and found exactly what they need to reload. Alongside the Kentucky Wildcats, the Gators were ranked in the top tier by CBS ahead of the 2025-26 season when compared to the rest of the SEC teams. Tier 1 means they are title contenders.

Also as I've said before...
The final piece will be whether or not big man Oliver Rioux plays this upcoming season. Gators’ head coach Todd Golden has said that he may not even after being redshirted last season. If he does play, it will be sparingly at the end of games.
(to at least get some playing time preparing for the 2026-27 season when several of the bigs will be gone)

The Gators and the Cats play each other home and home this coming season.

Yep the SEC screwing us as usual. Of course they would give them a home court game only and then go back to 2 games the next season. They always pull this crap more on us than their favorites when it comes to bye weeks in the football scheduling also.

The Gators even got screwed in the ACC/SEC Challenge. Not because we draw Duke but because Duke once again plays at home. They played at home in last year;s ACC/SEC challenge.

But WTF it will make our victory sweeter.

The only thing I know about Duke is they lost all 3 of their top freshmen to the NBA draft and will replace them with the Boozer twins. I hear they have another top recruiting class but I can't see Duke repeating the same success they had last season.

We should have gotten the home game. We are the flipping National Champions!!
100% agree. Duke has been getting favorable venues for decades. The majority of their NCAA games are played in the State of North Carolina. Greensboro, Charlotte, etc. The usually get seeded in the East no matter what their record.

Last year they were paired with Auburn and the game was in Durham. Now we get them on their home court. Back to back home games. It sucks and it is another example of the privilege they usually get.

Beating them in Durham will be sweet. And the Gators will win this game.

Looked up this challenge over the past 2 years and surprisingly it's not too bad balance wise except for Duke getting 2 home games against top SEC teams. They had Auburn last season. I am sure KY was the only road game this season NC thought wasn't underneath them though.

They have us the #1 overall seed to start things off. If the new guards mesh with each other we might can live up to that.
Last year we kind of snuck up on people by starting the season not very highly rated and just got better and better. This year we'll have a bullseye on our back every game as the reigning champs. Hope the new talent mixes well with the returning talent. If so, it could be another special season.

Yep we should be real good for sure but how good? It looks like they have TN and KY as the SEC teams after us and the SEC being murderers row again with 14 teams in the dance. As long as we get a #1 seed again we will be in good position to possibly repeat.

Our front court can match up with any team, any where. If the guards play to their potential and the injury bug stays away we are in for a solid season. We can repeat with the right draw and a few breaks.

It is going to be fun to watch. Go Gators.

When was the last time that the Gators had two guards that were this sudden/quick with the ball?
And both are accurate shooters outside of the arc.

Lee - He likes to drive all the way to the rim.

Boogie - He'll often pull up short for a midrange floater.

They will both need to keep the excellent Bigs in the game, not trying to be the STARS, but a part of a TEAM.
And they now have very good brothers at SG.

I'm not a fan of Women's BB, but I know some on this board are. Caitlin Clark is arguably the greatest player of that gender and because of jealousy, racism and outright hatred, the WNBA management, refs and media have allowed her to be abused and beaten over and over to the point where she has every right to take her money and walk away from the game, which will cost everybody involved millions, if not billions, of revenue. Insanity rules!

You'd be a welcome addition to The Parking Lot where Insta has a WNBA thread there. You'll definitely find it more entertaining there.

Florida's Olivier Rioux to compete in FIBA U19 World Cup

Florida rsFr center Olivier Rioux 7-9 305 will represent his home country in international action for the 5th consecutive summer.

In over 24 international appearances, he has averaged 4.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. The Canadian National Team earned bronze medals with Rioux as a member of the squad in 2021 and 2024.

His lack of explosiveness due to his size is an issue. It's hard for him to get off the ground (but he can touch the rim flatfooted), and changing directions is challenging. His continued physical development is on the staff, and finding the best way to use him in games is on Todd. I still don't see him being used much in the coming season, but I hope he does get on the floor when it's available to prepare for the following season. -- iG

Gatordad, How many Florida woman's basketball games have you attended? :)
Also, if you had any daughters, would you take them to one? Why or why not?

You do know that Shaquille O'Neal has a daughter on the Florida woman's basketball team? She did not sign with LSU. Perhaps Florida will do better now.

Me personally, I went to one where UF hosted Tennessee & the SEC might be on the line - I can't remember what year, but I think I went to one of Pat Summitt's last games in the 2000s. Summitt had to retire after developing dementia.

It was packed & ruckus in the O'Dome for that UF-UT game - a good atmosphere, but unfortunately, the Gators lost. That is the one sport that Florida has been snake bitten.

I was at that one too. I only went to a few, and none in a few years now.
I also went to some of the soccer games back when they were new to UF.
But I've been to a lot of volleyball, but again, not in a few years, same with football though.

Socialist-U eventually ran me off....
