2024-25 Basketball,,, all things considered...

I thought we were very likely to lose when down by 6 in the 2nd half. Clayton hit clutch shots when we had to have it but his defense was terrible today and our big guys were lacking today also. A win is a win though.
Against the two time defending champions, style points don't mean sheeet.

Yeah but their coach is a bitter little bitch. Eff the mutts. He literally thought he owned the refs just because he said so. What an assclown.

There is the good and the bad with ever team and every player.

Clayton - Turnovers

Condon - Missed FT's

Aberdeen - Often misses the Bigs breaking open in the paint while dribbling...

Team - Missed FT's and sloppy steals in a crowd and lazy passing resulting in TO's.
------
Nearing the end of the season, I'm voting for Haugh as the 6th Man winner.
He would be a starter on any other team, and he will be next season, along with Aberdeen.
-----

As to the UConn game, there were 4 Refs in that game (whiny Hurly), he's as bad at Cal and Pearl on the sideling screaming at the Refs. Another thing, the Coaches BOX apparently doesn't apply to him. He was always over the line and sometimes as far out as half-court and often on the court, with the Refs having to walk around him, and they never said anything to him about it that I could see.... (post game claimed the Refs ph....ed them to the Baylor players/coaches).

If anything, the Refs favored UConn with their suspect foul calls imo....

The Gator's used up some of the Sweet-16 luck to get past (32) 8 seed UConn.
If they play like that again they are likely going home, because you need to be 'good enough' and then have some good luck. You can't depend on the lucky part, so you'd better be GOOD.....

They had a bad game but won somehow. I think us and Duke are the 2 most likely teams to win it all.

First off, Dukie played an ACC schedule, not an SEC schedule.

L Duke vs 72 - 77 #19 UK (their only loss opponent that's still in the Dance)

L Duke vs 72 - 75 Kan (21-13)
Kan 21-13, Lost to 22-12 Mizz 67 - 76 in season. (then Drake sent Mizz home)
Kan 72 - 79 was just knocked out of the Dance by 22-13 Ark.

L Duke @ 71 - 77 NR Clem - Clemp's-son sent home by 12 seed McNeese.
In season, #2 ACC Clems'son lost to SEC bottom of the bucket SCa.
==========

What all those previous games means in the Dance is,,, NADA imo.

But IF you're just yapping about it, Dukie looks like wet-chit to me.
Dukie ain't gonna be in the championship game is my own WaG.....
BUT! If it comes down to UF vs Dukie, then get that banner ready to be hung in the O'Dome....
😉

Duke was, also the first team to beat Auburn and right now has the #1 NET ranking (Florida is #4), #5 in RPI (Florida is #3), #3 ELO ranking (Florida is #2), but only #30 in SOS (Florida is #16). Gators have a slight edge in these overall rankings.
Your points are valid for sure. I honestly think that Florida has the deepest team of quality players, but Duke has shown the most consistent excellence of any team out there over the entire season. They are #3 in assist to turnover ratio, Florida is #30, Duke is #5 in effective fiield goal % (combined 2 point and 3 point shots), Florida is #41. Duke is #4 in Field Goal % Defense, Florida is #15. Duke is #14 in Free Throw %, Florida is #188 (and that could be the Gators downfall in a close game). Florida is #9 in rebound margin, Duke is #11.

Bottom line - I, also, agree with you that all the prior stats can be thrown out the window because now each game is a 1-game season that stands on its own. Personally, I am very impressed by Duke and they have the size and talent to compete with Florida, plus the best freshman in the country in Cooper Flagg, who will be an NBA lottery pick this year. Houston, also, has the athletic type of team that can win it all and I'm actually concerned about Arkansas in the West Region because they are fully healthy for the first time this season, I believe. They played most of their SEC schedule with 2 or 3 starters out, but will be at full strength for San Francisco. But we still have to get by Maryland and in the Dance anything can happen. I do predict Duke will beat Arizona convincingly and will beat either Alabama or BYU to go to the Final 4. I'm more confident of them making it there than I am of Florida right now. Hope I'm wrong.

Both of you make great points but let me throw this out there. We have a coach that knows all of this (and several things we don’t know) He will coach and adjust accordingly. I believe he is the best coach remaining in the field.

I have the same feelings. I think the ACC schedule will soon bite Duke in the butt. They skated through one of the weakest ACC in 50 years. I am reminded Kentucky beat Duke. They can be beat.

It's true that the ACC had a down year and the SEC had the best year in their history. But remember, Kentucky, also, beat Florida as did Georgia and Missouri. If you look at Duke & Florida's losses, Florida had the worst loss when Georgia beat them. Duke is loaded, just as we are. If we meet for the title, it should be a great game.

Clemp's-son beat Dukie, then SCa beat Clemp's-son....

SCa finished at the bottom (16) of the SEC at 2-16.

Dukie won't be in the title game.
Gators might not be in the title game.
JMOHO's of course....

Good thing we made the Sweet 16 since you were locked and loaded if we would have lost that game. Not sure if we will meet Duke in the championship game or not but they are a really good team.

feveredbraiins, you are FoS on this, just like you were after the UGly game. But hey, you keep right on beating that dead horse till your arms fall off if you want too, as it still gives me a small chuckle to watch it.

As to Dukie being a good team, the same can be said for the other Sweet-16 teams. This is where the luck on a given day really begins to matter.

This year there are no Cinderellas among the remaining teams. Arkansas is the lowest seed at #10, but after playing most of the season with several of their best players out with injury, they are close to being at full strength. Only their top scorer is questionable and when all the pieces are there, the Razorbacks can beat anybody. So, these games will come down to execution and effort. The teams that limit turnovers, make 75% of their free throws, hit their open shots, box out and rebound well, and then get a lucky bounce or fortunate call here are there will win and advance. On paper there may be some upsets, but all of the teams in the Sweet 16 are capable of winning 4 in a row to take home the title. I just don't want it to be anybody but the Gators, but certainly don't want another SEC team to win it.

Maryland's Head Coach, Willard, is jumping to Villanova once the Terps are finished for this season. They will face the Gators with a lame duck coach. This may put an interesting twist on the game.

I agree with this. There are no Cinderellas this year in the Sweet 16 because like you say Arkansas only fell from a pretty high ranking early in the season due to injuries. I have a strong feeling either us or Duke win the championship though. As far as upsets I think I would pick Michigan beating Auburn if I had to pick what I thought was the most likely one.

ocala, IF the Gators don't win it all, then I'm hoping that some other SEC team does win it, otherwise the SEC as a whole loses cred. I don't want the entire Conf. to become 'Regular Season Ric' do you?

I could care less about SEC cred. I'm a Gator fan, but honestly hate most of the SEC.

And I sure ain't gonna pull for Cheater/Sweater Pearl & Auburn, 1-Tooth Tennessee, Arrogant Kentucky, Cheater Calipari & Arkansas and I always want Alabama to lose. I'll be pulling for Ole Miss to beat Michigan State, though, just because I want Sparty to lose.

If the SEC has a team in the Final Four they don't have to prove crap imo. If the SEC got 2 in the Final Four that would be something though. I want us to make the Final Four as this team would be the 2nd best ever imo behind the back to back champions considering the strength of the SEC this season and that they won the SECT also.

If one of them make the Final Four along with Duke I probably would rather them beat Duke and get them in the championship game if we advance to it.
Not me. I want to play Duke and beat them like a drum. But I sure don't want another SEC team to luck out and beat us for the title if we get that far.

Another ugly game playing down to the competition. 12 or 13 turnovers in a half? We are lucky tonot be down 10 with that garbage, and Chen is missing bunnies at the rim. Golden looked pissed oni the way to the locker room.
