2024-25 Basketball,,, all things considered...

You just made me chuckle again. 😂 But the reality is, that scenario is just about a mirror image of what we're up against. We lost a front line player last year in the SEC tournament and it cost us a deeper run. Numbers will agree with me.
I just can't imagine a Todd Golden team not doing their best to win every game they play. Last year was a terrible break, but these guys want to win every time they take the floor and that's the way they're coached. I don't think it matters, though, whether or not we win the SEC tournament as far as NCAA seeding goes, but I would feel safer if we won our first game at least.
As an aside, looking at the bracket pairing, another reason I think we get the #1 seed in the West is because the West and South meet in the semifinals of the Final 4, meaning potentially us and Auburn. They won't want 2 SEC #1 seeds meeting for the national title.

Just having some fun to lighten up the day.... 😉

Gator PG Walter Clayton, on his senior night was 9-for-17 (5-for-11 from 3) with:
23 Pts, 8 Asts and 5 Rbs. That's outstanding! (but it would only be an average game for Caitlin Clark (19.2 Pt, 8.4 Ast, 5.7 Rbs, 1.3 Stl, 0.7 Blk) ....
😉
======

I'd be hopeful for the Gators having a chance of winning the NC, except for this:
The I-wish-dogpoker told me repeatedly that the recruit ranking are critical to winning.

And so since the Gator B-Ballers have ZERO 5-stars and only ONE 4-star on the team, that means that they have no chance to be winners,
and I always go by whatever the sports genius types tell me............. 🙄

Chinlyeu isn't exactly what Samuel was for us last season, but he's been an excellent replacement for Samuel.
Chinyelu is a vacuum on that glass though, he's become a much bigger piece than I ever thought he would. He defends, blocks shots and has started to score more.. When he's in double figures it's just another like how do you even beat this team thing when you look at the stat sheet.

And Chin knocked down those 2 foul shots on the reversed Flagrant Foul call....

Watch us get the team that is rated pretty high (top 10) in most metric rankings like Kenpom and NET but are possibly only going to be an 8 seed and likely in our region close to where their fans are at. Fricking Gonzaga. You can't make this crap up. Worst 8/9 team opponent and location scenario for a #1 seed I can think of. Hopefully they win their tourney tonight and maybe get a #7 seed.

If we play Gonzaga as a #1 vs. #8 seed it will be in Gainesville, FL per ESPN bracketology. However, I think their info is wrong, as Raleigh, NC has already been set by the NCAA as the site of the first 2 rounds of West Regional games where Florida would play as #1 seed in the West. If the Zags are a #8 seed, they would travel east.

Yep I jumped the gun with that. Was thinking of the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 game locations. Still a hard matchup for an 8/9 game though.
See my edit to my post above. Gainesville is not a Regional host, so the ESPN link I posted is obviously wrong. Nevertheless, if Gonzaga is a #8 seed in the West and we're #1, the Zags will travel East. While Mark Few is a great coach, Gonzaga is not much better than an average team this year.

All the metric stuff loves Gonzaga though. If they are hitting 3s they are a tough team.

The game would be in Raleigh, NC I think.

Yes - Raleigh. Gonzaga's SOS is #45, but their ELO is #17, RPI is #24 and their NET ranking is #8. Those are pretty high rankings for a #8 seed. And I agree for sure that with Mark Few as coach and the experience they have in the NCAA tournament, they are capable of beating anybody on a given night.

If they do put them in the West it's like a possible pick your poison scenario. If they are #8 seed you get them in NC but you get them just to make the Sweet 16. If they win tonight and get a #7 seed in the West and get hot then you get them in the worst possible scenario in the Elite 8 with their fanbase out there. I guess I would rather have them than say Texas Tech etc in the elite 8 though.

Gonzaga isn't gonna be an 8 now since they won last night probably, but I wouldn't be worried about them we would kick their ass..

They are planting the seeds for Alabama and Tennessee to be 1 seeds still at full force, at this point it's impossible to care because of how obvious the anti UF bias is.. Which is hilarious because, in reality.. We've been this conference flag bearer in basketball since 2000, been to 5 Final Fours and like 8 elite Eights and yet the teams with 2 combined Final Fours in their programs histories and both just happened in 2019 and last year (Bama, Auburn, UT) are treated like Kentucky by the media for some unknown reason.. I just want our team to kick the shit out of everyone and show them what's really real

It's all speculation until Sunday evening, but this morning Lunardi's Bracketology moved Gonzaga to a #7 seed in the Midwest opposite Alabama for a 2nd round game. Louisville is now on his line as #8 seed in the West facing #9 New Mexico opposite the Florida/Norfolk St. winner

I figured as many consecutive NCAA tourney appearances Gonzaga has been in, they'd normally come in no worse than a 5 seed. Then again, they have that Bobby Bowden not wanting to join the SEC thinking. Eff Gonzaga!
