2024-25 Basketball,,, all things considered...

Condon's injury looks serious.
I missed the first 5 minutes of the game. It was the perfect opportunity to get ambushed on the road. Any team can beat anybody in this league when playing at home. Toughed out the first half and then went brawling the first 5 minutes the second half. That was a great win on the road. Hopefully everyone is healthy for the home stretch into March Madness.

Broome missed a lot of chippies, but some of that was frustration at how Condon was holding his game down. He did score a good bit down the stretch but by then the game was pretty much out of reach. Condon is fairly new at basketball, too, and seems to be getting better and better with each game experience. Impressive guy. Haugh as well.
We were the first team to single up Broome and take away all his pick and rolls that he thrives on..

You gotta give Todd Golden credit man.. He's doing an elite job of coaching this team, we got very fortunate he's turned out to be so good at what he does..

Tonight's win was equally as impressive as ambushing Auburn, this was the epitome of a let down spot against another ranked team in this conference on the road.. 30 seconds in you're down 2 starters now, and then it looked like none of that ever mattered with the D adjustments Todd made in the 2nd half to go on a crazy 17-0 run like that.. This team deserves a Final Four run, they really do play like A Billy D team, in particular our last Final Four team from ten years ago.. No great NBA players, just depth and team ball with good guards and post players that play their nuts off and crash the glass and know their role. It would really be a shame if they can't stay healthy to get what they deserve. I really think us and Bama are the two most complete and dangerous teams in a one off tournament.

I mean of all the great teams Billy had over the years, that's the first time we've ever won two consecutive road games against ranked teams.. When the SEC is at it's best too

Incredible coaching job by Golden making the halftime adjustments to get the defensive pressure ramped up to start the 2nd half. Haugh & Aberdeen were excellent. However, long term I don't think we're a serious contender without Alex Condon. He's simply irreplaceable to this team. Hope his injury is just short term.

It reminds me of 2017. The gators were rolling at Auburn and Egbunu goes down. We finished the blowout and the team made a deep run (elite 8). I believe that team might have won It all. Very similar to this team. Remember Canyon Barry coming off the bench? John Egbunu however never was able to get back on the court.

Condon is out 10-14 days. Golden said he thought the play against Condon was dirty basketball. That’s why he went off. He said it again after the game.

how much longer is alijah gonna be out?

I mean I guess we have closest to taking a breath of schedule in the SEC over the next week at home

Martin has a hip pointer and my guess is that he'll play Saturday night. EVERY SEC game is a challenge. Our next game is against South Carolina, who outplayed us in their gym a few weeks ago. We were very fortunate to come from behind late and pull out a win. Their strength is their frontcourt and without Condon, it's going to be a real challenge. Take no game for granted, my friend.

We just trashed two ranked teams on the road without our two starters in the toughest conference in the nation.

Once Klavzar gets his defense figured out, he could be the closest thing to being Lee Humphrey.

That is a crazy stat Billy never won consecutive road games against ranked teams in the SEC but a big part of that I guess would be only a few ranked teams in the SEC those championship years.

I guess KY does have TNs number this year but any team that can score like us can beat KY if you rough them up. Hoping we catch them in the SEC tourney or in the Elite 8 or Final Four for a rematch.

I believe UK is in the tourney, however, the fans at Rupp's Rafters are having some meltdowns over the possibility of not getting in.

Some really think that? Any 8 - 10 or better SEC conference record team will be in the tourney.

Kentucky is a lock for the NCAA tournament. The SEC is going to get 10-11 teams in.

Yep I think it's looking like 10 teams probably earn a bid prior to the SECT but some others would need to win a few games in the SECT finishing 7 - 11 in conference play.

I had a hip flexor my entire Senior year in football I played through, it's awful because it just never goes away but you have to rehab and wrap it everyday and just be mindful of it.. It's good to rest but that thing ain't gonna go away this year for him, he's just gonna have to play with it. Just don't let it pop again that's when you set yourself back, but the way they have kinesio tape and wraps and stems available to these kids they can take care of that stuff light years better than they could when I played 20 years ago.

As for South Carolina, I watched the whole first game we played awful and let them do more to us down low than anyone we've played.. Im not playing the game so I don't have to worry about looking ahead, but I doubt we'll shoot near that bad again. That was the lowest point total we had scored the entire year at the time and still won.

Gainesville, Fla. – Florida Gators men’s basketball received a significant boost to their roster on Friday. Center Micah Handlogten is returning to the court. The original plan was to take the season to rest up, but the Florida Gators center is ready sooner than expected. His rehab has progressed quicker than expected. Because of this, he toyed with the idea of returning earlier this season, specifically against the Georgia Bulldogs in January. The 7-foot-1, 235-pound big man was cleared for practice and was a full participant in them leading up to the contest against the Bulldogs. However, he changed his mind at the last second, opting to stick with his decision to medical redshirt.

It seems to me that Condon's recent ankle sprain played into him returning. I was actually hoping that he might be available for the end of season SEC-T and/or the Dance, but now is pretty good imo....

It's still too early to call it, but it's looking good to me....
The Florida Gators are now among the top four teams and would be a one seed if the Tournament started today.

March Madness’ official X page
listed the Gators along with Duke, Auburn and Alabama as the one seeds.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi concurred with the same four schools being the one seed in his latest projections on Saturday. The Gators are the top seed in the West Region (San Francisco). --- ESPN has the Gators starting in Raleigh, N.C., and taking on Norfolk State, the automatic qualifying team from the Mid-Eastern Atheltic Conference.

The Gators currently sit at No. 3 in the AP Top 25 as well as No. 3 in the Coaches Poll as well. Florida received three first-place votes in the AP Poll and six first-place votes in the Coaches Poll.

Florida's current injuries, plus the realistic opportunity to compete for a national championship was far too great of an opportunity to pass up.

It's unclear where Handlogten will fit in the current rotation, which includes starter Rueben Chinyelu and sixth-man Thomas Haugh, who will likely start in Condon's place. With both Condon and Alexis out, he'll be expected to play plenty of minutes against the Gamecocks. Martin playing or not is a game time decision.

Handlogten will probably alternate playing time with Chinyelu.

South Carolina bigs have given us more trouble twice than any team we've played down low.. But even with multiple bigs out this game, we now went from having 3 guys that can go for 20 any given night to five with Haugh and Aberdeen.. Aberdeen has more potent than Martin offensively and that's crazy.. Leading scorer again. Clayton had 10, Martin had 11 and Will had 8.. If we have a game where 3 of those five get off for 20 plus we would murder whoever that is... 5 players scored in double figures again for 2nd straight game, we've hit like 42 threes the last 3 games.. This team is gonna be a hell of an out, because someone is going to get theirs any game in the tournament, if not 2 guys.. Chinyelu was amazing in the 2nd half.. again, if this team doesn't get to make a run it would really be a shame...

I know it sounds crazy, but this Gator team thrives when they make up their minds to ramp up their DEFENSIVE intensity. They got off to such a hot start shootiing last night, they got very complacent defensively and allowed South Carolina so many easy buckets. They then got lazy and complacent on offense, not working as a team and just going one-on-one, taking bad shots. But with about 6 minutes left in the first half, they started playing better defense, made a nice run and took the 4 point lead into halftime. They came out the 2nd half pressuring the heck out of the Gamecocks and blew them away. A bunch of steals and fast break baskets, 21 assists total for the game to their 7. Aberdeen & Haugh were tremendous. Micah has a lot of rust to knock off, but he did play better the 2nd half and even had 5 assists. I think @instaGATOR mentioned it a while back, but with all the individual talent on this team, they have to play as a true TEAM to be great. And it starts on the defensive end. The offensive success and ball movement is directly correlated to how hard and smart they play on defense. They should win their next 3 games (Oklahoma, LSU, Georgia) fairly easily, but only if they play intense, team defense. The rest of their game hinges on that, IMO.

I watched the game last night with a high school buddy. Middle of the first half I said, we better play defense next half because USCe wasn't missing any shots. And like magic, that's exactly what happened and then it was never close again.

Yep if this team is rebounding like it can its going to be tough for anyone to beat us in the tournament. Unless that team is shooting real good on contested shots we can afford a player or two having off shooting nights and still win. We can't play a team like KY that way again though. If we just got more defensive that game we win it 9 times out of 10 probably.

What I think is really great about this team is when a couple of guys get hot the rest of the team feeds them the ball. So unselfish. When any one of them is asked about a personal achievement or goal the response is “I don’t think about that, I just want the team to win.”

If we got any flaws, it's careless passing or handling the ball (at times). Every now and then some free throw shooting yips, but other than that, there is damned little to complain about.

ocala - Nav - Nick said about the same things that I was noticing and saying while watching that game.
TEAM - Defense - Value and share the ball instead of looking for personal glory.

And I'll reintegrate that TEAM play necessity, if they want to make that run.
If they can get everyone healthy and available by Dance time for rotation/depth, at least a Final-4 is expected by me.

EDIT: IMO, this is what separated the 04's from everyone else, they truly played for and cared about the success of each other.

I said earlier in the season that I thought that Haugh and Aberdeen should share the 6th Man Award.
Nothing has changed for me to alter that opinion, and I agree with everyone that believes they'd both be starters elsewhere.

Heck, they are occasional starters here now for the (imo) #1-2 team, and will be for sure next season starters.

The team gets thrown off rhythm whenever Ruben Chinlyeu gets into early foul trouble. Now I'm hoping the next 3 games will get the rust off Micah Handlogten. We need Micah in the worst way with Condon out for at least another week or two.

Is Tod Golden the next Billy The Kid? He's got that potential magic. He gets this team to play hard. This team is deep, 10-11 players deep. We don't have the 04's star magic but going 2 deep into the bench makes this a real force, and possibly a better overall team. Basketball is still a team game, until you get to the NBA level.

Before Urban Klavzar came into his own, Golden only went with Haugh, Alexis and Aberdeen off the bench. Now we wait for Condon to heal.
