2024-25 Basketball,,, all things considered...

Looking at UNF's schedule, they're not exactly a above average team but they did beat Ga Tech and S Carolina, but a 54 point win?!
I watched about 10 minutes and switched the channel. That was an unwatchable beatdown. 😂

black-knight-draw-monty-python.gif

Jus-damn! It looked to me like they watched those 2 utube 'training' vids that I put up, the way they played. 😉

Ended the first half at 54 - 17 with 10 players getting minutes, and with 9 of them getting points. Additionally, they shot 48.8% from the field, 50% from deep and were a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line.
They finished with 20 team assists coming from 8 different players.
This is the 3rd time that the Gators have had 20 assists or more in a game this season.
Final score - UF 99 - 45 UNF
Next victim will be Stetson on Dec. 29th at home, game on SEC-N.

The BIG's went big in this game.
When you have 3 bigs going for double-doubles, it's gotta be a sure win...

Sam Alexis ------- 14 Pts + 12 Rbs, 1 Blk
Alex Condon ----- 12 Pts + 10 Rbs, 2 Blks, 1 Ast
Thomas Haugh -- 10 Prs + 10 Rbs, 1 Blk, 2 Asts, 2 Stls
Rueben Chinyelu - 6 Pts + 6 Rbs, 2 Asts
Combined for --- 42 Pts, 38 Rbs, 4 Blks, 5 Asts, 2 Stls....
While they also combined for 14 for 14, 100% at the FT line.
😲

Seven players were 100% at the line, the team went 22 of 27, 81.5%.

Then the CG/SF's were also banging it all game:

Will Richard ---- 26 Pts, 5 Rbs, 2 Asts, 2 Stls
Walter Clayton ---- 8 Pts, 1 Rb, 3 Asts, 3 Stl's
Alijah Martin ------- 8 Pts, 3 Rbs, 3 Asts, 2 Stl's, 1 Blk
Isaiah Brown ------ 7 Pts, 4 Rbs, 1 Stl
Urban Klavzar ----- 6 Pts, 3 Rbs, 3 Ast
Denzel Aberdeen - 2 Pts, 6 Rbs, 4 Asts, 1 Stl
Kajus Kublickas --- 0 Pts, 2 Rbs
Combined for ---- 57 Pts, 24 Rbs, 16 Asts, 8 Stls, 1 Blk

They are 12-0 and have yet to have any player foul out of a game.

One more tune-up, and then the REAL season begins @ Kensucky....

Of course the Alligator would run with any claim whether they had something other than a "she said" backing it up or not. Don't know the whole deal here but if nothing big is done by the school I doubt there was much evidence of anything pretty bad.
Just being the skeptic,,,, or the $$$ + threats are finally paying off.....
(unable to find any evidence)
After all, they've never lied to us before,,, or have they?

As Miami coach Jim Larranga is set to retire, here is a delusional list of candidates.

So why would a coach who has Iowa State ranked 3rd in the nation have any interest in an athletic program like Miami? Look who else is on the list.

And now, back to the sports portion of this thread....

Defense Improvements in Basketball, leading to a #6 Rankings in a 12-0 season start: With 247Sports #7 Ranked Transfer Class.
CG Alijah Martin
PF Sam Alexis
C/PF Rueben Chinyelu

But there’s more to it than just these 3 defense minded xfer-ins, the Gators are also seeing higher minutes and better production from guys like CG Denzel Aberdeen and SF Thomas Haugh this season. Both are above-average defenders in their respective ways......

Gators cruise over Stetson, finish pre-conference schedule 13-0. Reality hits in a few days for all SEC teams. Incredible start for the good guys, though.

KY should be a good test especially on the road but surprisingly the last 7 years we are 3-4 on their court and only 1-6 on our court. Haven't watched a lot of KY but they seem to live or die by their 3 pt shooting. They weren't dropping is how Ohio State roughed them up.

Neither do I. And the rankings don't mean much this early in the season anyway.
When they get about half way through the Conf. schedules, then the rankings and W/L records begin to matter.

NCAA College Basketball RPI Rankings & Ratings 2024

About The RPI Ratings

The RPI ratings were created by the NCAA, and used to be considered by the NCAA tournament selection committee during the selection and seeding process. They have been replaced by the NET Rating, which does not have an easily reproducible formula. We publish the RPI ratings here not because we think they are good ratings, but because in the past they have been useful when trying to predict the decisions of the selection committee. In addition, the team sheets used by the selection committee reportedly still display a Strength Of Schedule ranking that's derived from the old RPI.

I was looking back at the 06-07 schedule and this year's team is running the table vs 06-07 team. I know there's different players and such but whenever you compare you can see this year's team is very special, SO FAR. Hope they stay healthy!

The SEC is a much tougher basketball league now than it was back then. I'm withholding judgment until they've played a bunch of games in the SEC. Impressed so far, no doubt.

And yes even Georgia, that Newell dude is for real.
Georgia's only loss was to #15 Marquette back in Nov in their 6th game.

Okay, but who have they beat in their 12-1 season so far?

#22 St. Johns
GaTech
Notre Dame
And a bunch of other NR'ings like UF has played.

BTW, UF has yet to play a ranked team, while UGly has already played 2, going 1-1.
Just a FYI - I didn't bring the buttsniffers up, and I haven't and don't watch anything but Gator games.

I don’t care for Georgia at all but I have to give credit where it’s due. They are in a far better place than they were.

Early Saturday 11:00 AM on ESPN, #6 UF @ #10 Kensucky.

It's in Rupp, but we've beat them there in recent years, more than in the O'Dome.
They look beatable to me as long as the Gators come in ready to go and play their game.

#6. Florida (13-0)

With 3 Sr Guards that have scored over 1,200 career Pts each.
Bigs = PF/C 6-11, C/PF 6-10, SF 6-9, PF 6-8 -- likely redshirting 7-1, 6-11, 7-9
With the 2nd longest season start win streak in UF history.

#10. Kensucky (11-2) Both losses to NR teams, Clemp's-son & tOSU
CG Otega Oweh 6-4 215 Jr
Pts 15.9, Rbs 3.6, Ast 1.7
Has scored double digits in every game, with 21 pts 3 times.

This team isn't in the league of that 06-07 team. That team starting with the 05-06 SECT was on another level when they took the game as meaningful. In the 06-07 regular season most of their losses were like you see when top NBA teams take the game off mostly. When they turned it on they were probably the best team since they won those championships. Doesn't mean this UF team can contend for a championship though.

So much for the media experts who picked that very 05-06 team to finish deep down in the middle of the SEC. All we heard was how we lost well over 60% of our offense with David Lee, Matt Walsh and Anthony Roberson. None of us ever predicted what would happen with the 04's till we watched them kick ass before SEC play.

I also remember some dumbass Gator fans wanting Billy Donovan fired or leaving for Kentucky during the middle of that season.

Just remember, Joakim Noah, Taurean Green struggled during their freshmen seasons while Horford barely set foot on the court. Brewer was the only one who had any upside at the time.

Tom Izzo has led the MichSt Spartans to 8 Final Fours, one national championship, and 26 consecutive NCAA tournaments.
"You have to be good enough to make the Sweet 16, then you have to be lucky enough to win a NC.
Because once you get to those final 16 teams, any of them can win on any given day...."

I'd say that this Gator team is good enough to make the Sweet 16. After that, the LUCK comes into play..........

Most years but teams as good as our back to back championship teams can win it all even with luck going against them some games. I agree this team will need some luck like other top teams this year though.

fever - Do I expect them to win the NC? --- NO

Is it possible for them to win a NC, IF they first get to the Sweet-16? --- Yes, in mine and Tom's opinions.

And I'll leave the NC question at that....

Tom Izzo is a smart man and a great coach. This Florida team is definitely good enough to make the Sweet 16. Guard play dominates college basketball and our guard rotation is as good as any out there, IMO. Talented AND experienced. On top of that we have a 4 deep frontcourt that is versatile and tough. Our 2006-07 teams were very special in that they didn't go very deep, but the 7-8 guys that played were so good and so motivated they outmatched just about every team they played, especially in the clutch. This year's team probably doesn't have the individual greatness of Al Horford, Joakim Noah and Corey Brewer, but they have more depth than that team, plus it seems the drive and cohesiveness are there. It's a little early to get carried away with the brutal SEC schedule looming, but I get the feeling they can go a long way. Some luck is certainly involved, as are match-ups, but I have a good feeling this season.

What reminds me so much about the 06-07 team and this one is the stifling defensive play of both teams inside and out. Defense usually doesn’t have an off night. This will cover most cold shooting.

Yep guard play wins championships in recent years mostly but I think if we could get Condon a little better at taking it to the basket when given the chance this could be a really good team. It would make us very hard to defend.

I don’t see much in common between the teams other than both are good. The 06/07 team was frontcourt first with Taurean getting the ball where it was supposed to go and Lee Humphrey knocking down threes when the defense collapsed.

This team is guard first although they have good bigs but none of these bigs compare to Horford or Joakim.

I was speaking to only the defense similarity. There is no way we have the offensive firepower of Noah, Horford or Brewer.

Since the tourney expanded in 85, A one seed wins the tourney about 75% of the time. That does not sound like luck at all. The number one overall seed wins it just over 50% of the time.

No. 5 Florida Gators Swarming the Boards, Leading Nation

The Florida Gators take a team approach to crashing the boards, and they lead the nation despite lacking a singular-dominant presence. The Gators do not have a single seven-footer on the 'playing' roster. Likewise, no one weighs over 245 pounds. Yet, through all of that, no one in Division 1 basketball grabs more total rebounds. UF pulls down 45.7 boards per contest. Six players, two of which are guards snare at least five rebounds per game. According to teamrankings.com, Florida enjoys 7.2 extra chances per game, ranking 15th nationally. Moreover, that number jumps to 11.2 when they compete at the O'Connell Center. Solid rebounding wins games, and also breaks wills.
