This team looks like a true contender. Totally dismantled a good AZ St team. If we beat NC I think this team might be a true contender for the Final Four in the NCAA tournament. Anything less than a Sweet 16 would be a disappointment with this team.

The defense is what impresses me the most. So much better than last year. They dominated the boards today and whipped up on a pretty good team. The 3 guards were very physical on both ends and they made their free throws. Excellent game. Tar Heels are next.

The Gators started 5-for-10 from the field overall and made 3 of their first 5 shots from the arc.
By the 4 minute mark, the Gators had taken the lead for good.
By the 8 minute mark, the Gators had a double digit lead.
With 11:31 left in the first half, the Gators were up 22-10 with much of the plaudits going to Richard and his 10 points. The lead got to 13 with 5:31 left in the half. At the half they led by 9 Pts, 41-32. Clayton, Martin, and Richard accounted for 32 of the 41 Pts.

Then they played even better in the 2nd half. They went on a 21-10 run, to bust open the game and give them a 71-45 plus 26 Pt lead with 9:57 remaining.

Did anyone else notice that on Richard's POWER dunk, the ball actually looped around and went through the hoop twice???
So maybe he should have gotten 4 Pts on that one.....
😉

UF 83 - 58 (+25) --- For a very nice 10 - 0 start to the season!

Not Gators, but these two vids could be used as training films on how it should be done....
A small forward and a point guard that were even smarter than they were a physically gifted at the game.
There are 2 basketball players that are more fun to watch as a fan of the game than any others that I've ever seen, and here are the links to see what I'm talking about,,, if you're interested.... (if not interested, then just move on)

Shooting at all levels - Assist Passing - Rebounding - FT Shooting %, plus even Blocks and Steals.
They are 2 of the most COMPLETE All Around Players that I've ever watched play the game.

Well that sucked. Blow an 18 point lead and get your rump handed to you in the 2nd half. Too careless with the ball.

Closed with a 12-3 run. 😂

The Gators needed to be challenged in a hostile environment and they rose up to it very well. Dominated down the stretch. Committed a bunch of turnovers, couldn't handle the Tar Heels very quick and talented guard R J Davis. Plus they had a bunch of defensive lapses in the 2nd half and missed a bunch of free throws. And still found a way to win. Winning against a good team on the road when you don't play your best is the sign of an excellent team.

That was the most gutsy win in basketball in hell.. I can't remember when. We almost ran away and hid from them, and then we were doomed almost the entire 2nd half you could just smell it with the refs and crowd.. Finding a way to win these games is how you win in the Tourney in March.. This is the first time UF has been 11-0 to start the season since... yep 2006

This team could do something special, they know how to battle and it was the oddest thing ever seeing we had a CLEAR size and physicality advantage over a blue blood. This team is just big and deep, hard to beat with all the experience too. That was a fantastic win

Last night's game was a good test for the Gators. It was a hostile environment as Charlotte is any thing but a neutral court for the Tar Heels. UF quickly went to a double digit lead but UNC came back and took the lead late in the game. And this is where our Gators showed me something. They came back, took the lead and came away with a victory. Now UNC is not a good team and the ACC is weak but still, when you can come back in a hostile environment it shows character.

The SEC is going to be a war this year. I think the Gators are as prepared as any team can be facing a schedule that is coming soon.

My wife was watching the game with me and she commented several times on the size of our front line. Big Big and Bigger. I told her the Gators had a 7'9" big guy red shirting and that blew her mind. What?, she said.😃

The SEC will be a bloodbath this year. I doubt anyone can go 14-4 like TN did last season.

Neutral site my a$$! This is a UNC team that lost to three top 8 teams and to one top 25 team, but it's not getting easier for them once they get deep into their ACC schedule.

Oh, and Roy Williams is still a douche with a punchable face.

It would be crazy, but entirely possible, if the Gators atarted SEC play 13-0, then lost their first 2 conference games - @Kentucky, then at home to Tennessee. Insanely good conference this year - probably the best ever from top to bottom.

Yep if anyone goes 14-4 or better in the SEC this season they will likely be the favorite to win the NCAA tournament. I would think anyone that goes even 8 - 10 will likely make the touney also.

I think 4 of their losses have been to top 20 out of conference teams? I think they'll probably win the ACC title. If Golden keeps the Gators on track, we are in for a special year. We've got talent galore and they play as a team as well.

Clayton looked and played lackadaisical the whole game.
His shooting was bad, his passing was bad, hos Ast/TO ratio stunk on ice.
Did his girlfriend dump him prior to the game???
Yeah, I'm also willing to write ti off to an 'Off Night' but jusdamn!

The biggest deal to me however, was that was the WORST officials crew of the season so far imo.
They had to beat both NC and the frickin' game officials,,, but they pulled it off!

There have been a couple of other game with crappy officials in those first 10 wins, but because the Gator's were winning so big I didn't bother to whine about it. Last night though, the poor or biased officiating almost cost the Gator the game.

Props to the dudes for overcoming the poor officiating....

Also, Haugh and Aberdeen continue to earn their non-starter minutes, so Kudos to both...

The most egrecious one I saw was a moving screen on NC's center that got called a foul on UF. I wanted to throw a brick through my TV, the dude basically tackled him.

That one was so bad that I jumped outta my recliner and screamed at the TV!
🤬

I had to go out on the porch and smoke a bowl (tobacco) to calm down enough to finish watching the game....

Don't forget Duke and their freshman phenom, Cooper Flagg. They'll be a much scarier team when he improves on his game. He actually schooled several NBA players during scrimmages against the Olympic team.

I'm an Aberdeen fan, but I'd be very curious what his +/- was in that game (even with the good shooting stats). I thought UNC got a lot of their runs on us when he went in and our offense stalled/turned it over. I googled it and could only find that Haugh was +22 in only 20 minutes. We need more Haugh.

Yep Clayton has to cut down on the turnovers in games like this. He is probably not a natural PG but has to protect the ball better.

UF currently has three quad 1 wins. That is second most in the country behind Auburn with 5. SEC has 4 of the top 10 teams in Quad 1 wins (3 or more wins). These change daily though based on opponents performance. We have a couple neutral site wins on team hovering at breaking points between quads, including the fsu road game.

Although we haven't played highly ranked teams, the current record is solid.

We will find out real soon what the deal is with our 2 opening SEC games of KY and TN. Also the schedule has us catching the top SEC teams mostly on the road. We get no KY home game this season and TN is the only top 10 SEC team we get 2 games against. Top 10 Auburn, KY and Bama are all road games.

That was an insane call. I imagine a lot of things were thrown at the TV in Gator Land. My hands were empty or I would have had one less TV in the house.
