2024-25 Basketball,,, all things considered...

Seven months removed from verbally committing to the Florida men's basketball program, in-state guard Alex Lloyd put pen to paper Thursday and signed with the Gators, UF announced.

The 6-foot-3 4-star combo guard is considered to be a potent scorer at all three levels with an impressive ability to facilitate – aspects that led Lloyd to be a desirable addition by Florida head coach Todd Golden and UF's coaching staff.

Florida has a better team than FSU. Todd Golden has built a much more physical team compared to the one he inherited. They dominated the boards tonight, but turnovers kept the game relatively close. Plus, they often take bad 3's early in the possession clock instead of working the ball around. Too much dribbling sometimes, especially from Clayton & Aberdeen. Condon is a great garbage man - just does all the little things and is relentless. Liked the effort, but at times the execution was off. But first raod game and to get a win, especially in Tallahassee, was very nice.

Played sloppy but this team has the talent to make a tournament run.

National Scoring Defense Rating Comparison:

37. FSU 59.7 PPG - FSU gave up 28.6 more points to UF than their average.
153. UF 68.3 PPG - UF gave up 5.7 more points to FSU than their average.

Looks to me like it's a clear case of 'Who You've Played' so far that's generating the numbers.

National Scoring Offense Rating Comparison:

64. UF -- 88.3 PPG
259. FSU 73.0 PPG
Actual game score: UF 87 - 74 FSU (-13)
Currently with a 4 game win streak over the criminoles.

Gators badly need more passing drills in practice. A bunch of sloppy, slow, ill-considered, telegraphed pass attempts.
Had me pullin' my hair out at times.....

Golden is an analytics nut. He knows the team’s weaknesses and you can see the improvement.

With only 8 in the real rotation, Todd needs to get more into the games imo.
If not, that will likely hurt them across this season, and for those that remain for next season...

Not sure if you watched him in warm ups, but when I did prior to USF game, he moved ok, but not great. With great size comes great clumsiness. He has a lot of work to do before seeing the floor.
He was signed as project and that's what he is. If Golden and staff can develop him and he can work to get stronger with coordination, he could be a special player. But who knows what will happen?

No question he's a project player. Although some on here argued he otherwise...now we know...

I haven't watched that much but before this game people were saying we seem not to play as good when Haugh and Condon are both on the court together.

Clayton and Richard combined for 12 points on 5 for 18 shooting. They played awful and we still scored over 90 and won easily. If these guys are able to put it all together we will be scary good. But, not sure that will happen.

Martin was awesome tonight and Thomas Haugh had a big game. The most impressive stat vs. SIU was 25 assists to only 6 turnovers. Richard has been a steady, reliable 3 point shooter and he'll start hitting at his normal % soon. Clayton is still working on the balance betweeen being a distributing point guard and a scorer/shooter. He's still the best player on the team. This team is deep and talented. It's good when different guys step up to lead in different games. Makes it harder for opponents to game plan, IMO. Schedule gets much tougher now. Wake Forest up next, then either Minnesota or Wichita St., followed by Virginia, Arizona State and North Carolina. Go Gators!

What the team showed imo is that anyone can step up in a given game.
When someone has an off night shooting the ball, there are others to pick up the slack.
And remember that there's more to contributing to a win than just the points you score.
Clayton and Richard played well while others put the ball in the basket.
And my man Haugh also had a GREAT game, breaking his won Pts/Gm record as a Gator.

Points Scored:

Martin - 32 - Just short a basket on his personal best.
Haugh - 19 - New personal Pts scored record.

Condon - 8
Clayton - 7
Klavzar - 7
Aberdeen - 6
Chinyelu - 6
Richard - 5
Alexis - 3
Nine players scored Pts

Clarton - 4 Rbs, 4 Asts, 2 TO's, 1 Stl, 1 PF
Richard - 5 Pts, 3 Asts, 1 TO, 2 Stls, 2 PF's
So while not scoring big, they still combined for:
12 Pts, 9 Rbs, 7 Asts, 3 TO's, 3 Stls, 3 PF's

I bet you went wild when Mike White and Georgia beat # 22 St. Johns yesterday.

Sorry feveredbrains, I don't watch UGly B-Ball.
Unlike you trolls, I'm only interested in how the Gator teams are doing.

Now, here is a training film for the Gator players, especially the guards....
And it shows what the other players should be doing when they don't have the ball, and it ain't standing around.

While Florida's 6-0 start to its third season under Golden's watch has impressed, it should be noted that 5 of its 6 opponents fall outside the top-100 teams on KenPom.
Now the season starts to get 'real' with an upgrade in competition levels....

I say that if they want to continue to be winners, then they need to continue with the 25 Assists to 6 Turnovers way of playing the game for each other....

Instead of asking a player, 'how was your day,' they should be asking them 'what did you do to make someone else better?' (that's how the 04's won B-2-B NC's, playing for each other)
