In my town, people are too occupied with the Pelicans in the NBA playoffs to even know what's happening in the real world. They're just happy the mandate-passport system is lifted so they can go out to public places like normal. I should have no problems going to see it.

Not worried where I live. The Florida Panhandle is about as red as any area in the Nation, and we ALL carry.

I stepped up and spend 20-30 hours as the volunteer head coach of the only Varsity club lacrosse team in a 40 minute radius (while being the breadwinner for a family of 4). It not only costs me time, but in my first year I’m about $2800 in the hole. Our first fundraiser brought in $7500 so that changes next year, but it had to be done as we needed $8k in helmets.
I mentor young men on how to be better adults. I make them sign a sportsmanship, drug and alcohol and personal conduct covenant. I’ve kicked one kid off the team for it. Attendance is mandatory and kids will get kicked off for violations (haven’t had one yet). I have a kid who just witnessed his dad beat the shot out of his mom and now they’re getting a divorce. I even helped a kid who had a “burning when he pees” problem 🤣
The roster grew 12 kids this season and I expect to have to hold tryouts next season. We aren’t that good, 3-2 so far, but we’ve got 22 FR and Soph of a team of 32. We are going to be really good in 2-3 years.
So I am stepping up and serving my community. I have a responsibility to show up to games. It’s a little more important that making sure I attend a movie premier. I’ll support the cause on demand or via buying a DVD.
So I’m fine with my choices defining who I am. I do much more than many people do.
I can’t push my politics on my boys.
But sports at the youth and HS level teach many life lessons if the coaches use them as a vehicle to do so.
They were part of the basis for many of the traits that have made me successful (although much credit goes to my parents), and to try to give that back is important.
One young man wasn’t going to play because he had 4 F’s in 6 classes. I convinced his mom to let him play and now he has a 3.2. Sprints and the loss of the sport he loves turned out to be an awesome motivator.
I was bored to tears and unhappy with the quality of my often biased teachers, so I made 5 D's and a C on my report card. The C was in PE, all you had to do was show up and dress out to get a C. This was in 1960's Jr High.
My school consular was a bright guy. He called me in, and when I got there, my mother was already in his office talking to him. He asked me how hard was it to make 5 D's, without getting a single F? Jus-damn....😏
His solution, which my mother went along with, was to put me in advanced classes including BSCS lab Biology, X-English with the Girls Dean, and Algebra. My grades went up to B's with the occasional A or a C.
That allowed me to join his Aviation club. He was a private pilot that had built his own small single engine plane. I loved flying....
Stats don't mean squat once desire is figured in.
Rules are made for the undisciplined.
Stepping out of your comfort-zone is what makes life worth living.
And btw, inviting people to a movie party, is not forcing politics on anyone. People show up or they don't, with no consequences either way. Jus-sayin, and I'll leave it at that. 😇

The sad thing is that people should have been able to know the film was built on bullshit just from watching it. I don't know if its that so many people lack the ability to reason things out or if its just that they want it to be true so bad they lose perspective and perception. Probably some of both......but its the basis of what has created this whole problem and what threatens to take the country down.
