So we basically “traded UP”

So we let Tae’Shawn Gelsey leave — because he wanted to play WR — even though he is too slow and should be a tight end……..
And then took Dallas Wilson….. not far off on size but a LEGITIMATE WR …. 5*

I’ll take that trade ALL day !!!!!

(Side note, letting Livingston lose all that weight and become a TE instead of tackle looks like it is REALLY gonna pay off…. He balled in the bowl game and looks the part)

UF Athletic program ranked 14th most valuable

Maybe this will shed some light on things for the Circle Jerkers who for some reason think we should outbid everyone for everything.

I do, however, think that winning things again and getting into the playoff mix in 2025 will shoot us back up into the Top Ten.

Football Proposed rule for SEC dealing with portal transfers within the conference

I think it sucks that some SEC coaches apparently lack the ability to evaluate, recruit and develop their own players (such as Kelly, Kiffin, Heupel etc.) so they have to poach other SEC schools for developed talent. So my suggestion is:
SEC players in the portal would be labeled unrestricted transfers or restricted transfers
Unrestricted transfers
can transfer to any school without penalty and consist of any player:
1) told by his coaching staff he is a better fit elsewhere and not offered NIL money, thus he can transfer anywhere including other SEC schools
2) graduate students can transfer anywhere including other SEC schools
3) any SEC player that transfers to a school not in the SEC
However any player who wants to transfer from one SEC school to another SEC school and does not meet the first two requirements above would be labeled a restricted transfer.
Any SEC school that accepts a restricted transfer would have to pay the school the player is departing a development tax. The development tax would be $100k per year that player was on the departing school's roster, RS and/or active. (I chose $100k per year because that seems to be the consensus on this board of what a year's scholarship is worth, all things considered).
Does anyone think LSU would have paid UF $300k for developing Pyburn? Ole Miss $400k for Princely? UGA $200k for Etiene?
I am not a lawyer nor do I know all the nuances of the transfer rules but I think the SEC could implement this rule without legal implications. I do not think it is restraint of trade because there are over 100 schools a SEC player can transfer to without penalty that are not in the SEC. Let other conferences' schools attempt to poach whoever they can afford and let SEC schools poach anyone not currently in the SEC. But SEC schools should not be allowed to cannibalize each other without penalty.

Football Met a gator legend tonight unexpectedly

I was playing some poker in Daytona Beach, and there was an old gentleman sitting across from me. He asked if I liked and went to UF and I told him yes and he said he didn't go but loved UF.

The guy next to him asked me if I knew any roads at UF and the only one I could remember was Gale Lemerand.

He points at him and goes "That's him"

He was 86 and was incredibly nice and funny. You never know who your going to run into.

Another portal problem:

Hadn't thought about this issue:

From CNN —
Penn State University is playing its first game in the College Football Playoff in just a few days and is facing a shakeup in the quarterback room thanks to the sport’s wide-open transfer rules.

Sophomore QB Beau Pribula, the backup to starter Drew Allar, announced Sunday night that he’s entering the transfer portal and plans to leave the school he grew up rooting for, even though the Nittany Lions are in the hunt for a national championship. Stuck behind Allar, who is one of the most productive quarterbacks in school history, Pribula wanted a chance to play elsewhere.

Unfortunately for Pribula, he did not have time to make that decision. Unlike in professional sports – in which there are set start dates for free agency – the transfer portal windows allow for fluid athlete movement in college sports and a massive amount of shuffling takes place during the break in semesters of the academic calendar. That scramble just so happened to overlap with Penn State’s College Football Playoff push and forced Pribula to make a life-changing choice at a key time of year.

“The current NCAA post-season model creates a challenge for student-athletes,” Pribula wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The overlapping CFB playoff and transfer portal timeline has forced me into an impossible decision. After speaking at length with my family and coaches, it is with a heavy heart that I announce my intentions to enter the transfer portal and depart from the team to explore opportunities elsewhere.”

It was a tough decision for Pribula, who grew up in Pennsylvania and said it was a dream of his to play football in Happy Valley.

Head coach James Franklin told reporters on Monday that the situation is simply unfair to both the team and Pribula.

“I can give you my word: Beau Pribula did not want to leave our program and he did not want to leave our program until the end of the season,” Franklin said. “But, the way the portal is and the timing of it and the way our team is playing – and when you play the position of quarterback, those spots are filling up – he felt like he was put in a no-win situation. And I agree with him.”

Franklin said the way the sport is set up right now – with the most successful teams preparing for bowl games in December and the teams stuck at home trying to rebuild by recruiting transfers – is not in the best interest of student-athletes.
