Pondering on CBN’s First Year

The past year of Gator football has been a whirlwind of emotions; nothing short of a roller coaster ride, from lackluster to downright disgusting performances, questionable decisions, and huge changes.

I’m not exactly sure how Coach Billy Napier will do in his first year at Florida, but I have good feelings, whether that is do to the “new” feeling coupled with the exciting unknown, considering his short, but impressive, resume as a head coach, or simply getting rid of Mullen.

Beyond recruiting (which is a given at this point), what do you guys think is CBN’s biggest challenge this upcoming season?

Important cautionary lessons from SEC CG

The real transformation of Nick Saban has been acknowledging that you need an elite offense to be dominant today — because you are always in the game. Yes, Saban has built a huge operations in Tuscaloosa that recruits (it is not all Nick and his assistants), trains and develops players, and brings game day planning to an elite level. The new team at UF better understand this. Kirby didn’t. Thinking that he could win SEC championships with a third rate QB or without an elite offense was and is his downfall. This was a result that was seeded along time ago when Kirby thought that Stetson Bennett could them over the hump with a great defense. He was doomed to fail. For all you Mullen-haters, bounce to the next thread… compare the UF and GA matchups with ALA over the past two years. Kirby got beat TWICE by 17 points. Mullen lost the SEC CG on a late TD, and then earlier this year on a missed two-point conversion. Mullen also had UF within a TD against the Joe Burrows-led LSU NC team. Mullen understood that to compete in these games you had to bring an elite offense. His problem is that he failed to do all of the other things necessary to be successful… so we have a new HC at UF… it was inevitable. But that doesn’t mean the critical lesson isn’t there. BN has a lot to do to resuscitate this program, but he better understand that he will need to bring an elite passing offense to win on the big stage. Kirby doesn’t get it. Nick does and BN better know it to.

X&Os Thread

Just a thread for the folks who love the X&Os:

If we are indeed doing a 4-2-5 I think Diwun Black will be the most important piece as that Safety/OLB hybrid. That player will have to step in the box on run downs and play the TE on passing downs. He's super athletic, big and fast. Would be a good fit.

Quick Inside Access:

One on one meetings with the coaches were scheduled to start at 6 tonight and they got pushed back. From what I have been told the coaches have all met with Napier one on one other than one coach who is meeting currently. Some of the support/recruiting staff will have one on one meetings in the early morning. Napier will see by my count 12 kids this week for either in home visits or at the actual school. That will be my first story each morning this week Mon-Thur and will use that thread for Q & A purposes to make sure I do not miss any questions, comments, or concerns you have....I will answer them all day.....

NRA (Natural Recruiting Attrition) I use this term often. I think and I use the term think very carefully - we will see a few more from the current class end up elsewhere. If you all of the sudden seem some kids bounce out of the class you will understand. I hope this is not the case and a lot of this will be answered for us all by the weekend when we actually see who they allow to make the official visit. I wish I had some concrete answers for you but a lot of things are not decided on right now it would appear....You heard Coach Napier speak earlier today if not do yourself a favor and listen to his comments about the ENSD period....He is a plan in place 100% IF he thinks a kid is an impactful type of player he is going to recruit him and if not he won't it is that simple....See you all in the morning! Gateway Pundit Sued for Defamation by Election Workers

Excerpts:

'The lawsuit, filed in St. Louis Circuit Court, alleges that the Pundit’s “lies” about Freeman and Moss “devastated” their reputations and “instigated a deluge of intimidation, harassment, and threats that has forced them to change their phone numbers, delete their online accounts, and fear for their physical safety.” the suit says. Freeman went into hiding.'

'Trump, a Republican, and his surrogates falsely alleged that Freeman and Moss pulled “suitcases” full of fake ballots for Biden and processed them late at night on Election Day, Nov. 3, after most poll workers and election observers left. State officials including Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger quickly and forcefully debunked the allegations, explaining that the “suitcases” were standard ballot containers and the votes were properly counted under the watch of an independent monitor and a state investigator.'

'The Gateway Pundit covered the false allegations in multiple stories, including one that identified Freeman by name with the headline: “What’s Up, Ruby? Crooked Operative Filmed Pulling Out Suitcases of Ballots in Georgia IS IDENTIFIED.” The Pundit identified Moss in another story.'

'The Pundit stories continued through the summer, even as multiple audits and reviews confirmed the accuracy of Fulton County’s vote results.'

Co doesnt mean equal

I'm sure we have a mixed crowd, some fans, boosters, reporters and guys who coached/played, etc.

The term Co doesn't mean equal to...so when u hear Co DC that doesn't mean they share equal duties of play calling with the DC.

The "typical" set up is the main DC is in the box up top. They call the plays and relay them to the Co DC who then communicates with the players. Sometimes the DC is on the field but the DC is the play caller/ decision maker. The Co DC is the next guy in line that supports the DC. Same with OC.

It's not 100% of the time bc the HC delegates responsibility but 95% of the time that is the case

Hate

Lots of posters use the word Hate to describe our rivals , some even use words like sucks, f.. him to describe Gator players and Coaches.I hope that’s just being perjorative and not sincere. Most people here here don’t know are Coaches/ players or our opponents players, coaches. My instincts tell me we made a good hire, but if not, there’s more to life than Gator football, I am fortunate to have special Grandkids, And I can still catch fish and grow a garden. And have Directv and can watch most Gator Sports!

What do you want to see in recruiting?

We all want 4 and 5* kids

but for me I want balance. Our last three coaches stunk at that

ifnyou look at Bama, Ohio St, etc they take 3 CB, a S, a QB and 4 OL, and on and on. They recruit a roster.

Our last 12 years we take 6 DB and 1 OL.

Billy addressed organization in recruiting so I feel very confident we will clean this up.

What is it people hope to see?
