Gators Open Pair of Scrimmages to the Public
Florida softball opens up scrimmages on Saturday, Feb. 5, and Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m. to the public.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 6-ranked Florida softball program announced Wednesday afternoon that it will open up a pair of scrimmages to the public that are for scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m.

The Gators were recently ranked No. 6 by the 2022 USA TODAY/NFCA DI Top 25 Preseason Coaches' Poll and No. 5 by the 2022 ESPN.com/USA Softball Preseason Collegiate Top 25 Poll. The rankings mark the eighth consecutive season that the program has earned top-10 national rankings by both major polls.

This year the program returns a plethora of players from last year's squad, which includes a trio of NFCA All-Americans in third baseman Charla Echols (Newnan, Ga.), second baseman Hannah Adams (Hoschton, Ga.) and right-handed pitcher Elizabeth Hightower (Monticello, Fla.). The three standouts anchor a group of 16 returning contributors from last season, along with the addition of 2021 transfer Skylar Wallace and six newcomers.

Entering their first year with the program is graduate transfer, right-handed pitcher Marissa Mesiemore (Bushnell, Fla.), and a talented group of freshmen in catcher Cali Decker (Lake Mary, Fla), right-handed pitcher Lexie Delbrey (Bainbridge, Ga.), outfielder Kendra Falby (Odessa, Fla.), catcher Sam Roe (Destin, Fla.) and infielder Reagan Walsh (Redondo Beach, Calif.). Roe joined the program this January as an early enrollee and Mesiemore is a graduate transfer from FGCU.

Florida opens its 2022 season Friday, Feb. 11, at 5:30 p.m. against Illinois State in Tampa, Fla. at USF's tournament. The program's first home game is set for Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. against Jacksonville.

0/3 on the “big 3”

Not a good start, yes I am somewhat pleased with this transition class but to be in the “picture” for these 3 and to not get one is a bad look. You can make whatever EXCUSE you’d like to, but it’s a bad look. Hopefully Billy is a hell of an on field coach and the 2023 class is a lot better, and if it’s not we can just blame it on NIL money. Today sucked. GO GATORS!!!!

Quick Thoughts on CBN and NSD

I know some of you are disappointed. I’m not necessarily disappointed, nor am I ecstatic. The misses today hurt a little, but I am simply going with the flow of this weird transition year, while tempering expectations and beliefs.

This is a tough, awkward situation for any coach to be in, and I feel for Coach Billy Napier. He has a ton on his plate, and most, if not all, of the negative aspects we are experiencing now can be blamed on the previous staff and their short-comings and lack of work ethic in many areas (most notably, recruiting).

I reserve any solid judgement on UF’s recruiting for the 2023 class, when I can give CBN and crew a fair assessment and time to implement their program and practices completely; time to scout/review the top players from Florida and beyond; time for potential recruits to see CBN’s system and coaching on the field for a full season.

Feel however you’d like, but you’re asking our coach to hit the bullseye every time with a half-loaded gun. We must accept that some things are out of his control, and the stings of disappointment or anger some may feel today are actually remnants from the previous group of lackluster individuals that controlled the program.

Save your distrust and pessimistic opinions for when (IF) they are actually needed.

Farmer Situation fyi

He was all Alabama - It hinged on a TE Bama is recruiting. If the TE said yes to Bama, Farmer would not get papers or have the option to go to Bama. If the TE said No Bama would have sent papers and it would be Alabama. They did not send papers - Things happen for a reason and this kids dad is a HUGE gator fan so good for him I am sure he is fired up today about the recent turn of events. it was not until late late last night UF was made aware of the final situation.....
