New Story Women Claim No. 1 in Preseason SEC Cross Country Coaches Poll

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -
Florida's Men's and Women's Cross Country teams were predicted to finish No. 8 and No. 1 respectively in the 2024 SEC Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference announced Tuesday.

Florida earned nine of 16 first-place votes in the women's poll. Points for the men's poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13 basis, while points for the women's poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15 basis, where the fewest combined points determined the final ranking. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

The women's program enters the 2024 Cross Country season looking to repeat as SEC Champions after taking home the title in 2023. The SEC title was their first since 2012, and the seventh in program history. The men look to continue their forward momentum from last season, when they improved to seventh in the SEC Championship meet and tenth in the NCAA South Regional, up from 10th and 19th respectively in 2022.

The SEC cross country season is set to begin the weekend of Aug. 30, and Florida will compete in the UCF Invitational in Orlando that day to open the season. and the 2024 SEC Cross Country Championships are slated to take place Friday, Nov. 1 in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
