College sports is so dirty. Really wish it wasn’t this way.

Most of it arises from the fiction that they are playing amateur sports. College football and basketball generate billions. Coaches in the big 5 conferences make millions. Position coaches make hundreds of thousands. Of course kids are going to have their hands out.
Well I got told in the other thread cheating in college doesn’t happen. All these schools just land 5-star recruits with their charm. So there’s that.
If it is being done in basketball you know it is being done in Football.
Guy has made his living on being a recruiter, probably all of it tainted. He's probably made, what $8 million (his deal at LSU is $2.5m/year). Worst case scenario is he does 6 mos. in jail. Best case is the investigation drags on and LSU has to keep paying him, or pay him to leave. Cheating was probably worth it in this case.
Of course. It probably happens everywhere. Just like probably everybody does performance enhancing drugs. College kids probably get bought by gamblers on the regular, as well. There's too much money at stake.

I would love to see Duke go down more than just about any other college. The idiots in the media constantly hold coach K up like he is different, but I would almost guarantee he is not. If somebody like Duke basketball got caught, I think it might finally kill the sham that college sports are amateur

Look at what happened to North Carolina in the academic cheating scandal.......... Oh That's right nothing because they need them in the NCAA tournament. How about Louisville or Kansas in the FBI probe last year... death penalty? Nope.

As an Auburn fan, I find it comical how many people bring up Cam Newton like hr is the only player that has ever been paid or there is some smoking gun proof that he was paid.
A lot of the belief that Auburn paid him is built on the false narrative that Mississippi State offered him money so Auburn must have offered more. The problem with that position is Mississippi State has always claimed they never offered him any money
The family supposedly had to show their bank records before the NCAA would let Cam continue playing. Cam himself was famous among Auburn fans for driving around campus on a moped that he originally bought at Florida.
If the family was paid 180k like a lot of people believe, they must have hidden the money under their bed or something because nobody has figured where the money went to this day
I personally don't really care if he was paid or not. Even if Cam was paid, he is far from the only player to be paid. In fact, you can find many cases with more proof that the NCAA did nothing about

You're on the wrong thread Cuz! If you're gonna hijack a thread, at least discuss something that's related to the sport, like basketball. We'd love to hear what you can tell us about Georgia basketball and their "recent success" in the NCAA tournament. Oh wait! Georgia hasn't been in the big dance since 2008. Just like football, Georgia produces NBA players but can't win squat in the tourney let alone get an invite or win a conference title, regular or tournament as well.
Georgia basketball sucks this year, but I do think Crean will get us moving in the right direction. We have a 5 star and two 4 stars coming in that should help. It’s all about the Jimmy’s and Joe’s, and historically Georgia hasn’t done a good job of attracting big time talent. We did beat you all in hog town last weekend if I’m not mistaken.

You realize there have been multiple Alabama players under Nick Saban alone who have actually taken thousands of dollars from sports agents and an assistant strength coach, and these players were only suspended for 1 ot 2 games. Lol that Cam's career should have been over just because his dad asked for money.
A former Alabama player named DJ Fluker actually bragged on his twitter account about receiving money from sports agents during his college career and the NCAA did nothing about it

You're actually right in that he's certainly not the only one. Former Tennessee players from the Fulmer days have said as much in interviews. It happens all over the plave. Cam gets so much spotlight because it affected a championship and because it showed the NCAA is spineless when a school doesn't give in. The NCAA has no real power to investigate as they have no subpoena power.
Fox wouldn't play the dirty AAU game. Basketball is much dirtier than football as a whole.

Yep we all know what goes on and its at crazy levels at some of these schools. They have learned not to give anything to the investigators and to usually keep the coach disconnected from the mess if they have any sense.
Years ago they almost gave us the death penalty for making some child support payments for some players and not much else. Now these kids from poor backgrounds are routinely driving around in expensive fancy new rides after signing with schools.
Cam's father all at once had the money to make the repairs to that church the county was going to close down. People aren't naive - Auburn "fans" assisted with that as part of the deal to get Cam there.
money coming from Auburn to pay for these church repairs is another thing you can't prove. Cam has an older brother who was on the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars during his one year at Auburn. I also read that the person who did at least some of the repairs later sued the father forr non payment.
Yep he paid most of his whole year's practice squad salary to do those expensive repairs for his dad that were over 50K.
The brother also spent the final two weeks of the 2009 season on the Jaguars active roster. Considering the minimum NFL salary equates to 30 grand per game, he could have come up with the 50 grand just from those two weeks. You still haven't proven anything
