No one other than Grier is to blame for using an over the counter supplement that contained a PED. That said, did CJM blow the handling of this talented young man, which in the end, again put us in the hole for a signal caller?

What I'm saying here is strictly my opinion and is merely speculation on my part. Now I could be wrong but I think CJM desperately wanted Treon as his starter as a strategy to get his foot embedded in the fertile recruiting grounds down south. If this would have panned out, it may have been looked at as a brilliant move.
The problem was, his idea muddled what he saw in practice. While Will’s dad, Will himself and a host of onlookers were saying, “WTF!” The obvious talent divide between Will and Treon was deeper than the Marianas Trench. What was he thinking? The friction between all parties apparently started there. Will felt slighted and couldn’t believe what he was taking place.

While I am a big fan of Mac, in retrospect, his starting Treon on day one was a huge mistake. Again, IMO, he should have been more of a fatherly figure to Will after his blunder with one on one discussions to let Will know that he was not only wanted but desperately needed and he could overcome his mistake. Instead, I suspect that he couldn’t forgive Will for his violating a cardinal rule. Coach Mac lost faith in Will. At the same time, Will, had lost faith and respect for his coach after being left at the altar once before.

Grier assumed that there was a good chance that history would repeat itself. There had to be some discussion along these lines. Mac would not admit that he was wrong as a coach and the hostility between all parties intensified.

Don’t’ blast me for offering a scenario of what possibly went wrong. I could be totally off base. It amazes me that we have no clue as to exactly what transpired after the drug test. Perhaps I’m wrong that I feel that it should be made public. My bottom line though is that this was a failed strategy, a relationship between the coach and a player was damaged from the beginning and someone’s lack of humility got in the way of a successful outcome. And finally, we will suffer more losses because of this.
