Which SEC teams are losing the most to the portal so far?

I watched the Kansas vs Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl and Mullen was one of the commentators for the game. He sounds like a genius when commentating and talking football.

Honestly, he is, he just didn't care at all about recruiting

Ole Miss just getting throttled by a middle of the pack big 12 team. Can't believe anyone had them ranked in the top 10

Bowl games mean nothing now except for playoff. SEC will probably have losing record in them most years now.

That sounds cool for lesser teams in lesser conferences

Got to build in the excuse early, I understand, but the sec has been soundly beaten throughout the year and in bowl games. Not sure I would say they have been much better outside of UGA (blah)

UF has a good excuse as their best player and QB didn't play and their backup was a weirdo so they are the only team I'm giving a pass to so far. Texas Tech is just better than Ole Miss

I am just saying the SEC and a lot of other more talented teams are and will keep losing a lot of non-playoff bowl games with how things operate now.

They are losing because they aren't more talented though. Ole Miss just got outclassed by Texas Tech. I don't think it's a 1 size fits all like everyone is trying to make it. For UF, Richardson kept you guys afloat and nobody in their right mind holds that loss against you guys because you were playing with a 3rd string QB. Ole Miss just got beat by a better team. I think there is a clear distinction there.

I know most will want to claim all bowl games don't matter but I don't think that is true all the way around, it's not a one size fits all. Unfortunately for UF fans, the last few bowls you have had a ton of opt outs by the most important players so I see why that is the perception but that isn't nationwide. Make no mistake, Ole Miss just got beat by Texas Tech and Texas Tech was missing a few players.

If you aren’t in the playoffs, bowls have been reduced to spring game importance. For teams from lesser conferences playing an SEC team, that’s their Super Bowl.

Ole Miss had more talent than Tech this season. AR wouldn't have saved us. I'm glad he skipped though to show Miller doesnt have it.

SEC is the best conference in the country because it is the most talented conference in the country. They recruit the best and then when the NFL draft comes around the SEC players get drafted the most & the earliest. There is like 5-6 schools in the SEC that recruited top 10 classes and that doesn’t even include incoming Texas and Oklahoma. These are all facts.

This isn’t rocket science. Quit trying to make it out to something more than it is or trying to make it so complicated.

Heck Cristobal is a terrible coach IMO but if he keeps recruiting like they just did then Miami is going to be up near the top. It’s about the Jesse’s & Joe’s. Now Cristobal will still drop a game here or there because he stinks but talent wins out 9 out of 10 times.

Of course there are “1 game” scenarios or what I call “one offs” where upsets happen or the most talented team on paper doesn’t always win. But through an entire course of the season generally the cream rises to the top.

He’s trying to be like his fellow Nole Danny Kanell with the SEC hate. Weak sauce backed by nothing but his feelings.

Do people think Larry Coker, Ed Orgeron, Gene Chizik, etc won a national title because they were good coaches or good with X’s and O’s? You think Steve Spurrier, Urban Meyer, Bobby Bowden won national titles without big time talent?

The fact the 5 best recruiting teams (by composite ratings anyway) in the playoff era won 15 of the 16 semifinal games says a lot. I think Oregon beating FSU that first year was the only time the top 5 recruiters didn't win.

Yep that is correct but they had a big time college QB in Mariotta. QB position can be an equalizer.

I don't hate the SEC, they have the best conference, I've always said that and outside of fsu i enjoy watching SEC games more than any other conference because of the talent level. I've also always said it is MUCH closer than most SEC fans want to admit most yrs (granted there are some years where the SEC is just far and away better). Ole Miss was a top 10 team at one point, which is obviously not true. The only thing that annoys me about the SEC is when they just can't accept that there are other good teams as well. The SEC bragged for YEARS about bowl game wins but now that they aren't dominating them any more they say they don't matter. I'm a firm believer that not all bowl games are created equal, some of them I draw nothing from (this year's UF vs Oregon st) others I draw a lot from (Ole Miss vs Texas tech). Depends on the game. I think fans care less about them than the players and coaches, no players or coaches go into any game going "well, if we don't win who cares". They try to win and try to get better.

Due to the transfer portal, opt outs, playoffs and kids being more selfish the bowl games aren’t the same as they were 5-10 years ago. Many teams are going to bowl games without a lot of their starters or key contributors that lead them to get into that very bowl they are playing in. It wasn’t always that way.

Heck I’ll use the Wiscy vs Okie St bowl game as an example. Both teams played the game with their backup QBs because the starters hit the transfer portal. To me that’s just stupid.

Why would this only affect the SEC? Shouldn’t every conference be seeing players hitting the transfer portal?

And who sees Ole Miss as their “Super Bowl”?

Most non-playoff/New Years bowl games have always been a consolation prize. This isn’t a new phenomenon, unless you’re gonna tell me that the players were pumped up to play in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl or the Gaylord Entertainment Music City Bowl back in the day.

In theory it should affect the conferences the most who have the most NFL players and portal players in the 2 deep depth chart. Even when they are still playing and not sitting out their head isnt always in the game.

I have to say, u have been more right about kiffin than anyone else I've seen
He’s a really good offensive coach just like Dan Mullen but he neglects other things that are very important in being the head coach of a major football program.

I don't think it effects one conference more, Ole Miss had all their players. Teams it effects the most are ones that lose really important players who were vital to them playing well (Richardson for UF). It's similar to having a few injuries for most teams (we were missing 4 or 5 guys who were depth pieces and Fabien Lovett who is our best DT).
