Mac has done a very good job getting them to the sec east the last 2 yrs. Just had a HUGE win against a very good Iowa team. Where do u see the Gators ranked to START the season. I think 10-15 is appropriate

I don't really care about it because the media-morons have been incorrect the last 2 years under Mc, and they were not even close. It's not where the media-morons vote you to start the season that matters. It's where the CFP committee votes you at the end the season that matters. o_O

I'd be just fine with it if they have UF again as 'unranked' for 2017.

Florida will finish at about 13-15 this year and that is where the gators should start next season. Georgia may be the favorites to win the SEC-E but I would take the gators again!

I use to think this way butthe cfp committee does look at and USE the previous rankings. They said we beat a "ranked" Ole miss team when Ole miss turned out to be awful but they used those rankings.

I personally dont think rankings should be allowed to be released until the 6th week of the season

We'll be somewhere around 15-20 to hype the Michigan game.

That opening game against Michigan will be tough with a relatively inexperienced Florida team. Michigan could be equally as inexperienced as the Gators so there could be a lot of mistakes in that first game. Some freshman quarterback (i.e, Trask, Franks, etc.) should start with Luke Del Rio providing the back-up experience.

Hopefully, Florida will add a lot more play-makers to the offense than what we have seen this season. I am interested in seeing how Dre Massey will do this season along with Mark Thompson and company.

Randy Shannon will be Florida's new DC. Florida should field another fast defense next year. They will have to break in a lot of new people on defense, too.

rdgr, virtually all of the starters on the D already have playing experience.
The only position on the D that might have a true Fr starter is CB,,, maybe.

Does anyone else see a position where an experience player might be displaced by a new guy?

Many of the newbees might play some, but it's as depth, not as starters imo.

I like the Shannon defensive coordinator thing. Hes a good coach. I know hes been on staff for awhile but i like the promotion

DT as we will either need to use new guys or convert DE into undersized DTs, so this position is possible. And I won't rule out OL simply because we have a boatload of talent coming in with this class so I would not xompletely rule it out there. And we damn well better be starting a new QB

The first game will put us up there higher, the entire season and macs future pretty much rides on what we do there. You win you will beat a top ten team that's ranked too high after this season and lost a lot to the draft and then puts us around the top ten and then in the top ten a few weeks later until we play UT at home. That game is the season, and that offense is just like iowas with another awful QB. If we can't beat them honestly we need to move on anyway, with a year to prep our defense should not give up much to them with their one dimensional system and no threat down the field. If our defense is average to start the year there's no reason to get blown out in that game much less win. If we get beat you will be able to see the rest of the season right away

The Ole Miss FSU beat, that was up 3 TDs on Alabama and beat Georgia by 38 points wasn't awful. They became awful when they lost half the roster to injury. That should also be factored in.

Michigan probably lost more player than anyone in the country. I think the total is 19 senior or Draft eligible Jrs like pepper and one of the corner in the country... DUDE the whole team is gome .. I just to not see them as a top 25 game one .. maybe by year end they may be top 25 or even top 15 .. dont see it game 1. Honestly they lost just about the whole 1st team.

Shannon has an okay rep since he was a poor HC .. dude was the DC over a bama type defense for UM
During Shannon's six years as the Hurricanes defensive coordinator, his defenses consistently finished among the best in the nation:

dont see any learning curve for him at DC.

not saying UF does not have issues with some losses and QB but mich will be beatabel game one and Shannon will not be one of the issues .. JMHO

their defense turned awful as soon as everyone lost their knees in the fsu game

You trust our staff to out-prepare theirs?

"Hey, they were good when we played them, but they sucked after that! That is not our fault!"

You're right. They certainly didn't prepare well for Iowa.

You know, what will you do if we beat Michigan?

After all, you shy away from acknowledging their many weaknesses and losses going into next year.

Are you really going to pretend to know about football and make your reasoning "Harbaugh is awesome, Mac is a loser, we don't stand a chance, no matter what."

They lost one DB against FSU.

Yeah they lost to Bama 48-43. They sucked so bad at the start of the season. Losing a top 5 QB midseason means nothing.

they scored two garbage TD's at the end of the game after giving up 2 defensive TD's and the game was over

Didnt they start 1 and 3?

Indeed they did. But hardliner has to assuage himslef the 40 point loss to UL was not so bad, and losing at home to UNC was not so bad, all because Ole Miss was "omgomgomg so awesome at the beginning of the year. arghhhhhhhhhhhhh!."

Any idiot that tells you the 40 point thumping by Louisville was not bad is just FOOLING themselves. They are FSU fans so its easy to do. Louisville probably could have scored 80 if not more.

As bad as the Louisville loss was, the UNC loss to me was far worse. Louisville at the time we played them had no injuries and were firing on all cylinders with a Heisman QB. UNC has a great QB as well but that was just a melt down against a far worse team than Louisville. We take the lead with 20 seconds left and they march down the field like Tom Brady against a high school team. It was flat out embarrassing.

Both of those losses were AWFUL losses. I could see Louisville beating us, even predicted it, but I thought the UNC game would be like the USF game where they challenged us but couldn't stop us.

Possibly.

They out prepared Coach O and the Bayou Bengals. They out-prepared veteran coach Kirk Ferentz and Iowa. They out-prepared Kirby Smart and the UGA Bulldogs.

No they didn't out-prepared Nick Saban and the Tide, hardly anybody does. The talent gap was huge. Talent was the case vs FSU. Butch Jones out-prepared them in the second half of the UT game. Honestly I just think the UT players wanted it more. Arkansas was head and shoulders more prepared for the game.

So who knows. Some games we look ready...Some games we don't.

Ferentz, Ogre and Kirby aren't Harbaugh.

Both Jimbo and Butch made us look silly with halftime adjustments. And Harbaugh made much better adjustments than Jimbo in the bowl game. So imo, we need to have a big lead headed to halftime to win this.

I don't think Harbough made better adjustments. We lost our 4th safety(trey marshall). We lost him for 2 possessions of the Clemson game(2 tds), we lost him for 2 possessions of the Michigan game(2 tds). Had more to do with personnel than adjustments.

Collins was killing the defense this year, when teams and QB's get used to looking at the same thing over and over again they start making plays.

Randy might save the defense and Macs job for another year, in one game you saw the massive difference iv'e been talking about when someone is coaching it and being aggressive.

I think Randy is a heck of a defensive coordinator. I love him until the last 2 min. He starts playing that prevent defense

that's better than doing it the entire game, and that means you have a chance to win.

this is who we are now

Oh yeah, not knocking Randy at all, he is a great recruiter and great defensive coordinator

Well, they started 1 and 2 with a win over Wofford lol Then they lost 3 of the next 5 games. Started 3 and 5. Ole Miss sucked
And they played FSU and Alabama in the first 3 weeks. Then they beat Georgia by 40. But they sucked. You're right. The team they had in September was exactly the same team they had in December. Losing a top 5 QB and slew of starters mean nothing.

Nope. His recruiting record doesn't show that. Miami only had one top 10 class when he was head coach.

He is not a head coach. He is a coordinator and he was part of assembling one of the greatest teams of all time. He is a good recruiter

When did Chad Kelly get hurt?

I agree. Jimbo has had at least one of those kinds of losses in 5 of his 7 years as a head coach. In the two years that he did not, his team won the NC one year and in the next, went to the playoff and got absolutely pounded. Of course, both those years he had Winston. Which Jimbo gets credit for recruiting, signing and developing him.

But without Winston, Jimbo is going to have at least one head scratching loss every year. That is known. Sadly, only one has been to Florida over that time period.

The Hardblow has been playing with another staff's upperclassmen so far, (unlike with Mc, that's rarely mentioned).
In 2017 he will have a team that's mostly recruited and coached by him, just like Mc-Staff will. That game should be interesting, but I don't think the season depends on it like with the annual Tn game.

QB better be a new guy (Franks-Trask-Allen-other), or I'm going Wack-O on Mc-Nuss.

DE Sherit rsSr - DE Zuniga rsSo - DE Clayton So
DT CeCe Jr - NT Clark rsJr - DT Bryan rsJr
Both LB and Safety already have pretty solid position starters too.

LT Ivey Jr - LG Harkless rsJr - C Mccoy rsSo - RG Riles rsSr - RT Taylor So
LT Mike rsJr - LG Buchanan rsSo - C Heggie rsFr - RG Jordan Jr - RT Johnson Jr
(center and LG look to me like the most contested starter spots for 2017)

If any true Fr is good enough to beat any of those big guys out for a starter's job, then the talent/depth has really improved! While it's still certainly possible, it's just not very likely imo. Injuries during the season may see several or them, or none or them, end up in starter positions.

To me, one of the Fr CB's (and a rsFr QB) have the best chance at winning a starters job in 2017.

The offensive skill positions (RB-WR-TE) are LAY-O-DED imo for 2017. Backup playing time and injury replacement is also what they will be working to earn, unless there's an Emmitt Smith type/quality recruit hidden in there somewhere... :)

That was a good, clever defense you saw in the Iowa game.

Yeah everyone always says this about him and it is true. But I think that is true for MOST teams. Look at the Gators 2008 title. Lose to Ole Miss at home. It happens.
