Moderates are totally irrelevant in American politics at the moment. Moderates only have any say in the election process when one or both parties are running centrist candidates. Neither party is doing that now, so moderates have no say in politics at the moment.
That will change when the major parties start running centrist candidates again. I suspect that will be at least 20 more years of irrelevance for them.

Your point about moderates is only accurate if they decide to stay home. Otherwise they are still picking the least of two evils and their vote counts the same as someone with 7 Trump flags on their truck or a Biden/Harris bumper sticker.
They will decide to stay at home, that's the point.
Moderates want centrist candidates. They won't have any to choose from in 2024 and likely won't for a long, long time.
So they will stay on the porch, and they will stay irrelevant. If we get back to a time where one or both parties are nominating centrist candidates, then moderates will have more say in the political process.
But right now, they have almost none.

Hussein set back race relations 30 years. He refused to condemn muslims for attacking us with cowardly suicide attacks. I have a very good friend in the military that was in Syria during Hussein, and Trump. Hussein could/would not get ISIS defeated...and when Trump got in office...they were gone in months. I asked him if he could disclose the difference...he told me the Hussein admin required approval from Washington before pilots could drop ordinance, and many times planes would come back without dropping their ordinance. Trump gave the Generals on the battlefield the decision to make instead of calling a politician/...and the result was 8 times more ordinance dropped month to month.
