Well, with a new year dawning and the Spirit of Christmas still lingering, I thought I would offer some OPTIMISTIC hope for the 2022 Gators.
I heard this the other day, so went ahead and checked on uga's defensive depth chart for next year. It is actually quite promising in that 8 of 11 starters are seniors and that doesn't count some juniors who could leave early. There is not a sophomore or freshman on the first string. Now I know many of you will say that they can just plug and play one of their 5 or 4 star youngsters, but the fact remains, their defense is getting completely gutted after this year.
Now consider that on offense they will lose a couple offensive lineman, WR's and RB's in addition to losing Stetson Bennett. If JT Daniels sticks around he is injury prone, so it is easy to see that they could have an offense that will struggle at times.
What does it all mean? It simply means that while BN has a rebuild in front of him, the talent and experience gap with us and uga will not be as great as it was this year. If we can keep most of our defense intact (bonuses being that Miller and Cox return and maybe Elam and Dean) then we should be able to go toe to toe with them.
That being said, my Christmas wish is that Michigan beats uga and we get to see an epic meltdown in Athens as their best chance in decades to win a natty or SECC is squandered away.
Of course, a lot of this is conjecture and hope, but with a new year dawning, one can dream!
