UF WBK: Gators Set to Begin Three-Game Homestand with Dayton
Wednesday will mark Florida's first home game since Nov. 22 against USC Upstate.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida women's basketball is set to open up a three-game homestand on Wednesday when they welcome Atlantic-10 preseason favorites, Dayton, to Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET and is the first game of a double-header, with Florida men's basketball taking on North Florida at 7 p.m. ET. Kyle Crooks and Brittany Davis will be on the call on SEC Network+, as well as 98.1FM/850AM WRUF.
Parking restrictions will be lifted on the second and third floor of the O'Connell Center parking garage for the doubleheader, but fans must have a men's ticket in order to attend the men's game at 7 p.m.
Wednesday will mark the third meeting between the Gators and Flyers, with UF holding a 2-0 series lead. Florida captured the victory in their most recent meeting, taking down Dayton 83-69 on March 23, 2014 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
During their last outing, the Orange & Blue captured an important win over Texas Christian in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, helping the SEC to capture the challenge title, 6-4. The Gators defeated the Horned Frogs, 63-54, behind a season-best 22 points from Lavender Briggs and 12 points and 11 rebounds from Kiara Smith. As a team, UF forced 23 turnovers, leading to a 16-2 fast break advantage.
With her 22 points, Briggs moved to 920 career points, just 80 away from becoming the 27th-member of the 1,000-point club at Florida.
Sunday's game saw the Gators overcome a 2-of-18 (11.1%) three-point shooting performance against TCU to earn the victory. It was the worst three-point shooting night in a win since Feb. 28, 2016 when they also ended 2-of-18 while defeating Auburn, 56-49.
Throughout the season, the third quarter has seen the Gators at the top of their game, outscoring opponents 168-121 during the frame. Florida has been almost as good heading into halftime, outscoring opponents 174-142 in the second quarter.
Individually, Smith's defense has risen to an elite level during the 2021-22 campaign, as she currently sits at 20th nationally with a total of 25 steals on the year. She also ranks 65th in the NCAA in steals per game, averaging 2.50 per outing.
