Faces USF Friday at 2 pm. South Alabama and Baylor meet in the other half of the regional bracket. The winner of the Gainesville Regional will face the winner of the #13 Duke Regional, which has UNC-Greensboro, Georgia & Western Kentucky. Oklahoma is the #1 seed, UCLA #2, Alabama #3, Oklahoma State #5, Arkansas #6, LSU #7 and Missouri #8.

Very tough schedule - #6 in RPI, #2 in SOS. They played 31 games vs. Top 25 teams, by far the most in the country. Alabama was next with 27. By contrast, Oklahoma had 15, FSU 16.

FYI -- NCAA D1 Softball RPI Ratings:

1. UCLA
2. UA
3. UF

4. Choke-la-homo
5. OK St
6. LSU
7. Ark

8. FSU
9. Tenn
10. TX
-----
13. Mizz
18. UK
19 UGly
=====

So, 8 of the Top 20 RPI's are SEC teams.

The 8 Super Regional winning teams will play in the WCWS.

I mentioned in my original post that the winner of the Gainesville Regional meets the winner of the Duke Regional. Duke is the seeded team, but Georgia is actually hosting that regional in Athens.

How did that happen?

The NCAA announced 20 potential sites to host regionals a couple of weeks ago and Duke wasn't one of them, Athens was. Duke surprisingly won the ACC tournament after finishing 3rd during the regular season and got the #13 seed. They put them in the Regional site closest to their campus - Athens. Duke is the #1 seed, but UGA hosts. Something similar may happen in baseball, too.

Interesting. I would be pissed if I was Duke.
