Inside the Gators was on hand for the start of Florida's Tuesday practice, held inside of the indoor practice facility at its beginning. Below are a list of observations ITG was able to make from the open portion for media.
--During 11-on-11 fastball, freshman defensive back Chauncey Gardner lined up at safety alongside Marcell Harris, in the absence of Nick Washington (ankle). Meanwhile, Duke Dawson lined up at nickelback once again, as the Gators went with a 4-2-5 look on defense during fastball.
--After practice, Dawson said he and Gardner have been playing at multiple spots in practice this week, including nickel and safety, while Gardner has seen reps at both strong and free safety.
--Once again, LB Jarrad Davis (ankle), QB Luke Del Rio (shoulder), DE Bryan Cox Jr. (lower leg) and C Cameron Dillard (knee) weren't available at practice. LB Alex Anzalone (broken arm) was not dressed out but is no longer in a sling, now wearing a protective brace for his cast. Anzalone was going through non-contact fundamental-based drills with his teammates despite not being dressed. S Marcus Maye (broken arm) attended practice but watched from the sideline, wearing a hoodie over his arm in a sling.
--Kavaris Harkless was at LG during fastball, with Martez Ivey not available at the start of practice and being a late arrival as he was attending a class, per UF.
The first-stringers on offense:
QB Appleby
RB Scarlett
WR Callaway
WR Powell
WR Cleveland
TE Lewis
LT Sharpe
LG Harkless
C McCoy
RG Johnson
RT Taylor
--On defense, David Reese and Kylan Johnson once again worked with the first-team LBs with Davis and Anzalone sidelined. QB Feleipe Franks and RB Lamical Perine saw the reps with the 2's in the backfield.
--The 1st-string offense found success against the defense in fastball, with Appleby connecting with Lewis for a TD pass over the middle. On the next play, Callaway couldn't haul in a deep throw from Appleby toward the end zone, as Quincy Wilson had him well-covered.
--LB Jeremiah Moon continues to dress for practice in a scout team jersey, while wearing a cast for his thumb he had surgery for earlier in the year.
