Transfer Portal 2023-2024

ETN's NIL value is $264K, that will skyrocket when he transfers

Not sure what his NIL value is to other teams but that On3 figure is a joke in many cases and it is laughable how they generate the number. I am curious to see what someone gives him though to play for a season if it does come out. Someone with big boosters needing a RB may pay him pretty good. If he really is demanding 70% of the carries I think it would need to be a team without a good RB right now due to his poor blocking skills.

His primary concern was probably maximizing draft value.

He needs to find a team to pass to him quite a bit then and learn how to block better if he really wants to maximize it. I hope he doesn't go to GA or FSU. This is not a good look for Napier though when it comes to landing young recruits.

From what I have heard and read he could possibly be staying in the SEC with Georgia, Bama or LSU. FSU seems like a long shot but they were mentioned also cause he doesnt want to be too far from his brother Travis. Maybe even Ohio State could be a player in the ETN sweepstakes. He is the #1 rated RB in the portal

College football will destroy itself. Fans will care less and less when they realize they care more than the players. It’ll take time but it can’t continue like this. The portal is ridiculous and NIL is out of control.

If Etienne ends up at Georgia it only proves my point more. We hate Georgia and want to beat them. He is on the team we cheer for and then leaves and goes to their team. When he played for Florida did he have the same fire and passion for the Orange and Blue as the fans?

Obviously not. These players do not care about this program or team. We do. They don’t. At some point fan bases need to realize this. It’s a one way relationship.

You are correct.

NIL and transfer portal is a perfect reflection of society today.

I don't believe the student athletes that initiated this wanted anything more than to be able to work and get some compensation for the sales of their jerseys and video game likenesses.

The combination of the transfer portal and NIL has turned a large number of student athletes into mercenaries and a large number of colleges into de facto farm teams for the NFL.

I was hoping someone would realize that the combination would result in pay for play but apparently money talks and nobody cares about amateurs playing for the love of the game, commitment to your school and your word, and a college education.

Kendall Jackson, the defensive lineman from Gainesville Buchholz who back off his long time commitment to Florida a couple of weeks ago, committed yesterday to Miami.

Maybe. Emmitt Smith played for an absolutely abysmal Gator team, it neither hurt his draft value nor his NFL career.
Emmitt was a much better blocker than Trevor, and I thought Georgia was loaded with incoming running backs. Especially the RB who decommitted from UF.

Yep NIL allowing legal booster payoffs have got a lot more kids paid than would have made hardly anything off a true market based NIL value but its also made the top ranked recruits and portal players get paid a lot. In a booster free NIL market only a few players would be cleaning house.

He's demanding carries? Lol, what a be-otch.

You should have seen his brother Travis, he can't block either and it showed against Cleveland.

It sucks seeing Trevor go, but RB's are a dime a dozen.

Another JuCo, cause he's done so well with his other JuCo's so far.

But hey, it's always good to get a guy that someone else has already coached up....

With 1,383 currently in the portal, maybe Billy should just concentrate on portal xfers and not worry at all about getting a HS recruiting class full of those recruits with no college experience... 🙄

Portal is the way of CFB now. Texas has 24 on current roster, Michigan has 15, Washington has 14 and even Bama has 11. Look at FSU, I believe that 15 of their 22 starters were transfers. Just relying on HS recruiting won't be enough to build a championship team. I hate the portal, but you have to use it.

You certainly have to look at it some, even if you're among the top high school recruiters. Three of the 4 Heisman finalists were transfers (4 of the top 5), and I think I heard that 5 out of the last 7 winners were transfer guys.

A program that knows what it's doing should stick to HS recruits and only take portals to fill unexpected holes that can happen through injury or early departures to the NFL, but that's not today's Socialist-U... 😣

All the top programs are loading up on portal kids now. They are snagging transfers left and right. Has nothing to do with knowing what to do. If you want to win, and keep winning, you have to get transfers. Hate it, but it's even worse in hoops. Last 3 championship games both teams have been full of transfers. Hell, Baylor won the title with 5 transfer starters.

It's a whole new world out there and Florida is so far behind the eight ball on this that it's going to take somebody special to catch up. Great recruiting of high school kids, plus filling needs by getting elite portal players is what is needed and too many good coaches have already got it figured out and we're in deep s**t for many years, I'm afraid.

You might be right. But then again, because of the portal you can now build a contender in a year or two. FSU is a prime example. They weren't killing it on the recruiting trail, but their coach figured out how to maximize the portal. We have some huge holes along both lines that can really only be addressed through the portal. But they have to be the right portal moves. O'Cyrus, Johnson and Mertz were portal hits....the others have not been. Napier moved too slow last year.

Good data, really missed Braun, Helm and Henderson. They could have helped us big time this year. A couple of others would have given us some depth at positions of need. I still remember a poster on here that was adamant Whittmore was better than Pearsall. His whopping 3 receptions at UCF a difference maker.
