Tigers @ Gators...

The big oversized nose guard really doesn’t do much. Zero pursuit.
Steven,

Assume you mean Desmond Watson - too fat & too slow.

I looked at size of DT/NT on all NFL teams - none of them are that heavy - biggest about 345. NFL concept is you have to be able to get to the action quick enough to do some good.

Watson maybe OK for short yardage but not capable otherwise.

Ethan White & Jaheim Oatis (Bama DL) started out same weight (400+) as Watson - both of them down to 335 or so; Watson doesn't seem to care.

Jaheim Oatis. Oatis arrived in Tuscaloosa in January (bright kid - Early Entry) weighing in at over 400 pounds and has since lost over 70 pounds. Oatis has been one of the more impressive defensive linemen during fall camp and should see quite a bit of playing time this fall.

And we put a man in motion coming across the snap. Ready for the end around, AR pulls it back and hands it to Ettienne right up the middle.

just like a play before when they're going off left tackle and he stuffs it into his RBs hands as the guy linebacker is right on him instead of keeping it himself with the more open field.

Don't get it.

Blame coaching all you'd like but these are decisions the QB is making that are killing us im the run game.

If you aren't going to run, and you're not a great passer, you're practically useless
Isn't AR just a sophomore? Give him time, college is way different than high school. How many games did Tebow win as a starting Sophomore? He made a lot of mistake as a Sophomore even though he won the Heisman. You all expect them to play as a Junior or Senior as Sophomores but it is not going to happen. New Coach, some what of a new system, give him time. Each game will build him. Next year they are going to be unstoppable, you heard it here first hand, bank on it. If they are smart, they will stay on the roster for the next two years and do something no other Florida team has done. Keep watching, its going to happen, mark it down.

He still has time but he is a 3rd year player that has played in like 13 or so games. He has reached the point there is no experience excuses. Tenn game gave me some hope he can get it together eventually though.

Tebow totally dominated as a 2nd year player with a young defense.

Oooof Dude, I can't believe somebody is bringing Tebow into this. For the record, Tebow, in his sophmore year, inluding bowl, threw 6 interceptions. AR has matched that in 5 games. Tebow took care of the ball and that's the biggest liability issue with AR15. The other stats aren't even comparable.

So, what are these mistakes of Tebow in his Sophmore year that you are making in comparison to AR15?

HAVING SAID THAT, it's not fair to compare him to Tebow, because Tebow was a freak in talent, performance, and leadership. Tebow is the type of qb you may only see once every few decades.

We are the ugliest 4-2 in college football but just think we are a few plays away from being 0-6 or 6-0. AR was 8-14 today with 66 yards passing. 1 td and 1 int. That sh!t isnt gonna cut it in the SEC. Mizzou had 370 total yards to our 297. Mizzou had 21 first downs to our 13. Time of possession was Mizzou 36:09 to our 23:51. Something has to change somewhere and at this point I have NO idea where. I was so frustrated with our team today that I left the house at halftime and went and ran errands and found out the outcome on my phone. I just dont know how much longer I can watch this team.

Coaches must have made some adjustments at halftime because the running game really broke open the 2nd half. Our 3rd down defense is horrendous!. Got out with a W and right now that's all that matters.
I was pleasantly surprised with our running game today. We have a good stable of running backs, and for once in a long time, our O line doesn't suck. I'll try and stay positive, this is a rebuilding year. Billy damn sure makes some head scratching decisions on clock management, time outs, and two point conversions though.

Good analysis. Sometimes the margin between zero and hero is razor thin. It applies to this team for damn sure.

Something does need to change, but I doubt that change will come this season. The team is just broken on both sides of the ball. I just don't think AR15 is the guy people hoped he would be and I don't think he ever will be half of that expectation.

I would love to be wrong. However, even when he does well in one game, Im still no more confident in him the next week.

As for the defense, we are still similar to being 3rd and Grantham and he's not even here anymore. Mizzou was 9/17 on third downs and they aren't amoung the best SEC teams.

Gators only had 67 yards at the half. Offense had some success in the 2nd half. Defense certainly bent today but only gave up 17 points. Mizzou always plays us close and tough...take the W and don't overanalyze it.

I am convinced he will never be real good unless he gets fired up and weaponizes his running ability. Couldn't believe on that 4th down run he waited so long to take off when you just need 2 yards and that hole had opened up.

What in the hell was that at the end of the half? Make MO rush their kick team on the field. Don't call a time out and give them time to lineup. WTF?????
I don't shout at the TV too much any more, but I made an exception for that set of decisions.

They do play harder but not much better

True, but that's going to take time and player changes/recruitment.

I suppose the change we had a reasonable expectation to see in year 1 was a culture change and maturity. The past couple years the team acted cocky and immature. The secondary would commonly pose on the field after 1 incomplete pass after being abused all game long and losing late in the game. Dont get me started on the times the players were giving up on plays........

Reports of how Mullen catered to players in practices was well reported on. Wbtw, I have no doubt contributed to the problem.

So far, I do think Napier has done a good job on changing the atmosphere. It doesn't look like the players are playing for a "best buddy" head coach anymore.

LSU is coming up....and I'm confident that we aren't going to have a sequel to the shoe-throwing incident.

For a noon game…sadgator normally has his first shot of bourbon around 10:30 with a hand-crafted Espresso drink…(yes, it’s a bit redneck and gay at the same time)…

it makes for a looooong day…
Will you still be posting here after all the glitz and glamor you'll receive upon the release of your film debut in Brokeback Mountain 2?

Kinda like our defense…
Really? Hope you're being cynical. As of today, UF is #125 out of 131 teams in 3rd down defense, #112 in 1st downs allowed, #110 in rushing defense, #63 in passing yards allowed (only because teams run at will and don't need to pass much) and #99 in total defense.

Good info. I, also, agree that Mr. Smack should be given a chance. Apparently they were neck and neck in fall practice competition. Mihalik got off to a nice start, but you gotta have a kicker who can make 45 yards field goals, especially since it seems like we're going to be in a lot of close games.

The Ghost of Grantham must have run through the tunnel today. So many busted coverages. One play there wasn't a DB within 10 yards of their wideout. Not just backed up, not even lined up in front of him.
Navigator,

Toney DC, like Grantham, is overmatched against SEC offenses.
In the Sunbelt, they didn't have to contend with the athletes he now faces.

Be DAMN glad we don't play the Mississippi Schools, either one of them would carve us up !

King,

we already hold the SEC record for shoe throwing so no need; although it will help to get you drafted by the NFL.

I'll settle for beating LSU, which after Tenn's 40-13 victory looks possible.

With Napier as HC, it will obviously be a 21-20 cliffhanger with Gators having to overcome more of Napier's inscrutable Analytics.

I don't think it's analytics, I think he's just playing for the feel of the game. As he says, "scared money don't make money", for better or worse I suppose.

Hmmm it is a little early to say Toney is overmatched after just 5 games. Yes the defense is bad. Some of it is coaching and some of it is personnel/talent. It is likely going to take more than 1 season to fix the stench that was left behind on the defensive side of the ball.

Ok. Here’s my take half way through the season. Recruiting has picked up, players are lined up, no embarrassing post game antics(or halftime brawls) players hustling to the very end, no dumb penalties. I could go on. Yes there have been a few gaff’s but man are we better than last year? No doubt.

3RD AND LONG

"The Gators took a step forward on defense today. Florida totaled 13 tackles for loss, the most since the 2019 opener against Miami. The one glaring issue was 3rd and long. The Gators gave up WAY too many today. Late in the game the Gators gave up a 3rd and 23 and 3rd and 14, nearly back-to-back. The good news is the Gators forced 17 third downs today. Napier said he believes this issue is easily correctable."

^^^This right here is a major concern going forward. It's like Fat-Ass Grantham never left the program. We gave up 3rd-&-18, 3rd-&-22, and 3rd-&-17 situations for first downs against a lackluster Mizzou offense. Playing zone defense in 3rd downs never works. The DC have to stick with the stubborn man defense that gets them the advantageous 3rd-&-long situations. And then these situations could produce more sacks and possible turnovers plus short field for the offense.

No shoe throw yet!!
But yes the team plays harder and I would say more disciplined when it comes to “stupid” stuff.

I remember an episode of Seinfeld where Jerry gave a ride to a guy who stunk so bad he left his smell behind in the car after he left. No matter what he did, Jerry could not get rid of the smell.

Grantham is that guy.
