Schools had, have and will continue to always have the overall upperhand in the recruiting process. Yes, sometimes a kid (see Shavar Manuel) will back out of a pledge late in the game and 'screw' a school over. However, schools 'screw' kids over just the same.

This young man had been committed to Ohio State for a year, they started getting better prospects at his position, so they change up and ask him to consider greyshirting - knowing full well that would probably force him out of the class.
