There is NO WAY they play come September...

I am a registered Republican just so I can vote in the primary elections, since Florida has closed primaries. Both parties are to blame for the mess this country is in. Both are beholden to different special interests and we the people are seldom factored in, except as a source of revenue to fund their pork. And yet we keep putting the same people back in office - both parties. In fact, I am a Tea Party Conservative with Libertarian leanings in some areas and will vote for any candidate of any party who upholds the ideals of limited government, low taxes, upholding and enforcing all laws equally, not using our military as a world police force and abiding by the Constitution. The Democrat Party has moved so far left JFK's beliefs would make him a Republican today and there are only a small group within the GOP who are true conservative constitutionalists. It's a sad state our country is in, as each generation gets dumber and dumber and most people no longer understand the concept of critical or rational thinking. I truly fear for what America will look like when my 4 grandkids are adults. The national debt alone is going to force a financial collapse at some point. The national debt doubled under Obama's 8 years and we've added another 4-5 trillion to that number in 3+ years under Trump, much of it over the last 2 months as "stimulus". It's unsustainable and nobody is willing to do what's necessary to start to fix it. As long as people keep getting their "stuff" from Uncle Sam they'll keep voting these jackasses back into office so they can continue to empire build at our expense, mortgaging the well being of future generations. Can't last.

The Democrats have moved RIGHT. Who are you trying to kid?

What would you think of a president who worked for warmer relations with communist nations, imposed wage and price controls, brought home our troops from a war that was ultimately lost and that loss advanced the cause of communism, pushed Israel toward peace, created the Environmental Protection Agency, desegregated schools, created affirmative action, etc.

That was Nixon.

And Democrats HATED him for being so conservative. Did that sound like a conservative agenda to you?

The reality is that the Republicans, who used to be a party with a reasonable foreign policy and a business-centric domestic policy, have turned into a giant John Birch Society. Ya'll have lost your damn minds. You have moved so far right that you have dragged the Democrats after you.

I'll bet you think I am some kind of crazy liberal. Well, in any sane society, I would be a MODERATE.

Numbers aren’t falling in some areas.
Agreed. Interesting that now the debate has shifted as to what should be counted. For instance some fatality numbers have risen in part to back counting people that passed several weeks ago. Florida has taken the position of not going back and counting people that had "symptoms". Not sure of the correct approach, but I am very confident that we know more now than 9 weeks ago, but everyone is playing politics with this thing. I'm watching Georgia, as they opened first and thus far the dire predictions that claimed their death toll would rise to well over 100k due to early opening has started to materialize. We shall see.

The only way to know 'fatality' rates is by total testing of everybody, numbering those that have anti-bodies for CoV-19. Hold your breath until that ever happens....
(that would likely give you a fatality rate that's lower than seasonal flu)

Next, give me the number that have died after being treated with HCQ. o_O
(doctors using it are reporting success rates approaching 100%)

This will the last time I reply to anything you say. You are so stupid and so wrong about virtually everything you say there can be no honest debate with someone like that. You are either delusional or blind to the truth and not worth wasting my time to even read anything you post, let alone respond to it. So believe what you like, post what you want, just don't expect another response or reaction from me.

Don't worry ocala, I'll continue to B-slap little Lizzy for ya, it's a cheap and easy form of entertainment for me. :D

I think they should let people go who want to go. Dont allow anyone over 65 or if someone has a pre existing med condition.
People over 65 are Boomers who are still the big donors. If they allow "fans" at either BHG or DCS by the amount of $$$ given, there will be very few alums under the age of about 40.
I guess the upside of that would be few shouts of SIT DOWN heard.
I know, I know: okay, Boomer.

It sounds like everything you think you know about that era you read or saw on some PBS documentary.
The Dems USED to be the party of Frank Church, Sam Nunn, Lloyd Bentsen, and Bob Packwood. They were Defense Hawks. The Republicans were Rockefeller country club guys who continued to play by the Marquis of Queensbury rules long after the other side started to play dirty. Which they did after Reagan came in and kicked butt.
If you're telling me the Socialist Progressives who are in the House now are moving right I'm going to tell you to lay off the sauce.

Then don't bring your POS politics to the sports board, because, OMG, somebody might call you out for it.

Im in the under 40 club and i have 4 seats in the CC but i do notice an age difference between me and the others up there. I agree tho, old people give more. Maybe they can keep them secure maybe not but who knows. I still think they can get SOME revenue from others. Filling hakf the stadium is better than nothing. We need that rev from somewhere... We dont need our top donors dying tho..... That is for sure.

Maybe one day my brain will be as dead as yours? It appears I have a way to go...;)

"a way to go", did you mean "a ways to go"?

Did you hold a funeral when your brain died? Or did you just flush it down the toilet like a goldfish?

Either word is acceptable. Sister Brendan said so. Don’t mess with a Bishop Kenny kid.
Are you accusing me of animal cruelty, by the way?

How did we get here? I thought we had a moderator.

I'm all for arguments and insults, at last as far as sports are concerned. Please talk ceaselessly about how Georgia sucks or how Tennessee keeps hiring worse head coaches every other year without fail, but let's lay off the politics and religion. Nobody EVER wins those discussions/arguments. Not at work, not at home, nowhere. You can NEVER convince the illiterate and offensive person who thinks the opposite the way you do to see the way you view things. It just won't happen.

I can't disagree. Or at the very least take it to the Lounge, where politics rules the day.

So are the streets and beaches littered with dead bodies down there or do we need to wait 2 more weeks?

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The door has finally cracked open for the Gators to begin their migration back to campus amidst the global coronavirus pandemic that has shut down college athletics since mid-March.

In the wake of the SEC school presidents' decision to allow voluntary in-person athletics activities back on campuses across the league, the University Athletic Association announced Friday that Florida's student athletes will begin Physicals and CoV testing on May 26th. :p

Football will start to return to campus on June 8.

Volleyball & Soccer on June 15th.

Men's & Women's Basketball on June 29th.

In your usage, the correct terminology would be a ways to go. Had you added an adjective, such as long, then it would be different. A way to go is more of a British usage.

But to be fair, Sister Brendan may have been correct, back in 1871 when you took her class. BTW, you may not realize this, but in this century and the last Brendan is a boy's name.

This is what happens when there are no sports to watch...and I love politics.

Politics to me is the biggest "sheep following" ideal that was ever created. People are not open minded and are either right or left or socialists (idiots). They just repeat what they are told to repeat, dont think critically and then get so mad when u disagree.

Explain socialism and why those who think it is a compassionate form of government are idiots.

And do not confuse what China and North Korea have as socialism. They are repressive totalitarian governments.

LOL...I'm sure Sister Brendan...an Irish-born lass, BTW...would likely agree. But in the late 1960's, no one had the nerve to tell her she was incorrect - about anything.

Governments cant be compassionate, should i use Venezuala?

Hell think of the socialist policies that we have. Do they work? Does school work? No it sucks. Does welfare work? No it sucks. The problem with socialism is that people take advantage of socialism but countries that implement heavy socialist policies always do well for 5 or 10 yrs and then start struggling after that. Socialism also allows tyranny because you are relying on the govt more than yourself. Im not going to go in depth on what socialism, no one has time for that. China is a communist country. North Korea is actually more authoritarian than totalitarian, since KJU doesnt vote or have anything to do with laws or the legislature that happens. He is in charge of the military. I can see why someone would totalitarian but it is definitely more authoritarian.

Do you think universal education is important? If you think only those who can afford to pay for school should go to school, welcome to 1890. The reality is universal education has been a great boon to the world. Do you like having, I don't know, roads? Safe water to drink, safe food to eat? Safe cars to drive? Your bank account protected with deposit insurance?

This is the essence of Democratic Socialism. A capitalist economy and a democratic/republic government that controls capitalism through regulation and laws.

See, here's what's funny. We HAVE THIS NOW. This country HAS Democratic Socialism. The only piece we are missing is universal health care, and we would have that if the health insurance companies and big hospital corporations didn't have so many politicians in their pockets.

We didn't have this 100 years ago. Ask Goldmom, she can tell you about her childhood, when snake oil salesmen would sell their "wonder tonics" which were largely alcohol and camphor, when you never knew if the water you were drinking was fair or foul, when food you bought was adulterated with wood shavings. But this is what conservatives like Ocalafool want to bring back. Libertarianism? Bah. Worst possible direction for this country to go. He's just another fool who was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple. The way to a prosperous and stable nation is to take care of all of our citizens. If you don't believe that, read the article I have attached and LEARN SOMETHING.

Universal education is terrible. You rly think kids are learning in school? 15% who graduate still cant add and subtract single digit numbers. Education is TERRIBLE. I found this out when i went to G tech. K-12 is fvcking awful. It is catered to the dumbest students and does not help those who are succeeding. Private schools do tho. You think we need socialism to be safe? Seriously? No we dont. In my neighborhood the people who live there pay for the road, we dont need you poors helping us out. One size fits all hurts the people who do things the right the way, the people with jobs. One size fits all is garbage and always has been and always will be. yikes....

I'm not as laissez fair was some of my friends (I think some of the regulations at the turn of the 20th century were appropriate and needed) but I completely believe the effectiveness of the free market system working itself out.

FDR implemented so much sweeping socialist reform to help the economy and it still didn't end the Great Depression, World War II did.

Compassionate government gets you nothing but a bloated and intrusive government.

but then again, I'm an imperialist.

Welfare is a good thing...the issue is that (in a lot of cases) there is no real plan to get people off of it...or they can stay on it ongoing for years or their entire life. The US government doesn't really require people to be on a plan really. Some of the services are good and make sense but social welfare state is a total mess. IMO it's really that people who need it can't get it lot of the time and other people who don't ever pay into the system or do anything can stay on it forever.

Welfare reform was passed in 1996, limiting people to 60 months of welfare total over their lifetime. Florida is even more strict, limiting people to 48 months. To get it for longer you have to apply for hardship, and few get it because the requirements are very strict.

This is why we have the School Readiness program, to help low income working families afford daycare.

Might be the law but lawyers and government don't conform. 60 months for a lifetime is a joke. I worked in New Orleans for 2 years and you have generational welfare (money, food and housing)...like 3 deep. I have no issue with people getting help but at some point you're not helping them by giving a hand out...to that person, their kids and their grand kids. Let's not act like this isn't going on. That might be the standard but it goes way further than that. Who pays for that? Tax payers and I'm a generous person....I always give a bum a few bucks if I have it on me that moment. I'm a total sucker but they are people too....could be your kid.

On the other hand I get that some really great people don't have as much opportunity and need help. I'm the first person that will show up to support my community and people that I don't even know. I don't need a pat on the back for that...that's how I was raised. God will bless me when I need it too and that's what I'll do for others. That's how I see it.

Louisiana TANF (welfare) rate is 1/3 of 1 percent. Low income housing is a bit higher, around 2%. WIC (Women Infants and Children) food stamps is around 3%. SNAP food stamps for children is around 10%.

So, sorry, no, there isn't a "three deep" list of generational welfare recipients in Louisiana. The most I can give you is maybe some of the 2% of low income housing people have been there a while. But you know what low income housing people have to have in order to qualify? INCOME.

Here's the rub. You ever study economics? Well, there is such a thing as cost of production. If McDonald's wants to sell a burger, they have to set up a restaurant, buy all the fixin's, ship them to the store, and have then cooked and assembled for sale. So facilities, transportation, and food are all costs to the organization in order to sell that burger. Now, who pays for all those things. Why, McDonalds does! Does the government step in and pay for any of that? Nope. McDonalds is in it's own.

Oh, wait, we forgot one production cost. The people needed to cook and sell the burger. Now, does McDonalds pay for that unit of production? Nope, no entirely. Many McDonalds employees need rental assistance, food supplements to help feed their children, day care supplements to help pay for the care of their children, and health insurance. McDonalds only pays a portion of the costs required to have that unit of production. Without those supplements, that human capital would be unable to work at McDonalds and McDonalds, in order to have that human capital available, would have to pay the full cost.

So in essence, the recipient of that government assistance isn't the people for whom you have so much scorn, it's actually McDonalds.

You want to end government assistance? Then require companies to pay the full cost of their human capital without a government handout. This will also help to reduce the deficit, another thing you claim to care so much about.
