There are a lot of things that are relevant about the game in The Swamp on Saturday night. Last season’s game in the Birmingham Bowl isn’t one of them because the two teams have changed so much.

Neither is the only other time East Carolina came to Gainesville for a football game. Florida won 24-17 behind Neal Anderson’s 118 yards and a 47-yard halfback pass from Lorenzo Hampton to Bee Lang.

“Honestly, I don't remember a whole lot from that game,” said Wayne Peace, the quarterback for Florida against East Carolina.

Maybe this is why — Peace was known as an accurate quarterback who rarely threw interceptions. Against East Carolina, he threw four.

“Here’s what happened, all four of the throws were perfect passes that went through the receivers’ hands,” he said and you could hear him wink from Lakeland.

“It was just one of those games. I just didn’t throw it well and Neal bailed us out.”
